● Community Accountancy● Society ... the communities in which we all live ... have a huge

potential for success ... but no framework of performance metrics to help make the potential a reality and no metrics to avert disaster.

● Organizations have strong performance metrics. Corporate management information systems and financial reporting are strong ... Community Accountancy (CA) uses the principles of corporate accountancy for socio-economic progress reporting.

● CA has the community as the reporting unit rather than the organization being the reporting unit.

● In addition, CA has a deeper relevance to society because it embraces value as well as money.

● Much more funding is now available for malaria control

● Was under $100 million from international donors in 2002

● In 2007 it is estimated to have been around $1.5 billion

● The problem is that the use of the money has been ineffective

● This needs to change.

● MALARIA CONTROL ...

● WHAT ARE WE TRYING TO ACHIEVE?

– To reduce the socio economic burden of malaria in the society

– Reduce (eliminate) mortality due to malaria;

– Reduce (eliminate) morbidity due to malaria;

– Reduce the cost of treating malaria cases;

– Minimize the cost of controlling malaria;

– To the extent that expenditures are needed ... give them the greatest durable value.
