1. Welcome from the Chair of Governors
Dear Candidate,
The Governing Body is delighted that you have shown an interest in our advertisement for the position of
Headteacher at Alverthorpe St Paul’s School. I am proud to be the Chair of this caring and nurturing school
where the governors and staff are committed to providing the best possible education for our children, which is
built upon Christian values.
We have been fortunate to have had our retiring Headteacher at St Paul’s for the last 15 years, creating stability
in the school for pupils and staff.
In order to be effective learners, we believe children need to develop personal, spiritual, social and emotional
skills, such as self-esteem, independence, enthusiasm and resilience as well as a love of learning.
Every child matters to us and we aim to encourage children to achieve their best through a broad, balanced and
relevant curriculum. To this end, children are provided with many opportunities to participate in art, drama, music
and sports whilst at St Paul’s in addition to a wide range of academic subjects.
St Paul’s is a warm, welcoming, friendly school, where the attainment, progress and well-being of every child is at
the centre of everything we do. The positive attitude of our children, along with strong support from parents and
carers, creates an excellent climate for learning. The school is at the heart of the community and we have close
links with St Paul’s Church, Alverthorpe.
We are now seeking a Headteacher who can demonstrate proven successful leadership experience at a primary
level, with a deep understanding of effective strategies for raising attainment and achieving excellence. We
require a Headteacher who will encourage everyone to be the best that they can be in everything they do.
The new Headteacher will need to be committed to maintaining and extending links beyond the school, whilst
effectively continuing to develop our distinctive Christian character.
We have a strong, knowledgeable Governing Body, which is committed to supporting the school’s leadership.
You are welcome to visit our school in order to see the opportunity available for an innovative and dedicated
Headteacher to achieve excellence.
Please contact Lisa Ashton (School Business Manager) via the school office on 01924 290125 to arrange a visit.
We look forward to receiving your application.
On behalf of the Governing Body,
Yours sincerely
Pam Denton
Chair of Governors
2. Our School
Progress in mathematics
and writing is good. The
work in pupils’ extended
writing books is of a consist-
ently high standard, and
some is outstanding.
Pupils who are disabled
and those who have
special educational
needs make good pro-
gress in all subjects.
Their specific needs are
met well; both inside
the classroom and
through small-group or
one-to-one additional
support. Teaching is consistently
good and some is outstand-
ing. This ensures that all
groups of pupils, including
those who are more able,
achieve well and make good
progress over time.
Parents and pupils hold
positive views about the
standard of behaviour at
the school. One child
commented ‘it’s great!’
Around school, pupils
display exemplary
manners and behaviour.
They treat staff, visitors
and each other with
courtesy and respect.
Other adults make a
significant contribution to
the achievement of all
groups of pupils, particu-
larly those who are
eligible for the pupil pre-
mium additional funding,
are disabled or have
special educational needs.
In the best lessons, pupils
work exceptionally hard be-
cause they complete chal-
lenging, engaging tasks,
which are always closely
linked to their next steps in
learning.
Teachers use their strong
subject knowledge to plan
interesting lessons. They use
information about pupils’
progress to set work that is
mostly well-matched to the
needs of all individuals.
