The past nine weeks at Mount Anville have ended with a whirlwind of activity across a broad range of areas. It has been wonderful to see our students working together in the area of sports, music, debating, clubs and societies. The Transition Year production of “Annie” was a tour de force offering each student the opportunity to combine her own innate talents with the experience of working closely with others as a team. New friendships were forged and connections made and the results on stage dazzled audiences over the three nights. They are now actively engaged in the process of selecting their subjects for the Leaving Certificate Cycle aided by the Guidance Department and their specialist subject teachers. The Emmanuel Concert in the Helix was a wonderful experience for both participants and audience. Our students thoroughly benefited from the workshops and the experience of performing as part of a 59 school strong choir with over 2000 students involved. We all look forward to hearing their greatly expanding repertoire of liturgical music. This has been an outstanding season in the area of sport with large numbers of students participating in matches at all levels. Our congratulations go to all those who played on basketball, hockey and badminton teams and who participated in athletics events. The whole school community is especially proud of the large number of teams and individuals who brought home the trophies. The past nine weeks at Mount Anville have ended with a whirlwind of activity across a broad range of areas. It has been

wonderful to see our students working together in the area of sports, music, debating, clubs and societies.

The Transition Year production of “Annie” was a tour de force offering each student the opportunity to combine her own innate talents with the experience of working closely with others as a team. New friendships were forged and connections made and the results on stage dazzled audiences over the three nights. They are now actively engaged in the process of selecting their subjects

for the Leaving Certificate Cycle aided by the Guidance Department and their specialist subject teachers.

The Emmanuel Concert in the Helix was a wonderful experience for both participants and audience. Our students thoroughly benefited from the workshops and the experience of performing as part of a 59 school strong choir with over 2000 students

involved. We all look forward to hearing their greatly expanding repertoire of liturgical music.

This has been an outstanding season in the area of sport with large numbers of students participating in matches at all levels. Our

congratulations go to all those who played on basketball, hockey and badminton teams and who participated in athletics events.

The whole school community is especially proud of the large number of teams and individuals who brought home the trophies. It’s

Chaplain’s Reflections The “Faith Friends” programme is currently being delivered by some of our TY students to the 6th class of the Junior School in preparation for their Confirmation. This offers a great opportunity for the girls to bond in both faith and friendship, one that will continue into the next school year. when the 6th class join us as 1st years in our

Senior School Community.

The “Lourdes Interviews” were held on 14th February with 18 of our 5th year students. The following students will represent our school during the Dublin Diocesan Pilgrimage in September: Sophie Kemp, Lydia Ryan, Anna Fitzgerald, Emily Dunn, Ruby Mae Butler, Sarah Schaeken, Clodagh Keane

& Sophie Kinsella

Our Lenten Season began with the distribution of Ashes to all Schools on our campus on Wednesday, 1st March. Our 5Y Ministers assisted on the day and were a great help to our Montessori/Junior School, as well as the Senior

School, including staff.

Finally, as we continue to journey through this Season of Lent, we encourage everyone to take a few minutes during the school day (maybe attend the rosary on Mondays at 1.40pm?) to say a prayer for someone in their lives who needs a little extra love at this time. If I can ever be of help to anyone (students, parents, staff) please do not hesitate in contacting me. In the meantime let us continue to remember one another in our thoughts

and prayers.

Catholic Schools Week

Theme: Catholic Schools : Learning with

Pope Francis to care for our common home

As a Sacred Heart school, we celebrated Catholic Schools Week from January 30th - February 3rd. The theme of the week encouraged us as a school community to actively take responsibility for taking care of all aspects of God's creation. 2Y students organised a meaningful and reflective service to celebrate St. Brigid's and National Grandparents Day on February 1st. A tree was planted on the school grounds to begin the week and students in their classes analysed the true meaning of

Laudato Si. To mark the Feast of St. Blaise, a throat blessing ceremony took place in the school Chapel led by our 5Y

Ministers of The Eucharist.

Social Awareness

On 28 February, Chadwick 3 held a bake sale for Enable Ireland and raised €737. The cheque was presented to

Bridget Chesty from Enable Ireland when

they visited Mount Anville on 3 March.

Well done to the students in Duchesne 3 who held a bake sale on

20 January and raised €813 for Age Action as part of their CSPE Action

project.

Barat Lecture 2017

This year, the Barat Lecture was given by Adam Harris, founder of ASIAM (Autistic Spectrum Information Advice and Meeting Point). Adam was our first male guest speaker for the Barat Lecture. On this occasion, all students and staff attended the talk in the Sports Hall. Adam was diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome, a form of Autism, at the age of 5. His talk was truly inspirational and eye-opening. His presentation included interactive activities, a fabulous visual presentation, and an outstanding speech. I whole-heartedly believe in the work of Adam Harris and everyone in the ASIAM community. Adam was very inspiring and his talk was something that we will all

remember.

Mr. Rice , Goal Co-ordinator

On 27 January, Dargan 3 held a cake sale and raised €930 for Focus Ireland as part of their

CSPE Action project.

Our wonderful school choir under the direction of Ms Davis. took part in this annual celebration of liturgical music for schools on 8 March 2017. It was held in the Helix involving 59 schools, 2,300 students and 21 songs. Well done to our soloists Molly Conway C2, Emma

Kennedy D2 and Sophie Drumm D4.

IAMTA Junior Problem Solver Quiz

On 26 January, a group of 3Y & 4Y students (Isabelle McCarthy, Ellen Moore, Laura Buckley, Sarah Curtin, Jessica White, Eva Wang, Jahnavi Sinha, Martha O'Leary) competed in the Irish Junior Problem Solver Competition. The competition was held in Castleknock College with over 100 students participating. We had 2 teams competing in the competition; one of our teams came 2nd in a very tight 4 way tie to Oatland's

College after the 6 rounds.

1st Year Maths Competition 2017

On Wednesday, 1st March, all 1Y students participated in the first round of

the Irish Junior Maths Competition.

Congratulations to the following students who achieved the highest scores in their

class:

IAMTA Applied Maths Quiz

Congratulations to the following students who did so well at the quiz on 11 March. Senior Team: Kate Williams, Antonia Huang & Clodagh Quinn and Junior Team: Isabelle McCarthy, Ellen Moore, Eva Wang & Jahnavi Sinha. Mount Anville was the only all girls school to

make it into both finals.

Model European Union

5Y students Aisling Rooney, Claire Hughes and Rhea Dewan participated in Model European Debate in Dublin Castle on Friday March 10th. They debated with students from 27 other schools with each team representing an EU country, Mount Anville representing the United Kingdom. The students debated the need for more trade agreements within and outside the EU. It was a very lively debate in which Mount Anville did themselves proud.

English Debating

Very well done to our Junior Public Speaking team (Molly Conway, Aoife Dunne & Ciara McLaughlin) who were awarded the Mary Hayden shield on the 4 February at the UCD WGA Public Speaking Competition. Congratulations also to Isabelle Tierney and Ellen Finnegan who participated on the 10/11 March in the Hist MACE debating

competition in TCD.

Wesley Music Festival

On Saturday, 4 March, the Inter-schools Music Festival took place in Wesley Secondary School. The orchestra had been practising for weeks beforehand on Wednesday and Friday mornings at

7.45am with Mr. Barry in the Music Room.

We performed 'Ballade Pour Adeline' by Richard Clayderman. At 3pm, we had a quick run through of the piece. There were six other schools in our category (Secondary Level Chamber Orchestra) and at 3.30pm we were called on to make our way to the auditorium. We were led on stage by Julie, our leader. The huge hall was filled with people and everyone was definitely a bit nervous, however, the moment Antonia began playing the piano, it was as if we were back in the music room, like any other

rehearsal.

Later on, we found out we came second and we were thrilled! Everyone was really pleased with the adjudicators comments and found his advice very helpful. "The music was well prepared

and had some magic moments".

Groundlings News

Our next show is to 'Dublin by Lamplight' by Michael West in the Abbey Theatre on Wednesday, March 29 at 7.30pm. It promises to be a high energy fun show.

Science News

On 23 January, 5Y physics students attended the annual Tyndall lecture in DIT. The title of the lecture was 'The Life and Legacy of Robert Boyle' and the girls

really enjoyed the whole experience.

Transition Year

Annie

This year, TY’s put on a fantastic production of the musical ‘Annie’, the story of an orphan who wins the heart of a billionaire during the Great Depression of the 1930’s. We were all thrilled when we heard the title and anxious to begin. Soon, auditions had been held and the

parts had been assigned.

The whirlwind of scripts, costumes and rehearsals passed by in a flash, with Ms Minnock in command of the singers, Ms Whelehan and Ms Kavanagh giving guidance to the actors, Mr Rice leading his crew of superb artists and Ms McGrath whipping the dancers into shape. A special thank you to Agosto and

Brendan for all their work.

As the week of the musical loomed closer we put our noses to the grindstone. The weekend before, it seemed we would never be ready by show-time, and yet as the day for our dress rehearsal for the Junior School arrived, it ran like a well-

oiled machine.

By Tuesday night, we shook with anticipation, the Sophie Room a force of nervous energy. The soloists voices soared, the jokes were received with copious laughter, and the dancers danced

with all their might.

Then it was all over, the last note sang,

the last dance move executed, and the

last bow taken. As a learning and

bonding experience, ‘Annie’ will forever

be in our memories as one of the most

memorable experiences of school life.

It was a real team effort and it was a

huge success. Well done to all involved.

Student Leadership

Amber Flag

In January, The Amber Flag reps from 1st to 6th year attended the Student Leader’s Congress in Limerick University which raises awareness about mental health and help-seeking behaviours. Over 4,000 secondary school students attended from all over Ireland. The girls were particularly moved by the inspiring speakers who shared their stories of overcoming mental health difficulties. The Cycle Against Suicide community is determined to let people in every corner of the island of Ireland know that; it’s OK not to feel OK and it’s absolutely OK to

ask for help!

Guidance News

Morgan Stanley Investment Banking Internship

This year the criteria for acceptance onto the Morgan Stanley Investment banking Internship was higher than ever. Only 66% of candidates met the criteria and out of the 240 schools from around the world who sent in applications, only 7 schools had more than one student accepted onto the programme. Well done to Rachel McLaughlin D6 and Rachel Moore D6. This is an excellent result, one of the highest rates of any of the schools which apply to the programme! Well done to all who

applied!

MAPPA Speed Careers

Jessica Ramsey of the MAPPA office approached us early in September with the suggestion to run a “Speed Careers” event for 5th Years where past pupils would share their career journey in a fun and informal way. The event took place on the 2 March and 40 past pupils from a diverse range of career paths and industries came back to pass on their

experience and wisdom on selecting a career path and college course. On behalf of the 5th years we would like to thank Jessica and the many past pupils

for all their time and effort.

TY Subject Choice

TY students are in the middle of virtual 5th year. This programme allows students a taster of each subject available at Leaving Certificate. Combined with virtual 5th year, TYs are also meeting their Guidance Counsellor individually to

discuss their choices further.
