Head of Sport and Activities—Mr Dave Capra
On Tuesday evening we celebrated our Night of Excellence and in particular, for me, it was great to have the opportuni-
ty to acknowledge the young men in sport who have achieved at an outstanding level in their chosen sports. For those
who were at the NOE it was great to see the pride that the boys receiving the award had in themselves and in their
school and the genuine appreciation of their efforts by the audience. Congratulations to the following award recipients
Our running group continues to grow in numbers, enthusiasm and fitness! It was great to see some first time parents
and siblings join the group on Tuesday morning for our run through Rocks Riverside Park at Jindalee. Welcome espe-
cially to siblings Cooper Beachy-Head, Blake Densley and Lily Holt who joined us for the first time and were right in
the mix with their older brothers! Next week we will run to Fig Tree Pocket, leaving school at 6.45am and our final
run for the year will be Tuesday 1 December when we will once again conquer Cootha! Meet at JC Slaughters at
6.45am or at school at 6.30am.
Volleyball - Mr Tim Walker
This Thursday will see the culmination of the ATC Volleyball program for 2015. As a development sport at the College it has been great to see a huge level of enthusiasm for Volleyball this year we are looking forward to increasing volleyball offerings into the future. This weekend ATC 3 will play for third place in the Gap SHS, and the grudge rematch ATC 1 v ATC 2 will take place in a consolidation final for 7th and 8th place. I have been happy with the great improvement that our boys have shown and look for-ward to seeing them increasing their love and knowledge of the sport into the future.
Next year, we are currently looking at running volleyball in Terms 1, 2 & 4. Training sessions will continue on Tuesday afternoon and Brigidine and in terms 2 and 4 ATC will play in The Gap Competition again. In Term 1, our volleyballers will play week day matches against some of the schools as we did at the beginning of 2015. The ultimate goal for 2016 is to have Ambrose Treacy College make their volleyball debut on the big stage at the QLD Volleyball Schools Cup.
Unfortunately, all club cricket matches were washed out on Saturday. Some teams managed to make a start whilst others were not able to take the field at all. Hopefully, this Saturday will be fine and everyone can play some cricket.
Players and parents are reminded that Term 4 junior club cricket fixtures will continue right up to Saturday 5 De-cember 2015, despite the ATC school year concluding 27 November 2015. Please make sure you are available for Saturday 28 November 2015 and Saturday 5 December 2015 so that your team is not forced to play short or forfeit.
Starting times and venues for fixtures this Saturday, 21 November 2015, follow.

Parents are reminded to provide coaches, managers and Age Group Coordinators with as much notice as possible in regard to absences. Obviously, this is not possible with Saturday morning illness but players can be shifted be-tween teams to ensure maximum participation on match day if absences are known in advance. Players will gain far more by playing in a full team.
Cricket Coaching Clinics will be held on campus exclusively for ATC students 30 November-3 December 2015 inclu-sive (first week of school holidays) and 18-21 January 2016 inclusive (last week of school holidays). Please see the Flyer at the bottom of this newsletter for details. The December Clinic is designed to build on the skill base estab-lished in Term 4 whilst the January Clinic is designed to prepare players for the Term 1 school/club cricket season. Bookings are essential.
ATC has entered a team to play in the Impact Cricket Challenge 7 -11 December 2015 inclusive. The best cricketers from the College will take on intrastate, interstate and international teams in this locally based tournament. Specta-tors and supporters are very welcome with all of our matches played at BBC (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday) and SPLC (Wednesday). The first T20 match on Wednesday will be a cultural eye opener for our boys as they take on SEMESTA from Pahang, Malaysia.
As we are in the midst of competition season it is timely to visit some advice regarding nutrition and exercise.
Food eaten before exercise should provide carbohydrate. It should also be low in fat and moderate in fibre to make digestion easier and reduce the risk of gastrointestinal discomfort. For most exercise ses-sions, the emphasis on carbohydrate and fluid for the pre-event meal. However, it is also useful to contin-ue to consider other nutritional goals when choosing a pre-exercise meal. This may mean including foods that include protein, vitamins and minerals.
The following foods are suitable to eat 3-4 hours before exercise:
crumpets with jam or honey + flavoured milk
baked potato + cottage cheese filling + glass of milk
baked beans on toast
breakfast cereal with milk
bread roll with cheese/meat filling + banana
fruit salad with fruit-flavoured yoghurt

The following foods are suitable to eat if there is less than 1 hour before exercise*:
