2nd Reading: Ephesians 1: 17-23 Beyond the need to examine the physical or metaphysical truths of the mystery of the Ascension, there is a need to get to the purpose for such an event. Why did Jesus ascend? The Letter of St. Paul to the Ephesians tells us that Jesus ascended in order to take his place at God’s right hand. It is from this exalted place that Jesus reigns as head over His Body, the Church. Our faith reminds us that the whole Christ is recognized and celebrated. Jesus the head and we, the Body, are one. With this truth, we are comforted with Jesus’ own words that he would remain with us until the end of time. One with Christ, the Body of Christ enjoys the blessings of heaven. Paul prays that we will “know the great hope to which he has called [us], the wealth of his glorious heritage to be distributed among the members of the Church.” According to St. Paul, we are co-heirs with Christ to the Kingdom of heaven. the purpose for such an event. Why did Jesus ascend?
The Letter of St. Paul to the Ephesians tells us that Jesus ascended in order to take his place at God’s right hand.
It is from this exalted place that Jesus reigns as head over His Body, the Church. Our faith reminds us that the whole Christ is recognized and celebrated. Jesus the

Gospel: Mark 16: 15-20
The Gospel of Mark gives us another theological reason or purpose for this Feast of the Ascension.Jesus now expects the Body of Christ, beginning with the Apostles, to “Go out into the whole world and proclaim the good news to all creation.”
This should bring us back to the Genesis account where Adam and Eve were entrusted with dominion over all of creation. Having a share in the stewardship of the things of the world, the Church is now entrusted to bring the “Good News to All Creation,” that all is made whole in Christ.
After the Fall and original sin, creation was in chaos. With the new Adam, Jesus Christ, we celebrate a new creation. All who place their “belief in it and accept baptism will be saved.”
The Church, with Jesus as our head, is commissioned to proclaim this Good News.

As we prepare for the Feast of Pentecost, you are invited to offer the following prayer this week:
Spirit of wisdom and understanding, enlighten our minds to perceive the mysteries of the universe in relation to eternity. Spirit of right judgment and courage, guide us and make us firm in our baptismal decision to follow Jesus’ way of love. Spirit of knowledge and reverence, help us to see the lasting value of justice and mercy in our every day dealings with one another. May we respect life as we work to solve problems of family and nation, economy and ecology. Spirit of God, spark our faith, hope, and love into new action each day. Fill our lives with wonder and awe in your presence which penetrates all creation. Amen

1ra lectura: Hechos 1: 1-11
El escritor del Evangelio de Lucas también era autor
de los Hechos de los Apóstoles. En su segundo libro,
Lucas dice que Jesús se apareció a los discípulos en
su cuerpo resucitado durante 40 días. Después de sus
apariciones, ascendió al Padre. Lucas lo describe de
esta manera:
"fue elevando a la vista de ellos [discípulos], hasta
que una nube lo ocultó a sus ojos."
Hay algunos hoy que dudan de la autenticidad de esta
escena donde Jesús ascendió más allá de las nubes.
Sin embargo, por la misma razón por la que seguimos
proclamando nuestra creencia en la Resurrección del
cuerpo de nuestro Señor, nos adherimos a esta verdad
de que Jesús verdaderamente ascendió. Más allá del
testimonio escrito de la Iglesia primitiva, tenemos el
testimonio "de sangre" de los apóstoles y discípulos
mártires que vieron y creyeron. Ellos podrían
retractado de su testimonio para poder salvar sus
vidas. Pero, no lo hicieron.
Como personas de fe, creemos en las verdades

Más allá de la necesidad de examinar las verdades
físicas o metafísicas del misterio de la Ascensión, hay
una necesidad de llegar al propósito de tal evento.
¿Por qué ascendió Jesús?
La carta de San Pablo a los Efesios nos dice que Jesús
ascendió para tomar su lugar a la diestra de Dios.
Es desde este lugar exaltado que Jesús reina como
cabeza sobre Su Cuerpo, la Iglesia. Nuestra fe nos
recuerda que todo el Cristo es reconocido y celebrado.
Jesús la cabeza y nosotros, el Cuerpo, somos uno.
Con esta verdad, somos consolados con las propias
palabras de Jesús de que permanecería con nosotros
hasta el final del tiempo.
Uno con Cristo, el Cuerpo de Cristo disfruta de las
bendiciones del cielo. Pablo reza para que
"comprendan cuál es la esperanza que les da su
llamamiento, cuán gloriosa y rica es la herencia que

Evangelio: Marcos 16: 15-20
El Evangelio de Marcos nos da otra razón teológica o
propósito de esta Fiesta de la Ascensión. Jesús ahora
espera que el Cuerpo de Cristo, comenzando con los
Apóstoles, "Vayan por todo el mundo y prediquen el
Evangelio a toda creatura."
Esto debería traernos de vuelta a la cuenta Génesis
donde Adán y Eva estaban confiados con el dominio
sobre toda creación. Tener una participación en la
mayordomía de las cosas del mundo, la Iglesia ahora
está encargada de llevar las "Buenas Noticias para toda
la creación", que todo está hecho completo en Cristo.

Thánh Sử Luca cũng là tác giả của Sách Tông Đồ Công Vụ. Trong cuốn thứ hai, Thánh Luca đã kể lại Đức Giêsu đã hiện ra với các môn đệ trong thân xác Phục Sinh đến 40 ngày. Sau khi hiện ra với các môn đệ, Người lên trời về với Chúa Cha. Thánh Luca đã kể như thế này:
“Người được cất lên ngay trước mắt các ông, và có đám mây quyện lấy Người, khiến các ông không còn thấy Người nữa.”
Ngày nay có nhiều người vẫn còn nghi ngờ bối cảnh chân thật này khi Đức Giêsu cất khỏi đám mây. Tuy nhiên vì cùng lý lẽ như thế chúng ta tiếp tục duy trì tuyên xưng đức tin thân xác Phục Sinh của Chúa chúng ta, để chúng ta gắn bó vào sự thật là Đức Giêsu đã lên trời. Sự thật là đằng sau việc viết lại chứng từ vào lúc Giáo Hội sơ khai, chúng ta có những nhân chứng bằng máu của các Tông Đồ tử đạo để các môn đệ đã thấy và đã tin. Họ có thể từ chối không làm nhân chứng để bảo vệ mạng sống của họ. Nhưng họ đã không làm như thế.
Là người tín hữu, chúng ta tin vào hình dung từ đúng đắn về những liên hệ xảy ra trong Thánh Kinh Kitô Giáo (không phải là dụ ngôn hay sáo ngữ).

Thánh Phaolô đã cầu nguyện rằng “Xin Người soi lòng mở trí cho anh em thấy rõ, đâu là niềm hy vọng anh em đã nhận được, nhờ ơn Người kêu gọi, đâu là gia nghiệp vinh quang phong phú anh em được chia sẻ cùng dân thánh” (Ep 1: 18) Theo Thánh Phaolô, chúng ta được thừa tự với Đức Kitô trong Thiên Quốc.

Tin Mừng của Thánh Mác-Cô đã cho chúng ta một lý do thần học khác hay ý nghĩa của việc mừng Lễ Thăng Thiên. Chúa Giêsu mong chờ Thân thể của Đức Kitô, bắt đầu từ các Tông Đồ, sẽ “Ra đi vào trong thế gian và rao giảng Tin Mừng cho các loài thọ tạo.”
