4 Insight

A Brief History of QOUThe Quranic Open University, under

the guidance and direction of its Chairman and Founder El-Sheikh Syed Mubarik Aii Shah Jilani, has influenced hundreds of Muslims to exodus the crime, drug and squalor of infested urban centers and ghettos. These refuges have on their own and by their own' means established communities where they live and raise theirfamiiies in heaithy environments. They have established schools and have done great work creating a wholesome environment with their Christian neighbors. Many of these QOU members have, developed their own small businesses aiding the local economy and tax base.

For over ten years the QOU has been • in the forefront of those organizations educating America's 6 mflOon plus Muslims through the distribution of audio cassettes, VCR tapes, literature, publications and the organizing of numerous retreats and seminars.

Hence the QOU has come in contact with and aided thousands of Muslims since its inception. The QOU has extended legal advice and counseling and has protected the religious and civil rights of many Muslims as . well.’

£ Sortie, nine years ago, it was the QOU thaf pointed out the responsibility that all t Muslims had in aiding their Afghan brothers against the invading Soviet Communist In similar fashion when the unarmed peaceful people of Kashmir were brutalized by the vicious aggressions of the Indian security forces in January 1990, QOU heard their cries and came immediately to their aid. Upon the request of one of the Kashmiri Muftis, El- Sheikh Jilani called a tele-conference of the Council of Deputies to outline steps to be taken to aid and relieve the tyranny of the vicious Indian Government •

On March 11,1990, QOU sent a letter of appeal to the President of the United States of America, requesting they use their influence to halt the aggression of the Indian security forces, and invoke the United Nations plebesciteto decide the Kashmir question. On March 30, 1990, a response was received from the White House attache on

American Miislim

Indian Affairs which covered up and made excuses for the Kashmir carnage.

Then on May 24,1990, after the brutal assassination of Maulvi Mohammad Farooq, in his home, by the Hindu security forces, the QOU sent another letter to the President of the United States of America, telling him that we can no longer sit back and watch the genocide of our Muslim brethren in Kashmir and that we would set up relief camps and support them with medicine, food and any thing that would assist them in the quest for freedom from oppression. This letter was hand delivered to the Office of the President of the United States of America

In order to awaken the world community to the plight of these innocent victims of the greed, and avarice of the Indian regime, on June 11,1990, the QOU organized a mass rally in Washington, DC. Hundreds of Muslims and Christian organizations from across the USA gathered to highlight the plight of Kashmir. The demonstration was carried internationally by..worid media

During the summer of 1990, the Indian government increased its crimes against the people of Kashmir and after an emotional appeal from the Kashmir Freedom Forum to El Sheikh Jilani, the QUO called an emergency meeting, arid developed intense and immediate procedures to assist the Kashmiri people. On August 8,1990, a letter was sent to the Secretary General of the United Nations, requesting the world body to call the Indian government to honor its pledge to use plebiscites to settle Kashmir. Copies of this was also sent-to President George Bush and/or his staff.

The QOU has always done its utmost to draw the attention Of world authorities, the United States and the United Nations in particulars the plight of Muslims throughout the world. Their responses have been shajlow and have lacked any substantial action. Nevertheless, the QOU has not lost sight of its purpose and will continue to use its resources to aid Muslims in every possible way regardless of need or geographic location.

Reprinted from “Aiccla Bulletin*, March 1994.EXPOSURE ON Abu Nashaad J shortly before “By Way of Deception"

‘ISRAELI’ INTELLIGENCEIts Ju ly and , uajittle late to be talk

ing about Victor Ostrovsky and Qaire Hoy’s book “ BY WAY OF DECEPTION; TH E MAKING AND UNMAKING OF A MOSSAD O FFICER.” Ostrovosky will not easily forget a visit by two men from the Mossad, Israel feared secret service, standing at his doorstep in Ottawa, days before his book was released last September.

It was evident the two men were not out for social v is it They were Oren Riff, commander o f the Mossad school, and A haron Sherf, commander of Ostrovsky’s training while he was a junior field officer in the Mossad between 1984 and 1986. Offering money, they asked, pleaded rather, with Ostrovsky to halt publication of the book. H e refused. The book had already gone to press.

1 “By Way o f Deception” is an exposure of the Mossad’s structure, size, personnel and operations. It contains names of agent- runneis, agents, station chiefs, codenames, etc, of some o f the service’s 1,200 members.

Mark H asneris identified as the head o the Mossad and Ostrovsky narrates an intriguing tale o f how the Mossad had recruited Yassir Arafat’s personal body guard in the early 1980’s. The bodyguard

embarrassment for the Israeli government. Some Israelis felt the book was worse thari the fallout over th e Lillenhammer affair, when Mossad agents were caught after killing a Moroccan waiter in Norway in 1973. The waiter was mistaken fora PLO terro rist

Isser Harel, first head of the Mossad, compared the damage Ostrovsky did to that of Mordechai Vanunu, a disillusioned Israeli technician who revealed Israel’s nuclear capabilities to the London Times in October 1986. After he leaked the story, Vanunu was lured into the Mossad’s hand by a woman named “Cindy” abducted, drugged and returned to Israel even before the Times could publish all his revelations. H e is now serving a life sentence in solitary confinement there.

There has been several attempts by Is raeli authorities to discredit the book. It began with a stupid attempt to hair its distribution. In September a team of lawyers from the New York Firm of Skadden Arps, Meagher and Form, representing the Israeli government, arrived at one a.m. at the Fifth Avenue home ofNew York State Supreme Court Judge Michael J. Dontzin. They demanded an injuction to prevent the distribution of” By Way a of Decep lion “ The lawyers claimed that Ostrovsky had violated an agreement he had signed with the Israeli government not to disclose confidential information about the Mossad. The injuction was granted. It was the first time that a foreign country had obtained a prior restraint against the publication of a book in the United States. St. Martin’s press, the American publishers, look the case before a four-judge panel of the New York. Appellate Division immediately, and Dontzin’s unprecedented action was thrown to the dogs.

In a later interview Ostrovsky laughed at Israel’s attempt to halt the book argu- ingthathehadacontractwith them. “ But the Mossad signed a contract with the Danes saying they would not operate in Denmark-... They signed a contract with the Americans saying they won’t work in States and they’re working there.... They promised the Sinhalese that they would only train them, and they trained the Tamils. (The Tamils and the Sinhalese are ethnic groups battling each other in Sri Lanka). They promised each other that they won’t make a nuclear bomb and they’re working with South Africa on it. So what are they talking about? I signed a con tract? Please!.”

Many people found the Israeli attempt to stop the publication of the book unbe

Commenting on the bombing of the Iraqi Osirak nuclear reactor by Israel in 1981, Ostrovsky ties it in with an Israeli attempt to discredit yet another Arab leader. He said they did it with Gamal Abdul Nasser of Egypt, then it was Abdul Kareem Qassim of Iraq, then it was Hafiz Assad of Syria, then it was Muammar Qaddafi of Libya.

If you look at the Israeli press-, you will see that if there is a report that there are some negotiations, or one of the hostages might be released, or there arc talks with the Shi’ites, a meeting in Beirut- and you will see that everytime that happens, the next day the Israeli air force has bombed a Shi’ites base in Lebanon.

In October when some negotiations between the French and Saddam reported in Israeli newspapers, the next day Israel was giving out free gas masks to its citizens. Arabs had to buy theirs of course. This was an attem pt to tell the western countries that if they appease Saddam it will be to the detriment of the Jewish, people. In other words, it was a deliberate attem pt to kill all negotiations between the French and Iraq.

Ostrovsky said that the Mossad first tried to buy him off, when that did not work they tried to gag him. Then they started a smear campaign against him by changing facts and dales. First they said that he did not work with the Mossad for two years but only six months then it was reduced to five months. “ Soon they’re going to say they don’t know me— that’s not the Victor we’re talking about.” That’s what has already happened.

Ostrovsky believes that the next step would be to let the long hand of Israel reach into the deep freeze of Canada and haul him back to Israel so that they can show people how they deal with betrayal
