First in number and importance

In Egypt there were many gods

Isa. 45:5 “I am the Lord, and there is no other”

Monotheism = belief in one God

1 Cor. 8:6 “yet for us there is one God, the Father, of whom are all things, ”

Not to make an idol - to represent a god

God is Spirit - Jn. 4:24 - Images are lifeless

Rom. 1:21-25 - worshipped the creature not the creator

1 Cor. 10:14 “Therefore, my beloved, flee from idolatry.”

1 John 5:21 “Little children, keep yourselves from idols.”

Ex.20:7God’s name is important to Him - Psalms 8:1

Vain = to use lightly or irreverently - worthless, empty

Ps. 111:9 “Holy and reverend is his name” = respect

Swearing is wrong - James 5:12 “do not swear”

Profanity is condemned - Eph. 4:29

Get a Job - work

“A greedy desire to have more” “Seeking to get what is another’s in an unlawful way”

The covetous person is selfish and is never satisfied:“He that loveth silver shall not be satisfied with silver; nor he that loveth abundance with increase: this is also vanity.” Ecl. 5:10

Overcome by learning contentmentHeb. 13:5 “Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have. For He Himself has said, "I will never leave you nor forsake you.”
