* Ring topology – fatal topology HDL has several different products which not only have HDL-BUS, but also Ethernet port (RJ45), e.g., 1IP, Z-Audio, 48DMX, SMS module. 1). Generally, the Ethernet port can be used for configuring and controlling, and the HDL-BUS port can only be used for controlling. 2). When wiring these products, need to avoid ring topology.

More about topology

* recommend to connect devices in Daisy Chain - hand in hand

* In small projects you can use star network topology, or you can partially apply star network in small scale.

Resistance of Cable Per 100m With one pair connected together: 5Ω

* Please confirm the resistivity of Cable , the typical resistivity of CAT5 cable in China is about 5 Ohms

* Different brand cables have different resistivity, the less the better.

Page 8: HDL-Bus International Technical Training Mr. Zeng 2010-11-9 Last revision: Aug 28, 2013.

* Electrical standard: RS485 Half duplex communication , has two signal lines which are Data+ and Data-.

* Maximum cable length within a subnet: 1.2Km Note: need to consider the voltage drop at the end of Cable , power supply,network topology, which is hand in hand or star.

* Max device totality within a subnet: 64 Take the sufficiency of power supply and efficiency of communication into consideration, we recommend to connect no more than 64 devices on one subnet even though our driver can drive 255 devices on one subnet.

* HDL-bus baud rate for twisted pair: 9600bps 11 bit serial data: 1 start bit,8 bit data, 1 parity bit, 1 stop bit.

Page 9: HDL-Bus International Technical Training Mr. Zeng 2010-11-9 Last revision: Aug 28, 2013.

* DC power supply on Bus : 24VDC Calculate all power consumptions of devices on bus ,according to the voltage drop of cable, choose proper power supply and cable length.

* acceptable max. voltage drop on bus Magnetic latching relay requires voltage higher than 15VDC , other devices require voltage higher than 8VDC, the standard voltage is 24VDC, the max. voltage can be up to 30VDC.

* Safety For safety, the protection current of power supply must lower than the current which is when the bus has short circuit. We need to calculate the resistance on the bus ,calculate the total power consumption on bus , then select the suitable power supply.

Page 10: HDL-Bus International Technical Training Mr. Zeng 2010-11-9 Last revision: Aug 28, 2013.

* HDL-BUS Net/IP Network UDP protocol Use UDP (group broadcast, default port 6000) protocol to pack and unpack the data stream that flows between HDL-BUS and Ethernet, and supports A, B and C class IP.

*Sending data stream in twisted pair Busy checking, sending serial data ,receiving data stream, checking if the received data is destroyed. In system, there is no master or slave device, it is a distributed system, any devices in bus can send command by needs.

*Conflict detect mechanism - CSMA/CDCSMA/CD: Carrier Sense Multiple Access/Conflict DetectThis mechanism guarantees that no command would lose because of two devices trying to send commands at the same time.

Page 11: HDL-Bus International Technical Training Mr. Zeng 2010-11-9 Last revision: Aug 28, 2013.

* HDL-Bus IP interface IP interface used for fast intelligent data exchange (router) between the Subnet , big network , integrate with other system, managing and monitoring the system , program for the devices on the bus .

* Regulation of Net/IP router 1. All messages come from RS485 bus will be transferred to Net/IP network unconditionally. 2. The messages come from Net/IP network will be transferred to RS485 bus if the destination subnet ID of the message matches the subnet ID of the gateway (typically SB-DN-1IP) or the destination ID of the message is a broadcast subnet ID (255), This mechanism can improve the efficiency of communication

Page 12: HDL-Bus International Technical Training Mr. Zeng 2010-11-9 Last revision: Aug 28, 2013.

* Protocol of HDL-Bus in detail1) Subnet ID:0-254(255 for broadcast), DeviceID:0-254 (255 for broadcast), total devices on bus: 255 x 255 = 65025.

2) Max. data size in a data package: 80 bytes, CRC: CRC-16.

3) Types of communication: point to point and broadcast. e.g., use a key to turn on a relay/light (point to point), the relay shares its changed status out (broadcast).

Command format is showed as below:

* Leading edge dimmer - use TRIAC for dimming1. Keep the ambient temperature under 45 .℃

2. High capacity dimmer will make a little noise when dimming, so make sure the place fits for installing the dimmer.

3. Make sure the loads have no short circuit otherwise it will be burnt.

4. Suitable for incandescent lamp, Induction transformer, some electronic transformer, motor.

5. Can not be used to dim energy-saving lamp, non-dimmable load, some of electronic transformer.

6. Minimum load: 30W. (No such requirement if the used load is HDL’s LED light.)

Output Waveform

* Trailing edge dimmer - use MOSFET for dimming

1. Keep the ambient temperature under 45 .℃

2. Suitable for incandescent lamp, all of electronic transformers.

3. Good for energy-saving lamp, non-dimmable load for ON/OFF control.

4. Not good for inductive load , may burn the dimmer.

Output Waveform

* 0-10V dimmer with power ON/OFF control

1. Although 0-10VDC ballast has 0-10VDC interface for dimming, it still needs a relay for power ON/OFF control.

2. The capacity of relay for each channel is 2000W.

3. The 0-10VDC interface of the dimmer is designed to sink current from ballast ,can not source current to the ballast. (new 0-10V dimmer does not have this restriction.)

4. Generally, each ballast outputs less than 1mA DC current to the dimmer, up to 30 ballasts can be connected to one channel of the dimmer. (each channel of the dimmer can bear 100mA.)

* DMX LED Driver

1.Protocol: DMX512/1990.

2. Constant voltage drive for RGB LED.

3. Constant Current drive for RGB LED (planning to do )

Page 22: HDL-Bus International Technical Training Mr. Zeng 2010-11-9 Last revision: Aug 28, 2013.

* motion sensor

1. The sensitivity of motion sensor depends on the temperature, higher temperature leads to the lower sensitivity, recommend to keep the ambient temperature lower than 35 . ℃

2. Indoor use. The wind may lead to false alarm when installed outdoor.

3. Avoid to install it near the air outlet which will throw cool air or hot air at the sensor directly.

Page 23: HDL-Bus International Technical Training Mr. Zeng 2010-11-9 Last revision: Aug 28, 2013.

* IR learner

1. When learning the code, point the remote to the window of IR learner, also better to keep them close.

Page 24: HDL-Bus International Technical Training Mr. Zeng 2010-11-9 Last revision: Aug 28, 2013.

* IR code of air conditioner

1.One IR code of AC contains all info in it, including mode, fan velocity, swing or not, target temperature. This has to be took into consideration when learning the code and making a remark for it.

Page 25: HDL-Bus International Technical Training Mr. Zeng 2010-11-9 Last revision: Aug 28, 2013.

* Z-Audio

1.Need +24VDC and -24VDC power supply.

2. The Ethernet port can be used for configuring and controlling, but the HDL-BUS port can only be used for controlling.
