On the slide before, you
saw the different toy
advertisements which I
picked, in the next few
slides I will explain to
you why some elements
of each of the adverts
might influence how I
would design my poster
and the banner I plan to
put on the website.

The colours of the cube adverts vary a lot. There are some which are black, orange, purple, etc, however I think that in almost every one of the pop album covers, there is always a rubik’s cube, so at least 3 colours of the rubik’s cube would be shown. The background colour is usually black or white, this contrasts with the colours of the rubik’s cube, making the cube stand out. For example, on the advert with all the colours of the cubes spreading out, the background colour is black, making the glow more eye-catching

Text
In general, the text on each of the poster fill a very small area of the page. Even though the fonts are quite different in each of the adverts, I think that the fonts match the style of the purpose which is quite playful and colourful (colours of the rubik’s cube). In the poster on the top right corner, there are more words because it is promoting an event. There is an information box at the bottom with bubbles of catch phrases on the side. I think I would have the same format for my poster but I would make my poster more colourful because this poster looks quite boring.

All of the adverts contain at least one cube. Some adverts have people solving the cubes and I think it is quite a good idea but most of the time, it will be too complicated in a poster informing people and a banner should be kept simple. Sometimes, there are different images on the sides of the rubik’s cubes, I might consider that idea. I quite like the idea of putting the cube in the middle of a bunch of technological gadgets. This contrast in colour and the idea draws more attention.

layout
I think most of the adverts had the cube in the middle to draw the attention of the audience and it makes it clear that it has a purpose of promoting cubes. The cube also takes up a lot of space in the poster, so it is the first thing the audience would see when they look at the piece of paper. There are some exceptions, for example there is a figure where it is made out of cubes. This is different but the repetition strengthens the idea of the cube. Overall, I think one big cube is more effective.

I quite like the typography idea of the “dayan cube” where words were formed by putting cubes together. I think I would improve that idea by using different colours as well, perhaps the Island School colours (red and blue) saying “Interhouse Cube Challenge”.
I loved the idea of having rays coming out of the cube because it really draws attention, so I might try out some of those effects of photoshop.
For the image, I prefer a close up shot of a cube because I think this would make the cube the central theme of the poster. I think the colour of the cube image should be darker (not too light) but there can be a thin outline of bright colours or a glow surrounding it.
