What is BTEC Public Services?

BTEC Public Services is a vocational qualification designed to give a work-focused alternative to A Levels. Students learn by

completing projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands.

It introduces students to the employment area that they are interested in and is equivalent to one A level.

We aim to make your studies as interesting and as enjoyable as possible. Teachers use a wide range of different teaching methods including teacher lead sessions, case studies and class/group discussions.

In addition, students will have the opportunity to experience a wide range of public service related visits and a program of guest speakers.

This course is assessed through a range of activities such as projects, presentations, teamwork and practical activities.

How does BTEC compare to A-Levels?

Not all Universities accept BTEC qualifications as part of their offers. Please check if you have a clear destination plan.

Are BTEC Nationals accepted by Universities?

Yes! BTEC Nationals have been awarded UCAS tariff points that are equivalent to similar Level 3

qualifications.

(However it is always advisable to check individual universities first.)

What is the highest qualification grade available for BTEC National learners?

The highest qualification grade that learners can achieve for BTEC Nationals is a Distinction*

which in terms of UCAS points is equivalent to an A* at A Level.

The lowest grade is a Pass which is equivalent to an E grade at A Level.

How do BTEC Nationals compare in size with A Levels?

The Level 3 BTEC Public Services has the same number of guided learning hours (GLH) as an
