Dear Medford,
On behalf of the City of Medford, I want to thank all of you who voted in the Moda Assist/Portland Trail Blazers Program. As a result of winning an online vote between Portland, Bend and Medford, an all-inclusive play structure will be installed at Fichtner-Mainwaring Park. The program sponsors will provide over $17,000 for this project, which will be matched through various efforts. We anticipate the new play structure will be ready for action in early 2017. Thanks again for helping make this happen!
The department received approval of the Prescott Park master and trail plans from the Jackson County Board of Commissioners. As a result, trail construction will begin at this beautiful 1,740-acre park in late spring and continue through the fall. Phase 1 construction anticipates adding an additional 9 plus miles of trails and parking for better access.
As you check out this edition of our Program and Services Guide, there are ample opportunities for recreation and enrichment during the summer months. We also offer a number of FREE programs and activities which families can enjoy:
• Rogue Credit Union Movies in the Park • State Farm Summer Concert Series• Family Fun Nights • Pear Blossom Park Programs & Concerts sponsored by Lithia Auto• Park-n-Play: Coming to a park near you. • Splash Pads: Hawthorne, Lewis, Fichtner- Mainwaring, Lone Pine and Oregon Hills Parks
Finally, we invite all of you to enjoy the Bear Creek Greenway this summer. Between our partnerships with Oregon Stewardship, Oregon Department of Transportation, and Rogue Valley Council of Governments, several areas along this great public recreation asset have been cleared of brush and debris. Get out and enjoy the beauty of the trail and creek.

Brought to you by:
Includes info on every Medford City Park with a handy guide of all the services at each location including:
PRESCOTT PARKLocation: Roxy Ann Rd. Acquired by the City of Medford in 1930-31 and named for constable George J. Prescott, who was killed in the line of duty in 1937, the 1,700-acre park is the second-largest municipal park in the State of Oregon. The primary geographical feature is Roxy Ann Peak, protruding 3,571 feet above sea level – about 2,000 feet above the valley floor. With approximately two miles of trails (and more planned) providing incredible vistas, Prescott Park is a popular spot for hikers and mountain bikers. In 2011, the City of Medford built a ropes challenge course near the Roxy Ann picnic area.
RUHL PARKLocation: Modoc Ave. & Hillcrest Rd. Shaded by several trees originally planted in January 1971, Ruhl Park is a popular location for picnics and family gatherings due to its distinctive gazebo, handy open space and recently refurbished playground. The park is named for Robert and Mabel Ruhl, the latter of whom donated the property in 1970.
VOGEL PLAZALocation: Corner of E. Main St. & Central Ave. Located at the corner of Main and Central in the heart of downtown, the 75-by-100-foot plaza features a popular fountain and the much-photographed “Chess Man” sculpture. A plaque memorializing Virginia Vogel, Medford’s first female city councilor, was dedicated in 1982. The park was originally developed in 1970, months after one of the worst fires in Medford history destroyed the building located on the site.
LIBERTY PARKLocation: 625 N. Bartlett St. Opened in 2014, this quarter-acre park on the corner of Maple and Bartlett streets features a play structure, a picnic shelter, benches, a walking path, a restroom and an open grassy area flanked by neat-and-tidy landscaping.
LONE PINE PARKLocation: 3158 Lone Pine Rd. The City of Medford maintains this 3.56-acre park with sweeping westerly views on the east side of Lone Pine Elementary School. The park’s defining elements, a multi-nozzle water play area and a picnic area, opened in 2007.
HOWARD PARKLocation: 286 Mace Rd. The property surrounding Howard Elementary School is the largest neighborhood park in the northwest Medford and the location of a well-liked walking path and a large grassy area. Originally developed in 1978, the park is slated to be remodeled and refurbished in conjunction with a 2015-16 master planning process.
LEWIS PARKLocation: 130 Lewis Ave. Completed in 2010, the newest park in southwest Medford covers 8.5 acres along Lewis Avenue and Meadows Lane. The park contains a water spray park, basketball courts and a sizeable playground. A large bioswale along Elk Creek serves as a natural filter for storm water runoff.
CEDAR LINKS PARKLocation: 3101 Cedar Links Dr. The City purchased 5.5 acres of the former Cedar Link Golf Course in 2014 to help address a shortage of parkland in a densely populated area of east Medford. The acreage obtained included all or portions of three holes of the old golf course and the majority of the clubhouse parking lot.

What We’re Known For
Parks and Recreation
U.S. CELLULAR COMMUNITY PARK
Location: 300 Lowry Lane
Constructed in four phases between 2007 and 2015,
USCCP is the largest developed municipal park in southern
Oregon. The 132-acre state-of-the-art sports park contains
15 ballfields, including Harry & David Field, the home of
the Medford Rogues summer collegiate wood-bat league
franchise. USCCP is the largest municipal installation of
FieldTurf in the United States with 1.5 million square-feet
of synthetic grass on 14 fields. Between 2008 and 2015,
over 30,000 games were played at USCCP. The park is
bisected by Bear Creek and the Bear Creek Greenway. The
Coyote Trails Nature Center manages 17 acres of riparian
areas in the heart of the park.
SANTO COMMUNITY CENTER
Location: 701 N. Columbus Ave.
The headquarters of the Medford Parks and Recreation
Department. The three-building campus is the hub for
dozens of enrichment programs and services coordinated
by the City of Medford. The main building contains 6,400
square feet of rentable areas for classes, meetings, birthday
parties and social events. The versatile 12,000-square-
foot gymnasium is the most programmed indoor sports
facility in the City. The campus also includes the Discovery
Preschool. Two large murals adorn the buildings.
CARNEGIE BUILDING
Location: 413 W. Main St.
Built in 1912 as a result of a $20,000 grant from legendary
philanthropist Andrew Carnegie, the building was
Medford’s public library until 2004. Expanded in 1952 and
placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980,
the building underwent a $1.4 million renovation in 2010
and now serves as a popular location for meetings and
social events.
VETERAN’S PARK
Location: S. Pacific Hwy & Stewart Ave.
Originally known as “Maple Grove Park,” the three-acre
site along South Pacific Highway and Stewart Avenue
once contained 106 maple trees planted around 1920 in
honor of soldiers killed during World War I, and a handful
of the trees remain. Renamed “Veteran’s Park” in 1985, the
park now features memorials and tributes to those who
served in the Armed Forces.
FICHTNER-MAINWARING PARK
Location: Stewart Ave. & Holly St.
One of Medford’s most popular parks due to a wide array
of features and amenities, including eight tennis courts,
eight pickleball courts, four full-size soccer fields, two
basketball courts, a spray park, a large play structure and
a popular gazebo. Exercise enthusiasts frequently utilize
the .78-mile pathway around the 31-acre park that was
once a pear orchard. The park is named for a pair of fallen
police officers.
HAWTHORNE PARK
Location: 501 E. Main St.
Developed in 1950, the 15-acre urban park underwent a
$1.95 million facelift in 2015. Improvements include the
largest children’s playground and splash pad in Medford’s
park system, two separate fenced-in dog parks, a futsal
court, a basketball court and LED-lit pathways. The City’s
Arts Commission partnered with the Cow Creek Umpqua
Indian tribe and the Oregon Department of Transportation
to install the Bear Creek Wildlife Calendar Walk murals
on six Interstate-5 viaduct pillars along the greenway
adjacent to the park.
PEAR BLOSSOM PARK
Location: N. Bartlett, along 4th–6th Streets
Completed in 2013 as a component of “The Commons”
public-private partnership between the City of Medford,
its urban renewal agency and Lithia Motors, Pear Blossom
consists of two distinctly different urban-style park blocks.
The southern park block showcases a play structure,
water feature and pear-and-leaf landscape designs, and
the northern park block features a performance stage and
a large lawn. Pear Blossom Park hosts the City’s annual
Winter Lights Festival.
RAILROAD PARK
Location: Table Rock Rd. & Berrydale Ave.
Operated seasonally the second and fourth Sundays,
April through October, the park features passenger-
pulling miniature locomotives and train cars – faithful
reproductions of full-size trains. Railroad Park also contains
full-size train displays (including Medco 4, a gorgeous
steam locomotive built in 1925), a large indoor HO-scale
layout, and railroad-theme garden displays.
DONAHUE-FROHNMAYER PARK
Location: 1678 Spring St.
The largest developed park on Medford’s east side features
a covered pavilion that is frequently rented for private
gatherings. The 12.5-acre park contains a half-mile-long
walking path and a new playground (installed in 2015). A
unique feature is the WinterSpring remembrance wall and
fountain, a gathering place to remember loved ones.
UNION PARK
Location: Union Ave. & Plum St.
Developed in the 1950s and renovated in 2014, the west-
side jewel is the first Medford park to feature energy-
efficient LED-lit pathways and a state-of-the-art, vandal-
resistant steel play structure. Union Park is also home of
Medford’s first community garden containing three raised
ADA-accessible garden beds.
OREGON HILLS PARK
Location: 6001 E. McAndrews Rd.
Opened in 2013, this new-era park has a “natural” focus,
both in design and features. Key attractions include a 530-
foot meandering Earth History Walk, an old-fashioned
water hand pump-fed trickleway and a large sand play
area. The park was designed to accommodate therapeutic
recreation needs, including a handicap-accessible tree
house overlooking the interior crown of a mature oak tree.
JACKSON AQUATIC CENTER
Location: 815 Summit Ave.
Located on the corner of Clark St. and Summit Ave.
adjacent to Jackson Elementary School and Fagone Field,
Medford’s only municipal swimming pool receives over
20,000 visits annually between Memorial Day and Labor
Day. Built in 1960, approximately 1,500 individual swim
lessons are administered by aquatics staff at the pool each
year.
IOOF/EASTWOOD CEMETERY
Location: 1581 Siskiyou Blvd.
The Independent Order of Odd Fellows cemetery dates
back to 1890, when the IOOF purchased the property
from the Barneburgs, a pioneer family. The oldest section
of the mausoleum was constructed in 1925. The 20-acre
Victorian era-style cemetery was placed on the National
Register of Historic Places in 1989. Over 5,100 individuals
are interred at the cemetery, including Harry and David
Rosenberg, the founders of the world-famous Medford-
based company bearing their first names. The property
contains over a mile of roads, paths and trails.
BEAR CREEK GREENWAY
Location: Entrance points throughout Medford
Seven of the Greenway’s 20 miles traverse through the
Medford city limits. The pathway runs through Central
Point, Medford, Phoenix, Talent and Ashland. Connect to
the trail at four city parks: Railroad, Hawthorne, Bear Creek
and U.S. Cellular. For more information, visit jacksoncounty.
org/bearcreekgreenway
HOLMES PARK
Location: 185 S. Modoc Ave.
This popular east-side park is beloved by many Medfordites
for its mature trees, shaded turf, quarter-mile paved pathway,
large pavilion and modern play structure. The basketball,
tennis and pickleball courts were resurfaced in 2016.

Rogue Valley BMX is an all-volunteer operated non-profit organization that maintains a nationally sanctioned USA BMX track within Bear Creek Park along Highland Drive.
Medford’s facility has hosted BMX racing events for over 20 years. Since the addition of the sport to the Olympic games, BMX racing has become a respected discipline all over the world. Last season, several local athletes were invited to train at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, Calif., and colleges now recruit for teams across the country. It is a growing sport and NO one sits the bench!
Above all, BMX is fun for the entire family. Choose your level of participation … Get involved on the local level and come when you want, check out other tracks in the state in pursuit of a state title, or travel the country and race the national circuit. Locally, we host many events throughout the season including Race for Life, Bob Warnicke Scholarship Race, Olympic Day, a state qualifier, and more.
The track operates from March to November, weather depending. Weekly race events are held Wednesday nights with sign-ups/practice from 5-6pm, and on Sunday afternoons with sign-ups/practice from 1-2pm, racing to follow.
For current track info, find us on Facebook or visit Roguevalleybmx.com.
RIDING The track is open to the public during non-sanctioned events, free of charge, when weather permits. Bike helmets required.
RACING All ages and abilities welcomed. All you need to get started is a bike, helmet, long sleeves, and pants.
A USABMX membership is required to race at any sanctioned event and is available trackside. One-day free trials are available; only $30 for a 30-day trial, or $60 for a yearly membership. To learn more about memberships check out USABMX.com.
