The Children and Young Persons Act 1998 & Your Local Authority County Council Bye Laws 1999 Makes sure you are

SAFE - aims to prevent accidents & injury to school pupils

Makes sure EDUCATION comes first

Gives spare time for leisure & rest

AT 15 years old

You may now work longer hours You have a greater choice of jobs

But remember - The law still applies until you reach the end of year 11

How many hours can I work at 15? 2 Hours on a school day - either between

7am & 8am, or the close of school and 7pm 8 hours on a Saturday or weekday during

school holidays (5 hours if still 14yrs) 2 hours on a Sunday max 12hrs in a term time week

What times may I work?

You may NOT work BEFORE 7am You may NOT work AFTER 7pm

What jobs can I do?

You may do any light work providing it is not on the following prohibited list.

You must have an EMPLOYMENT CARD for every job that you have.

You may not do any of the following until the end of year 11

Sell or deliver alcohol Deliver milk Work in a kitchen Collect money or sell

door to door Use chemicals Collect & Sort Refuse

Telephone Sales Climbing ladders etc Work in cinema, night

club or similar Attendant or assistant

in a fairground or amusement arcade

Work on market stalls

You may not

Work in Butchers Shops preparing Meat

Undertake the personal care of residents in an old peoples home or similar

Deliver fuel Undertake any work

which involves the use of Machinery

Undertake any Factory work

You must have an Employment Card It is a legal requirement to have a work permit

- Employment Card

You must show this to the Child Employment Officer, or a Police Officer if asked.

What if I don’t have an Employment Card? Pick up a form from the school, ask your

Employer, or ring (Your Local Authority Contact Details)

You will not be covered by your Employers Insurance without an Employment Card

Your Employer can be fined £1000

STAY SAFE

What ever job you decide to do please make sure you stay SAFE.

Ask you employer if you are unsure how to do something.

Make sure you get your EMPLOYMENT CARD

Newspaper Rounds

Wear a Helmet BE SEEN - Lights, Bright Clothes etc Keep your Bike roadworthy Let someone know where you are and when

you will be back Don’t carry a load which is too heavy for you
