CHLOE MARCIE

TOTEThe second addition to the wish list is the Chloe Marcie Tote. The Marcie Tote is one of those handbags that gets better every season. This pastel blue truly is beautiful and perfect for the Summer. It’s large enough to hold a small makeup bag, smartphone, a couple of bikinis, a pair of flat sandals, a scarf and a book or iPad. It’s like a mini weekender bag.

PINKPADWedge SandalThe Wedge Sandal is one of the hottest looks for the Summer. It’s the perfect way to look stylish and still be comfortable. Why we like the wedge...it’s comfortable and gives height without discomfort. Who can wear the wedge? Anyone, because the heels vary from low to super high. Where can you wear the wedge? Any where. Designers have given us a lot of options for this look...denim, patent leather, exotic skins, canvas, rope, covered heels, stacked heels. Some are embellished with crystals and other trims while some are very understated. The Wedge Sandal is the new Summer classic and we love it.

Editor’s Letter Welcome to Summer. When I set out to put this issue together, the premise was to feature some beautiful swimwear, a few exotic vacation locations, a little summer beauty and skin care and some great accessories. Wow, did I over shoot the rainbow. The Summer issue is way more than I expected. What started out as a small issue, became a mega issue. While searching for beautiful swim and beach wear, I discovered some designers that completely blew me away...Silvian Imberg, Adriana Degreas, Camilla Franks, SHAN and Jet. And the favorites...Chloe, Lanvin, Michael Kors, Miu Miu, Eres, YSL and Norma Kamali. Every great swim or beach wear look needs accessories and we have some hot pieces to make you look good. Another new find is Aperlai shoes a line known to true fashionistas. This issue we continue with our Mr Porter series and this one includes beach etiquette, the holdall and summer accessories. There’s a review of the new iPad and a romantic Date Night story. I love the interview with Linda Rodin, she is so cool. I really admire this woman. She’s proof age isn’t a number but a state of mind. One of the reasons I started the magazine was to share new or unknown brands. I love everything in this issue. In my mind, I’ve been to every vacation spot and worn or tried every thing. Researching the vacation locations has given birth to a new travel feature. There are so many gorgeous hotels and resorts that I just have to share them with you. Thank you to everyone that helped make this issue possible. I won’t promise the next issue won’t be as large, because I can’t. I’ll try getting a filter on my enthusiasm but then I’ll miss something. Or even worse, you’ll miss something. Here’s hoping you have a relaxing, wonderful Summer.

Watching... JewelryDesigner Nina LorenCaroline “Nina” Cortes crafts elegant, distinctive and functional jewelry that reflects her love of art and fashion. She and her business partner Iliana Ruiz had one goal in mind when they started their collection in 2005, create jewelry for women of all ages who enjoy wearing unique, expertly crafted and gorgeous pieces that distinguishes them and reflects their taste and refinement. Nina is inspired by her knowledge, understanding and adoration of art and fashion. The base for her collection comes from her talent to manipulate and shape wire and other metals into interesting shapes and pairing them with semi-precious stones and natural minerals. The ultimate objective of this designer is to create beautiful jewelry.

LINDARODIN

Linda you are so cool and a fabulous role model.  I am in awe of women who don't see age, but only vision and dreams.   Thank you so much.  I do see age though, but I accept it try and embrace it.  And at the same time I must admit, I mourn my youth every now and then.  But I am trying my best to age as gracefully as I can….

How does it feel to be considered a beauty icon?

It makes me laugh!!!  64 years old and just getting started .

You have had a rich background in the fashion industry.  How do you feel your past experiences prepared you for this new venture? I think they prepared me for everything .  I have met wonderful people, been privy to the best of the best in the beauty and fashion world, and learned many ups and downs at the same time.  Beauty and fashion are forever changing, so it's important to understand their place in one's larger and fuller world.  I love beauty and fashion, but I also know where it belongs in my life.  there is so much more...

Haute Pink | 31

Page 32: Haute Pink July/August 2012

What advice do you have for women wanting to start a business?   I don't think I can answer that question too well.  I was making something for myself, not ever planning to have a business.  so it all went very organically, with no real business model or plan…the best and only advice I can give is:  Totally believe in your product, whatever it may be.  If you are completely behind it, and love it yourself, other people will too.

I am still in awe of the fact that a face oil, doesn't leave a greasy film, how is that possible? I think it is because of the proportions of the oils and the magical way they work together.

Will there be a lipstick soon? Or other products in the works?   We have a wonderful lip balm, neutral in color, and a delicious perfume which is very exciting.

I love your hair.  What is your beauty regimen?   It is very very simple. I cleanse my face in the evening, and put on RODIN Olio Lusso Face Oil after that.  Same with my nightly bath,  RODIN Olio Lusso Body Oil all over. in the morning, I moisten my face with warm water and then use my face oil before I put on my sunscreen.  I don't wear any makeup except lipstick, so I'm quick.    at night and all day long, I use RODIN CREMA as I need it for my hands.  I wash my hair, with shimmer lights shampoo and conditioner. Towel it dry, and add 2-3 drops of RODIN by RECINE.  At this point in my life, most of the things I use are my own creations  and I spray myself liberally with RODIN perfume.

Page 33: Haute Pink July/August 2012

Describe your personal style?  Who are your favorite designers? I think of myself as a simple dresser, clean lines, but I usually add something a bit quirky.  Black Rag and Bone capri jeans, simple cardigan, and Miu Miu black glitter flats .   I love jeans, wear them all the time.  from Levi's to Uniqulo, Rag and Bone etc.  I love Prada, Miu Miu, A Detacher and J Crew.  I don't buy anything for the label: I buy what I love and suits me. What three words describe you?

Hmmmmm...maybe you need to ask someone else…..

Your ideal or dream vacation would be…on a lonely beautiful beach, shell hunting.

I ask everyone I interview the same question, what shade of pink best describes you and why?

Bright pink neon fuchsia-ish .  Like my lip color, because I think I am a bit saucy and bright.

Page 34: Haute Pink July/August 2012

Couture Lingerie

Page 35: Haute Pink July/August 2012

Beautiful lingerie is something a woman needs. Men may squawk at how many pairs of shoes we have, but they never complain about how much lingerie we have. It is the one item in a woman’s wardrobe men reap a little benefit from as well. Wearing fine lingerie can instantly lift a woman’s self-esteem. There’s something about a finely crafted delicate lace undergarment grazing your skin that takes you from demure to sexy.

Carine Gilson is a Lingerie Couturier. She creates the most breathtaking pieces. Lingerie is supposed to be hidden or reserved for your more private and intimate moments. However, Carine’s creations deserve to be seen. Each collection surpasses the previous one. Her kimonos are sought after by chic brides around the world. They are perfect on their own for the boudoir or as a mini with a great pair of heels, a cuff and diamond studs.

Carine’s attention to detail is evident in her craftsmanship. She uses the finest Lyon silks and Chantilly laces and all of her pieces are handcrafted by skilled seamstresses in her hometown of Brussels. Her bold color choices and shapes are what make her pieces seem more like ready-to-wear than lounge wear.

The collection includes kimonos, chemise, tape pants and camisoles, soft cup and sculpted bras, waist cinchers, pajamas, corsets, thongs, boy briefs, slips and high-waisted panties. Her collection is romantic and sexy without being too revealing. It’s the better than being sexy. It’s being feminine.

Camilla does...

Page 59: Haute Pink July/August 2012

Resortwear...beachwear...and now ready-to-wear. This Australian Design Icon has accomplished so much in such a short period of time. Eight is the number of new beginnings and it seems Camilla Franks is taking that literally. Known to fashionistas and celebrities as a resort and beachwear designer, Camilla is expanding into ready-to-wear. Giving her clients another opportunity to wear her fabulous, bright silks and jerseys year round. The collections are filled with something for everyone...caftans, dresses, skirts, leggings, rompers, minis...the list goes on. How did all of this happen? While researching ideas for a theatrical project, she let her creative juices take over and voila! A fashion empire was born. Now the designer has reached fashion icon status with a list of celebrity clients including Kate Hudson, Beyonce, Lily Allen, Gwen Stefani and Oprah Winfrey. It was Oprah wearing one of her designs on her “Down Under” series that catapulted the designer in to the public eye. Overnight everything sold out. Her Spring Summer Labyrinth Collection is getting much earned media approval. The looks on the following pages are from that collection. Camilla believes every woman is beautiful no matter what her size, age, color or origin. This type of thinking is evident in her designs. Beautiful designs come from a beautiful spirit and when worn with a beautiful confident attitude you can’t help but be beautiful. Haute Pink | 59

Chatting with...

Did you always want to own your own business?Yes, when I was a little girl it was something I dreamed of.

Why jewelry? I love accessories growing up and decided to provide affordable jewelry

What advice would you give to someone contemplating starting their own business? Go for it, believe in yourself, get books and anything that has information about the business they want to start.

Do you have plans for expansion?    Yes, eventually I'll have chain stores.

Name one item you want to add to your wardrobe for Spring? And Summer?Shoes, and bags! That's all I'm adding and maybe some maxi dresses!

What shade of pink best describes you and why? Cosmic pink because cosmic is often related to greatness and limitless boundaries.  I believe in taking the limits off and dreaming big!

And give a brief description of your business. It's an accessory boutique filled with unique items ranging from modern to classic.

WHAT IS YOUR DESIRE...

in a swimsuitluxury swimwear designer

Silvian Imberg answers that question

86 | Haute Pink

Page 87: Haute Pink July/August 2012
Page 88: Haute Pink July/August 2012

“The collection projected us into an exclusive place. Sleek lines, racy looks, attractive silhouettes, symmetric prints, constructivist motifs, attitude , vivacious colors. What counts is the radiant flow of energy exuded by the collection, while allowing the personality of the lady wearing it to shine through and enhance her inner beauty.”

“I think it is my love for women, and a deep understanding of the feminine body, what curves to enhance and which to blur, that allows me to achieve the most elegant and flattering silhouettes, with precision and perspicacity.”

“The question I constantly have in the back of my mind is: What would each woman desire to have in her exotic holiday wardrobe?”

How can a man better answer this question especially when it comes to women’s swimwear? Easy, men see what we don’t see...how amazing we are. Men see our curves and the sensuality that we fail to see every time we put a swimsuit on. Silvian Imberg is a master at constructing swimwear for the female form.

The swimwear Silvian Imberg designs is elegant and ultra feminine. Each piece is designed like a couture garment using traditional tailoring with futuristic fabric combined to create a bold feminine look. This couture beach and leisure wear is screaming for stilettos, lipstick and chunky jewelry.

Watching... Accessory Designer Smita Paul

indigo handloom

Smita Paul, founder of Indigo Handloom and a former journalist, discovered the world of handloom while on assignment in India.  Indigo Handloom was created to celebrate the centuries-old weaving art of handloom as well as the weavers themselves, most of whom struggle to support themselves and their families due to worsening economic and political conditions.  Ever evolving, Indigo Handloom scarves and apparel are handmade...thread-by-thread - with no external energy source and therefore, no carbon footprint.

Their mission is to create ethical and artisanal accessories and apparel for the luxury marketplace, while employing hundreds of artisans in rural villages in India. Ms. Paul continues to research the textile traditions of India and continues to create modern fabrics and scarves while keeping alive the ancient tradition of handloom.

High Waisted A funny thing happened along the way to swimsuit season...the retro, high-waisted, two-piece returned. What is a high-waisted two-piece? Apart from a mouthful, it’s the new sexy swimsuit. Not to be confused with it’s sister the bikini, although some call it a bikini, it isn’t. It’s a modern kind of elegance that has been popping up on the beaches and resorts all over the world. Who wears the high-waisted two-piece? Anyone who wants to. Long reserved as the suit the heavy or chunky woman wore to make herself feel good. The high-waisted two-piece is taking center stage as the new sexy swimsuit. These suits are adorned with details just like the bikini. We’ve seen crystals, ruching, color blocking, cutouts, belts, you name it. I think what makes these high-

waisted suits so fresh, are the modern tops. Some come with bandeus, halters, low-cut triangle bras, push-up bras, underwire, all adding to the modern sophistication of these suits. The bikini has long been considered the sexy swim suit reserved for young skinny women. Not any more, the high-waisted suit is making it’s presence known. The high-waisted two-piece is considered glamorous. It’s also called seductive. I think it gets it’s seductive label from the air of mystery associated with the wearer. The high-waisted suit leaves so much to the imagination. When you put on one of these suits you envision yourself lying poolside with flawless Summer makeup, slicked back hair, a little jewelry, a glass of bubbly and a handsome pool boy at your beck and call.

If you’re a true fan of fashion the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Elsa Schiaparelli and Miuccia Prada exhibit is something you have to see. The exhibition, is housed in the Metropolitan Museum’s first-floor special exhibition galleries. It features approximately 100 designs and 40 accessories by Elsa Schiaparelli and by Miuccia Prada. Pieces for the exhibit have been collected and honed from The Costume Institute’s collection and the Prada Archive, as well as other institutions and private collections.  The highlight of the exhibit are the eight short videos created by Baz Luhrmann, where Prada talks with Schiaparelli, who is played by actress Judy Davis, are played from the entry gallery through the seven themed sections of the exhibition and provide the thread that connects the objects.  In the films, “Schiap” and Prada are seated at a dining table in dialogue that has been created using paraphrased excerpts from Schiaparelli’s autobiography, Shocking Life, and Prada’s filmed remarks.  Visitors get the feeling they’re eavesdropping on a conversation between two colleagues trading stories about work. The exhibit is broken down in to seven sections: “Waist Up/Waist Down” looks at Schiaparelli’s use of decorative detailing as a response to restaurant dressing in the heyday of 1930s café society, while showing Prada’s below-the-waist focus as a symbolic expression of modernity and femininity. “Neck Up/Knees Down” showcases Schiaparelli’s hats and Prada’s footwear.  “Ugly Chic” reveals both women’s ideas of beauty and glamour by playing with good and bad taste through color, prints, and textiles.“Hard Chic” explores the influence of uniforms and menswear to promote a minimal aesthetic that is intended to both deny and enhance femininity.  “Naïf Chic” focuses on Schiaparelli and Prada’s adoption of a girlish sensibility to subvert expectations of age-appropriate dressing.  “Classical Body” explores the designers’ engagement with antiquity through the gaze of the late-18th and early-19th centuries.  “Exotic Body” touches on the influence of Eastern cultures through fabrics such as l amé , and s i lhoue t t e s such as s a r i s and sarongs.  “Surreal Body,” illustrates how both women affect contemporary images of the female body through Surrealistic practices such as displacement, scale, and blurring the boundaries between reality and illusion, natural and artificial.

Bree wrapped a towel around her middle and grabbed another one for her hair. After wrapping it like a turban, she stepped into the walk-in closet in the bedroom and searched for a perfect dress for a Christmas church service. She decided on an evergreen dress with sequins on the top. While on the hanger it looked a bit cheesy because of the open back of the dress, when she put it on, the dress complimented her figure and made her eyes look brighter. She'd just cover the back with a shawl for modesty's sake.

Donny had never seen her in the emerald green dress, so she decided to wear it as a gift to him. He acted like he admired her in whatever she wore. This outfit just happened to look better than most.

She selected a pair of strappy dark green Marc Jacobs sandals she'd purchased on clearance at Neiman Marcus last weekend.

Bree smiled at her reflection. Donny would like her ensemble. As she dried and styled her hair, she thought about what she'd gotten him for a Christmas present. It wasn't much, but it was personal enough he should like it. She'd found a leather jacket and imagined how incredible it would look on Donny with a pair of jeans. Hopefully he'd agree and appreciate her taste in clothes. As far as she knew, he didn't have a leather coat like the one she'd bought him. If he had one, he never wore it. She hoped this wasn't the case.

Once her face looked touched up to her satisfaction, she checked the time. Donny would be arriving any minute. Thankfully her hair obeyed her attempt to style it and her skin hadn't broken out. She looked her very best, which felt good.

Maybe today she would surprise Donny and give him a real kiss. Then based on his response, she'd know if there was something wrong.

Page 157: Haute Pink July/August 2012

If he avoided kissing her like the last time they were together, and if it was because he was seeing someone else, he would say something to her, right? If not, there was no reason for him to push her away. Not after pretend dating for three months. Not if she kissed him like she really meant it. Wouldn't he be surprised?

Maybe she'd tease him and tell him a kiss was all he was getting for Christmas. Not that she felt obligated to get him a gift. He had everything a man could want anyway. Everything but a willing woman to share his bed, which was something she would never compromise on.

The doorbell rang. Bree rubbed her sweaty palms on the side of her dress and reached for the door. Donny stood outside looking handsome as always. In his hands he carried a vase with a dozen red roses in it. She'd never gotten roses from a man before. The idea saddened her, but excited her at the same time. What did the gesture mean? Were his feelings for her real after all?

"Merry Christmas, Bree."

She smiled and received the offered flowers. "Thank you, Donny. Merry Christmas to you, too. Now if you'll wait just a minute, I'll put these on the table and get you your gift."

He grinned. "Sounds good. We've got time before we have to leave."

She glanced at the clock. They had about a half an hour before they needed to head over to the church. Since it was Christmas, they would have trouble getting a decent parking spot if they waited too long, so she didn't want to drag things out. She wanted to kiss him and then give him his gift before they left.

Donny closed the door and stepped into the living room. He sat on the couch and gestured for her to join him. As she approached, she noted he held a box in his hand.

Her heart fluttered at the soft look in his eyes. Usually when they spent time together, they were in a public place. Due to his busy schedule and her shifts at work, they hadn't had much time alone.

Anxiety pummeled her as she eased onto the couch beside him. All of the courage she'd mustered to give him a Christmas kiss had dissipated. How could she kiss him this morning

and not cry? Better to avoid his lips than be hurt, right?

One look at his tender smile convinced her she was worried for nothing. If he didn't want to be with her, he'd be somewhere else right now. She had to believe this.

Swallowing hard, she glanced at the box in Donny's hand. The eager look on his face told her even if she thought it was the gaudiest piece of jewelry she'd ever seen, for his sake she would smile and act like she loved it. She didn't want to hurt his ego on Christmas.

He moved the box toward her and whispered, "Open it."

She took the box from him, almost afraid to peek inside. The look of expectation on his face told her it would be cruel to make him wait. She cracked it open and peered inside. The most beautiful diamond cross necklace she had ever seen lay embedded on a red velvet cushion.

The ends of the cross were rubies where the nails would have pierced Jesus's hands.

Tears filled her eyes and she covered her mouth. "It's so beautiful."

"Not as beautiful as you are," he whispered. "Can I help you put it on?"

She nodded and lifted her hair so he could clip the chain without it getting caught in back.

He leaned close as he put the necklace on her. She could smell his minty breath and felt its warmth on her cheek. Now would be a good time to give him a real kiss, right? Her heart pounded as she slowly turned her head.

Donny lowered his arms once the necklace had been secured. She dropped her hair and studied him, noting how he hadn't moved away from her like he often did.

Maybe it was the fact they were dressed up and ready to go out that had her nervous.

She'd been this close to Donny a number of times, but had never felt scared before. Not like she did right now.

His gaze dropped to her lips, but he made no attempt to close the space between them.

Page 158: Haute Pink July/August 2012

When he did kiss her, it was often a brief peck when he picked her up or brought her home. He'd kept his hands to himself and treated her with complete respect.

She admired his restraint, but for once she wished he couldn't control himself. It would make things so much easier for her right now. What would he think if she kissed him first?

Rather than waiting until she lost her nerve, she plunged ahead and sa id , "Merry Christmas."

He smiled, until she inched closer.

Her lips captured his with as much emotion as she could offer. Her fingers tangled in the hair at the nape of his neck and she pulled him closer. The scent of his aftershave made her dizzy with desire. Whatever scent he wore on his skin made him even more irresistible.

With a soft moan in his throat, Donny tugged her closer. He parted his lips like he wanted to taste her and ran his tongue over her lips. She relaxed in his arms while his tongue slipped inside and explored. What a heady, sensual feeling they made as their mouths moved over each other in a way that made her pulse pound. She could get lost in the sensation of their lips caressing and his tongue gliding over hers in an intimate dance.

To get even closer, she scooted until she sat on his lap. She couldn't miss his arousal, which made her passion spark to life until she groaned.

Parts of her body heated that she never knew kissing could ignite. She felt herself contemplating things they could do right now. Things she'd told herself they would not do. So why had she changed her mind? His kisses were like a drug, and she was hooked.

The way he kissed her made her rules seem silly. Kissing shouldn't feel this good, but it did. In fact, kissing Donny was sinfully delicious. Their contact was so sensual and alluring; she couldn't help but want to experience more. This was the reason she needed to stay away from him. She never should have opened the door through sensual kissing. Now it was too late.

He shifted on the couch as she eased away from him. He captured her gaze and said, "Wow. Was that my Christmas gift?"

She licked her lips and moved so she sat up straight and in the process she'd inched a bit further from him. She knew if she didn't create some space between them soon they would get into serious trouble.

"Yeah, it was."

Donny ruffled his bangs and blew out a tense breath. "What took you so long?"

She blinked. "What do you mean?"

He shrugged. "I've been waiting for months for you to feel comfortable enough to kiss me, and wow, when you finally did, it was enough to set me on fire."

A shy grin tugged at her lips. "I'm sorry. I don't mean to tease you."

"Don't be sorry. It was amazing. Maybe because I wasn't expecting it."

"Maybe." She grinned. "Or maybe our chemistry is just right."

His eyes grew serious as he studied her a moment. "I'm not sure what to do about my feelings for you. They keep growing. You said you didn't want to be more than friends. Have you changed your mind? 'Cause I am so ready for more if you are."

Was she ready for more? Her body sure was. Her mind told her it was too risky. At the same time, her heart told her it would be worth it. No man had ever made her feel this way.

Donny was special, but he was also famous. She didn't know if she could deal with his public persona. "Are you still planning to retire?"

"Absolutely. I'd do anything for you." He stood and pulled her up with him. Before he spoke another word, he pressed her against him. "I've waited so long for this," he whispered into her hair.

He had? She pressed closer still, overwhelmed by the sense that something powerful had happened between them. Something she wanted to nurture, and not fight. She whispered into his hair, "I think I have, too."

They stood holding each other for a long time. She could inhale his masculine scent forever and be perfectly content. Oh, how her heart ached. Did Donny truly have feelings for her? After all the women he’d dated, was he really

Page 159: Haute Pink July/August 2012

ready to settle down?

As she thought about what it could mean for them, she felt his hands sliding lower until they were over her hips and clutching her butt. The indescribable sensation pulsing through her was delicious. She wanted nothing more than to let him continue rubbing her bottom, but she didn't dare.

"Donny, don't." She slipped out of his arms and glanced away from him, not sure what to say next. She didn't want to seem like a prude, but she had to draw the line somewhere.

She heard a chuckle in his voice when he said, "I've fantasized about touching you."

Flashing him an annoyed frown, she took one look into his smiling eyes and laughed instead. How could she be mad at him? He looked so sweet and mischievous as he studied her with a huge grin on his face. "You mad at me?"

A chuckle burst from her as she decided to tease him back. She slid into his arms and did the same thing. Boy did he have some nice buns. "Mad at me?"

A wicked grin tugged at his mouth and he growled with a playful smirk. "Don't get me started, woman. You don't know what you're messing with here."

She s ighed, making sure i t sounded exaggerated. "Fine. I'll back off."

"No. Don't." He cupped her face and took her mouth once again.

This time she melted into his arms. Their playful teasing was getting her very worked up.

She couldn't help noticing how his body responded as well. They needed to stop before they skipped church altogether, which would be the worst thing they could do.

"We need to go," she whispered after breaking their kiss.

He gazed into her eyes a moment, and the desire she saw made her knees weaken. They definitely needed to go. The sooner the better.

"You're right. We need to head out. It's getting way too hot in here." With a sly smile, she headed for the door. Before opening it, she grabbed the box she'd kept in the closet by the

front door and handed it to him. "Merry Christmas, Donny."His eyes shone with excitement like a young boy rather than the man he was. He tore open the box and grinned. "A new coat. I love it!"

Her shoulders relaxed at the genuine happiness on his face. He liked it. She helped him put it on and played with his collar as she straightened it. "I knew this would look great on you."

"Thanks, Bree. This is the nicest thing anyone has ever given me."

She didn't understand his comment. It made no sense. Women gave him gifts all the time.

"I'm sure you've gotten nicer things than a mere coat before."

"Not with such sincerity and affection. I'm telling you, being around you makes me want to be a better man."

"I'm glad." She glanced into his eyes and noticed a slight sheen to them. Rather than point out the emotion he displayed, she kissed him one last time.

"So far, this has been the best Christmas I've had in years."

He smiled and tweaked her chin. "Then we've got that in common."

Iconic, dramatic, theatrical, artistic, sexy, stylish, powerful, elegant and feminine. A few of the words used to describe the shoes of French shoe designer Christian Louboutin.

The Design Museum of London is presenting the first UK retrospective of his work. Twenty years pushing the boundaries of high fashion shoe design and a signature red sole have made Christian Louboutin a household name.

The exhibit is just as dramatic as the shoes Louboutin has created the past two decades. The exhibit gives the visitor a look at some of the things that inspire Louboutin’s creativity: shoes inspired by performance, cabaret and showgirls; fantasy and fairy tale; film, landscape and travel. The main focus of the exhibit explores Louboutin’s design process from sketch to construction. The exhibit also includes a look at Louboutin’s unique store design which he closely oversees.

01Come prepared. While packing light makes for easy traveling, don’t head to the beach ill-equipped. Remember sun coverings, sunglasses, sandals and appropriate reading

material. And don’t forget that women can tell a lot about a man by what he’s reading. (Some suggestions: War and Peace to impress the scholarly lady, The Marriage Plot to

attract a romantic lady, and Fifty Shades of Gray to catch the eye of a kinky minx.)

02Think classic. When in doubt, find something simple, sleek and carefree. I’ve worn the same grey swim trunks for years, and nothing looks better with them than basic white T-

shirt and black Havaianas flip=flops.

03Don’t be bashful. The trick with anything in life is looking comfortable, even if you’re not. Good posture, self-awareness and a big smile will highlight the perfect beach bod

-- even if you don’t have it yet.

04Relax: you’re on the beach, so have some fun! People who look uptight, or even worse, who are looking at their phones the whole time, are wasting their time -- and valuable

sand real estate.

THE DETAILS:HOW TO LOOK GOOD ON A BEACH

01Don’t display the crown jewels. I may endorse Prince Charles’ style and his penchant for short shorts, but remember, gentleman: there is such a thing as too short. It’s the

beach, not a prostate exam.

02Sarongs are mostly wrong. Yes, I’ve seen the pictures of Mr. Johnny Depp prowling his

yacht in a sarong, but don’t let this confuse you. He’s Mr. Johnny Depp. He also briefly made me think eyeliner, multiple scarves and thumb rings were cool. Such

luxuries are not for us mere mortals.

03The shoe is not a hiding place: No matter what my dad tells you, don’t think your shoe

is the best place to hide your Rolex. Don’t bring your valuables to the beach, especially if you’re just going to take them off.

04Spaghetti strap tank tops are never appropriate. If the top half of your beach look

looks anything like a prom dress, change your shirt. Immediately.

05Never bling. The only thing that should sparkle at the beach are your eyes as you look

in the horizon. Even if you’re on the Jersey Shore (the beach, not the TV show. Or actually, if you’re on either.) Leave the diamonds at home. A dog tag line on the chest

is definitely not chic.

06For the love of God, don’t forget sunblock. This spring I went to the beach where the

movie The Beach was filmed in Thailand. Not what I expected. I had full reception and the beaches were full of sunburned Swedes and Russians. A lobster would have been jealous of their complexion. Peeling skin decorated by sun spots is never attractive.

Summer travel season is right here. You’ve picked the perfect spot to escape to. You’ve got your trunks and decided to ship your golf clubs to the resort. Dreading those long lines at baggage check in, you opt for a new holdall that fits perfectly in the overhead compartment. After all, the sooner you leave the airport, the sooner you can get to your golf clubs.

GADGET REVIEW: iPAD

KEVIN HYPOLITE

Page 179: Haute Pink July/August 2012

These days seems every few months there’s a new upgrade for our many devices. Almost every year the consumer market is

flooded with the next "big thing" that might surpass the previous. Welcome to the digital Age! The iPad is no exception.

So what makes the New iPad so special?

First, lets look at the features on the new iPad 3 vs iPad 2. The design isn't really different. There’s a weight difference. The new iPad is 50g heavier and 0.6mm thicker. A person who has used the iPad 2 frequently might notice the difference in weight, but most people won’t.

Retina display. The resolution has 3.1 million pixels; 4 times the number in the iPad2 and 1 million more than HDTV; resulting in sharper and better color saturation. This feature is noticeable with ebooks. More games are emerging with outstanding graphics, and colors which will play better with the utopia of iPad 3 pixels.

The new iPad is powered by a new A5X chip with quad core graphic drives giving it an extra boost without loosing battery life; 15%-30% greater battery life.

The 5Megapixel iSight camera (rear camera) is a boost for the photographer. Face detection is also used for pictures. Videos can now record in 1080HD; 720HD

for the iPad2. Facetime and other apps can be used with the New iPad along with special apps designed for this device.4G option is now available and the iOS 5.1 operating system. The advantage of iPad with 4G is the added capability of assisted GPS (A-GPS), allowing users to pinpoint accurately locations on a map and utilize location-aware apps. You can save money by sticking with the Wi-Fi model. However, if you do purchase the 4G download, performance will put a big smile on your face. The 4G version of the iPad also includes a 4G hot-spot capability, allowing other Wi-Fi devices (laptops, tablets, portable media players) to take advantage of the cellular data. Testing download and upload speeds using it as a 4G hot spot found a slight non important data drop.

Still, don't forget the features which made us love the iPhone and iPad; email, web-browsing, music, maps and app software. There is also support for Apple's free iCloud online backup service.

Remember when you buy the case, it's slightly thinner. Most iPad2 cases will work, however, form fitting cases may not.

So, I gave it a thumbs up. Remember it's called the Third-Generation iPad, or New iPad. The leap from iPad 2 to the New iPad was not quantum, but it holds it's own as an outstanding pad for your business and recreation needs.

SHAN SWIMWEAR

Page 181: Haute Pink July/August 2012

Men are so different from women when it comes to swimwear. Women want to make sure everything is tucked in that’s supposed to be. They even seek out swimwear with tummy control. Why? The only thing anyone needs to wear to the pool or beach besides swimwear and sunscreen, is self-confidence. If you think you look good, that’s all that matters. Next time you’re at the beach or a resort, look around and see the array of bodies relaxing and confident in their skin and swimwear.

Men desire pretty much one thing in their swimwear...fit. If it fits it’s a winner. Obviously, the more fit a man is the more likely he is to wear something a little more revealing. For the most part every man will wear whatever he likes.

SHAN Swimwear has a few variations on the basic swim trunk to fit a variety of bodies. Men have it so easy.

Well, it was the weekend before my wife's birthday. I had been arranging this trip for a month. She didn't expect a thing; only that were heading to Las Vegas to celebrate her birthday. That morning we set off for a trip of a lifetime. We arrived in Las Vegas about 2pm. I looked at the huge entertainment signs planted on the side of the freeway. Little did she know we would be indulging in a few shows during this awesome trip. We arrived at her favorite Hotel, Bellagio; her home away from home. I suggested she walk through the beautiful botanical garden while I checked us in. After the check in, I walked over to the concierge desk, to make sure everything was set.

DATE NIGHT

SURPRISE AT THE BELLAGIO

Page 187: Haute Pink July/August 2012

They gave me the OK; all systems go! As we made our way to the elevators, I could hardly keep a straight face. I was so happy and proud to be the conductor of this exciting adventure and trip. We have stayed at Bellagio in the past, however, I wondered if she noticed anything different. As we walked past the first row of elevators, then the second, she asked, "What have you done?" I replied "We have a room on a different floor.” She accepted this answer and happily stepped into the elevator. As I used my room key, the elevator made it's way to the top floors of the hotel. As we walked off the elevator, the walls of the hallway were coated with Mahogany dark wood...very elegant. As we walked down the hallway, she said, "Humm, the doors to these rooms look different, Kinda fancy and wide.” I just smiled and kept walking. We eventually arrived at our room. As I opened the door to our suite, she was speechless. She walked in with eyes wide, and proceeded to look out the massive window to the lake in front of the hotel. She then ran to the master bedroom, looked around, and again looked out the window. At this point I asked if she liked it. She let out a sheer loud cry! My bones shook! I was startled! My first reaction, was to quiet her down. It sounded like someone was hurt bad! She gave me a tight hug and said she loved it. I went to the car and left her to call her girlfriends. When I returned, she informed me a basket of bath goodies came. I told her everything that comes is part of your birthday. We broke out the last pack of Girl scout Cookies (Thin Mints), and relaxed. Within 20 minutes, there was another knock at the door. It was a delivery of flowers. The bouquet was huge and beautiful. The flowers were placed in the entrance on a mantle. I took a few pictures as she celebrated her flowers. It was close to 6pm. We dressed up for the next occasion and proceeded to the theater to see "O" by Cirque du Soleil. Our seats were on the 3rd

row. The show was outstanding! Afterwards, we went to Jasmines restaurant for a wonderful Cantonese dinner while watching the Bellagio fountains dance. After the meal, the waiters came in with a small personal birthday cake for two. She was truly surprised and speechless. She said she doesn't know how much more she can take. We took a few bites of the delicious cake and proceeded to the suite. It had been a big busy night. The next day, she indulged herself at the Spa. Afterwards, we relaxed in the suite. By now she was little hungry and wanted to grab some breakfast. I told her I had arranged for breakfast to come to us this morning. Later that afternoon, there was a knock at the door followed by another basket of goodies; this time, 2 soft robes. Later on that evening, we dressed for another special evening. When we got downstairs, we made a little detour. I guided her out to a limo waiting to take us to the MGM Hotel. She was speechless for a moment before asking, “Where are we going?” I replied, “You’ll see.” As we walked in the lobby of the massive hotel, she had no idea what was in store. We continued to the Garden Area to see my favorite singer Sarah Brightman live in concert. My wife, had never heard any of her music, however, I knew she’d love it and she did. After the concert we walked around the hotel before driving around the city. We had a great time, popping in and out the limo at different hotels along the strip. A few hours later, we were back at our hotel. As we made our way up to our suite, we discovered fresh chocolate dipped strawberries on a cart. This was a gift from Bellagio to us. For the next few days we relaxed, watched the fountain show noon and night from the window of our suite. Our trip had been written in our minds and hearts. At the end of the week the symphony had come to an end, but the pictures and memories will last a lifetime.

Summer is one of the best fashion seasons of the year. It gives everyone a chance to brighten up their wardrobe with some color. Some men are a little more daring than others, being bold enough to wear pink pants or green khakis with ducks. That’s a very special man who can walk around wearing ducks. Instead opt for white jeans, white t-shirt and a navy blazer with a colorful pocket square. Or maybe khaki or white shorts, white t-shirt and a colorful sweater or a scarf around your neck. On a date, the scarf would allow you to showcase your sense of chivalry by wrapping it around your date’s shoulders. Most women love seeing a man in color, it shows a strong sense of security and masculinity. And the easiest way to wear color is in your accessories.
