Today a popular hotel for those seeking a paranormal experience, the Brij Raj Bhavan Palace
is 178 years old and the former home of the royal Kota family. The residence seems to boast
its own resident ghost, that of a former resident, Major Burton. This British official, along with
his two sons, was killed during the Mutiny of 1857 by a group of Indian sepoys.
Sightings report the Major wandering about the palace, with his cane in hand, from the
drawing room where he was murdered. No one has every reported any harmful actions by the
Major, although he is reported to strike guards with his cane if he comes across them sleeping
while on duty at night.
Do you believe in ghosts? Perhaps you should delay answering that question until you travel
to Indiaand tour these reported haunted palaces of India. Many tourists have come away
believers. Even without a paranormal experience, these sites are wonderful places to catch a
glimpse of India’s storied past.
