HATCH EMBROIDERY 2.1

This document contains notes on Hatch Embroidery 2.1 Update. This is a stand-alone installation. You do not need to have a previous release of Hatch embroidery software installed on your system. If you currently have Hatch 2.0 installed, you don’t need to uninstall it. You can install this update over the 2.0 release.

The screen illustrations in this publication are intended as representations, not exact duplicates of screen layouts generated by the software. The samples used to illustrate software features and capabilities may not be exactly duplicable, depending on your product level.

SYSTEM IMPROVEMENTS

The Hatch Embroidery 2.1 benefits from the following system improvements and enhancements...

Sign out and release license

In Hatch software, there are two ways to quit the program, found under the File menu:

1) Sign Out and Release License

When you use the ‘Sign Out and Release License’ command while connected to the internet, the software will release the license from your computer, back to your account. You do this when you want to move the license to another computer. Once you use Sign out and Release, you will need to be connected to the internet to sign back in.

2) Exit Program

You will use this if you have checked ‘Keep me Signed In’ when you first logged into the software and connected to the internet. This means you don’t need to sign each time you run the software. You also use this when you want to run the software without being connected to the internet. For more information, see the Hatch FAQ on ‘How to manage my Hatch license‘.

Hatch 2.1 data structure

With the release of Hatch 2.1, the installation folder structure has been reconfigured in line with current Windows standards. The main categories of assets include:

Assets Examples

User files This includes custom fabrics, templates, motifs, borders, and fonts, all of which are stored in dedicated folders within the software installation itself.

Embroidery files

These include sample designs installed to the ‘Public Embroidery’ folder at this location within the Embroidery Library. Any designs, cutting files, or machine files that you save from Hatch will be saved by default to the ‘My Embroidery’ folder at this location. You can of course save them to any other location of your choosing.

Artwork files Like the sample embroidery designs, sample artwork is installed to the ‘Public Pictures’ folder within the Picture Library. Any artwork that you save from Hatch will be saved by default to the ‘My Pictures’ folder.

Whenever you install updates or upgrades to your existing software, all the above assets will be preserved. However, if you install your software to another PC, you will need to manually copy the contents of these folders to the new location. For further details, see Personal data.

EDITING IMPROVEMENTS

Editing in Hatch Embroidery 2.1 benefits from the following new capabilities...

Applying Closest Join

The ‘Apply Closest Join’ command was not always working as expected. Selecting all objects and pressing <J> did not always result in objects being connected via ‘closest join’. With the release of Hatch 2.1, this problem has been resolved.

For more information about the Closest Join feature, see Closest joins.

Start & end points in Redwork

When creating ‘redwork’, closest join from objects preceding the redwork design will now be ignored. This allows you to determine your redwork start position regardless of previous objects. Redwork start position takes precedence over Closest Join.

For more information about redwork in Hatch Embroidery, see Redwork.

Scrolling through thread colors

With the release of Hatch 2.1, you can now scroll the color list in the ‘Threads’ docker with objects selected. Use the arrow keys to move through the list and try out different colors ‘on-the-fly’.

Custom templates

There have been a number of queries about custom templates in Hatch. While the functionality hasn’t changed, we now provide a topic in the online documentation dedicated to the use of this sometimes misunderstood feature. For details, see Design templates.

IMPROVED PES FILE SUPPORT

With the release of Hatch 2.1, the PES format has been updated to work better with some Brother machines. Improvements include retaining connectors and trims in PES format.

Missing multi-hoop registration marks

Previously, when opening PES files in Hatch on some machines, multi-hoop registration marks were missing even when present in the Hatch software. With the release of Hatch 2.1, the PES file format has been updated.

For more information about multi-hooping registration marks, see Output multi-hooped designs.

Incorrect reading of PES color codes

PES color codes are being read incorrectly from the saved EMB files. When read on the Brother machine, the assigned color codes do not match those of the print preview. Affected thread charts include MADEIRA CLASSIC 40 and MADEIRA POLYNEON 40. With the release of Hatch 2.1, this problem has been resolved.

Exporting appliqué to PES format

Problems have been reported when loading a PES appliqué file created in Hatch onto a multi-needle Brother machine. The machine does not stop as expected between appliqué components. The problem has been resolved with the release of Hatch 2.1.

For more information about appliqué in Hatch Embroidery, see Digitizing for appliqué.

OTHER IMPROVEMENTS WITH FILE SUPPORT

The following file-related issues have been fixed with the latest update...

Custom hoops saved with Janome multi-needle machine files

Problems have been reported when saving custom hoops to certain Janome machines. With the release of Hatch 2.1, only machines that allow custom hoops will have this feature available. Namely, Janome multi-needle machines.

Only Janome multi-needle machines support custom hoops.

SVG output from Hatch software

SVG files exported from Hatch sometimes failed to open at the correct size in some graphics programs and cutting machines. With the release of Hatch 2.1, the SVG file format has been updated.

There are some cutting machines that do not read all SVG formats correctly. If your cutting machine does not appear to be opening the file at the correct size, please check with the machine manufacturer for limitations or updates. Some cutting machines require that you open an SVG design in their own software and save it out. Currently we cannot support some of the Cricut cutting machines. For more information about outputting SVG, see Export cutting lines.
