MEMORIAL DAY 2014 – MONDAY, MAY 26Since the Civil War, we have celebrated Memorial Day as an occasionto honor those who have served our country in past wars and today, both those who survived and, especially, those who did not and gavetheir lives to protect our freedoms. Sadly, again this year, hundreds ofthousands of American soldiers are in harms’ way around the world andthey must be in our thoughts and prayers as we pay tribute on this day. However you choose to celebrate pay tribute on this day, by visitingand/or placing flowers on a veterans gravesite, by thanking a veteranthat you know personally (a simple handshake will do), you can be surethat your efforts are appreciated by those you honor and their families.Another great idea, take some extra flowers to the cemetery with youand place them on a veteran’s grave that has none. An especially mean-ingful way to celebrate for both you and our veterans is to attend and/orparticipate in one of the many Memorial Day Parades or observances inour area. The annual Hastings Memorial Day Parade (sponsored bythe Hastings American Legion Post) begins at 9:30 a.m. in downtownHastings. Join the parade and show your patriotism.
