This approach, based on muscle exercises, is very concrete and tangible. This method is often used in martial arts or to search for wellbeing but no one, apart from the founder himself, has able to acquire many skills. Is that it is an original creation by me Hida. One can then ask whether this effectiveness is limited to his person, or if it lacks some elements for it to be applicable. I think it is this second event which proves to be right. Why? Because a very large asceticism is necessary to apply this method; one can even say that characterizes it. Himself clearly states: "There is no need that I teach this method to people who do not want no further ", that is to say, who do not want to engage their entire existence. The application of this total method requires an adjustment of the whole life, to the point of view of the pace of life, the food, the way of seeing things, etc. Partial application does not produce results comparable to those of Mr. Hida itself. Although it was developed by me Hida, who was in very poor health, it paradoxically requires a good condition physically. For those who do not have a progressive practice, very bent posture of the pelvis can cause problems. This is a first point that needs to be very careful; after each of the exercises, it will be necessary to ensure the pelvic posture to compensate for the extra effort. The method in question is not magic. This is a global practice that encompasses a lifestyle. Certainly, the exercises practiced ten minutes every morning, put the motor on energy for the day, all for your contributions. but this is only if they live in the manner that is appropriate to the concept of pathimplied by this method. This is a problem and a major difficulty. At the end of the textcontained in the annex, a few drawings, drawn from personal documents, intended toencourage memorization for students following my teaching. Among these we find tenkata base; should the reader is his comments and his own memo from his practice. The method of Hida: how to strengthen the body and mind Today, martial arts methodfinds much of its significance in the balance it brings to our lives. From this point ofview, I found an imbalance in the work of martial arts that requires constantly the useof other methods or spiritual energy to compensate for certain deficiencies orimbalances. By feeling the lack of karate method, I began a search that led me to thestudy of different schools, Japan and China, practicing energy work and among themthe method Hida. Who was Harumitsu Hida? Hida Harumitsu was very frail.Teenager, he decided to improve his health and began to study alone, anatomy, physiology, together with the different methods of traditional eastern and westernphysical reinforcement. It leads to awareness of the essential role of Tanden, keystoneoriental martial arts and deepens knowledge. Through his long solitary research and awork of introspection directed mainly on his body, he eventually establish its ownmethod he called "Seichushindo" (the way of the true center). With this method, heacquired physical and mental abilities and realized exceptional repeatedly, exploitssurprising. I think your interest in H. Hida and his approach will increase if you knowwhat kind of capabilities it had reached, although at first sight some doubts about theirveracity. However, there are many corroborating testimony on these points. Quotesome sentences which I translate his book "Seichushindo" Hidashiki kyôkenjutsu EdSôjinsha, Saitama 1980. "The June 18, 1922 (he was 39 years old), in the night, I gotin my dojo is a small cabin of 4 m² solidly built on large branches of a huge tree ... Idid the exercise of superior oblique muscle, which is the fourth of my core exercises. Itis that of basic exercises which I attach the greatest importance. I started standing, widely spaced feet, arching the pelvis, I raised my hands by the sides to above thehead, while inspiring . At this point the knees are taut and it must feel the weight ofthe body down to the toes. I crossed hands over his head and lowered his armsoutstretched while exhaling. At the same time, I took in the chest, dug the plexussolar, pushed the pelvis back and given a round shape at the lower part of thestomach. At the same time, I bowed the knee and I have lowered the center of gravityby reducing the weight on the heels. I was absorbed in the repetition of this exercise, ignoring what was in front of me. J 'I felt all of a sudden a great power, scary, whichsprang from the center of my body between the pelvis and abdomen, as if I heard apowerful sound. I felt this force crossed the floor, penetrated into the ground, reachedthe center of the earth, and then left to the infinity of the universe. I said : "Oh! It isan infinite force! " I was convinced it was of infinite energy, the energy of the universe, the source of life. I was filled with an immense joy, a consistent and quiet joy at once, like a mountain in the deep calm of the cosmos ... Filled with joy, I performed theexercise oblique muscles using kiai . When I put my right foot powerfully on the

Page 3: Harumitsu Hida1.pdf

ground with a kiai, I heard a thud. What had happened? I saw a hole in the shape ofmy foot into a solid board 2.5 cm thick. A second time, then. a third time, I did thesame exercise. On each trial, my foot through the board that offered no resistance. Inthe fourth trial, across the board, my foot broke the support wood 12 cm thick clearlymarking the shape of the heel. Today I keep in my dojo board and wood brokensupport commemorate the experience. What does this mean? Subsequently I havecarefully examined the position and movement of my body when so much energy hasgone through. I have carefully looked for why such force had sprung. I get it. It is thecenter, like a red hot iron, emanates a pure sincerity. I had gone through and beyondthe exercise of basic kata, that is to say, I had formed two forces equal in the stomachand in the basin back, which requires a curved shape of the basin , buttocks arepushed in back, lower abdomen is pushed down, the solar plexus is not dug and thecenter of gravity was led above the center of each foot. This is the right form. Aftergoing through many difficulties, I had reached a final victory. There is this principlethat can strengthen the body and mind to that degree. That this sensation is nice andclean. How can I communicate to others the experience? . " The transformationmethod Continuing the development of his method, H. Hida then attempts to decreasethe time required for daily exercise because he thinks he is not to practice for hoursevery day, but to practice as briefly as possible to trigger the body to just walking allday. He thinks ten minutes a day of exercise daily should suffice to implement themethod. He then writes: "As as I advanced in my research I began to shorten thetime. Starting ten minutes, I arrived five minutes, two minutes and a half. Finally, today I have needed only 40 seconds to twenty gestures of my exercise to bring out alarge body energy center. But I never imagined that such a thing is possible .. . ". Inits approach H. Hida adopts a scientific attitude, but since the night of June 18, 1922,he seems to have acquired the capacity inexplicable. It performs in front of manypeople, different surprising experiences, saying, "These are trivial things, all quitelogical. ".

on .... Testimony on experience "The master did cover his head with a steel cylinderdouble thickness he did cover it with a cloth, so it was covered up to his shoulders; it isimpossible to see anything in these conditions. He took the hand of a person and readthe lines of the hand and also found the slightest stain on his hands. He could find thehidden part of the clothing and the content of a person's pockets. He was also able tofluently read a book that took a person who was on the other side of a wall. For this, it

did not need to look in the direction of the person in question. He put himself in thatdirection only for the assistants can easily hear his voice in order to see the correlationbetween reading and text of the book. He could tell us what was going on at the busstation, five to six hundred meters away. He knew to see what was happening inforeign countries and often knew the events in advance. He took a small bow child. Iplaced myself at any place, taking a piece of wire in his hand; his head was coveredwith the steel cylinder and, therefore, could not I see. However, with each shot, thearrow touching my wire. It was the same when I moved. I asked him: "Of a thousandor ten thousand tests, you may be able to miss time? ". The master replied with asmile: " Can I fail because I let the arrow after touching the target. " The master hasfigures to calculate experiences with experts abacus. The teacher said that he did notcare, even if it were thirty six thousand numbers. But this is impossible with theabacus, they set the number of digits to twenty. It was to make multiplicationcalculations, division, subtraction and addition with numbers twenty of numbers. Theystarted together and the teacher found the answer each time in less than eightseconds and waited for the response of experts abacus. He never cheated in theresponse. Someone wrote on the board a number consisting of more than ten digits.Another person also wrote a number consisting of many digits. The master is alwaysplaced in conditions where he can not see the table. He said to someone, " You dividethe first number in two or three as you want. " It performs repeatedly, addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. Finally he gets the number written by the otherperson. He had prepared twenty to fifty dice on each side, wrote a threedigit number. The numbers written on the faces of all the dice are different. The teacher said thatthe number of dice does not matter, but for the convenience of calculation, we havelimited the number. We put all the dice on a board and discarded into the air. The dicefall on the mat, on the desktop, on the chair. The master writes immediately twonumbers, one of which is the total sum of the numbers written on the top surface of allthe dice, the other corresponds to the hidden surface. Sometimes he wrote the answerbefore some dice rolled in height will stop rolling on the floor. The master had anextraordinary memory. he would remember everything he had read since coming tocollege. Civil codes, the Sutra, the Bible, literary works and scientific Japanese orforeign. He had trained to be able to out immediately while he had memorized. Hesaid : " You too, you memorize all that you have seen and heard, but only you donot know classify, or store, or rather you do not make any effort to classify, c 'Therefore you can not find it at your leisure. ". I assumed, hearing these words, thathis memory is classified as books in a library. I regret not having asked him to teachme the basic exercises to acquire this ability because I was every time too excited. You remove the bottom of a cylindrical tea box. The master instead a thin sheet ofpaper instead of the bottom and fill with water that box. He lifts the box but no drop ofwater falling. It raises another sheet of paper on the other side and he ties a threadaround the middle and held this cylindrical can balance horizontally. He leaves thathung box, no drop falls, even after several days. You cut a plain paper into strips

about three centimeters twelve. You fold it in two places to form a U. Each bent part, you hang a ring of wire and you take one of the two rings with your fingers so thatthe other ring remains suspended on the other ply paper. Sometimes the paper cannot hold the weight of the ring. Now this ring, you tie a stone block that you can liftwith effort (20 kg). How can we think of the lift under these conditions? It isimpossible. Yet, having determined its position with a kiai, the master was raised. Thething is incredible that the paper folds were unchanged and heavy stone was raised. He repeated several times the same test. There was no faking, we were so close thatcould touch the objects. The teacher explained this phenomenon as well: he had usedthe cosmic force which, through objects such as paper and son of iron, making themmore powerful. To make use of this force, it forms a kind of globe placing a force equalto the lower abdomen and behind the pool. It places the center of the globe in themiddle of the spacing of the feet, then directs these two points exactly to the center ofthe earth so that the three points form a single alignment. The master said it was not astrange power, nor a miracle and that all can do, if they train properly. . " Religion ortraining method? Many similar exploits of H. Hida are reported. They were all made between 1920 and 1956, so there is a large number of publications reporting them. Wecan take a skeptical position about all this. Personally, I have no opportunity todemonstrate the authenticity of these experiences and I have also no way to disprovethem. It remains the significant number of converging publications that go in the senseof authenticity. I have met so far few people who showed me unusual abilities, whichinclines me to believe in the authenticity of the experiences of H. Hida. My judgment isshared: I can not give an interpretation of these scientific experiments, but show methat my observations of this nature phenomena may exist. It is also true that manyextraordinary phenomena are explained by the special effects which we know therefinement of the art of the magicians. But it is a different dimension. I have done itseveral years ago, a research on the formation of religious groups in Japan and I wassurprised to learn that many of the groups officially declared exceeds one hundredthousand. These groups are mostly a constellation around a "sacred" character. Manyof them seemed to me doubtful, but a hundred groups appear to have formed arounda character with unusual abilities. The central person often has a significant power andsome experiments are publicly considered "miracles." By studying the religions withsome distance, we can see a number of inexplicable phenomena that are consideredmiracles and divinity of signs. For example, Wanisaburô Deguchi, master MoriheiUeshiba, directed the religious group Omotokyo with little capacity ordinary. Note thatthis group was one of the critical targets of H. Hida who considered it as a deception tothe people. Indeed, H. Hida has always vigorously denied that his group became areligious group. His thesis is indeed that anyone who is thoroughly and properly investin the method he put the item could reach capabilities that are his. After the discoveryof his method, he performed for many years a many conferences to provoke thoughtto build a better society from a global formation of man. His extraordinary health hidher real age: at 55, no one gave him more than 25 years and he says it was becoming

Page 12: Harumitsu Hida1.pdf

harder and he did not see the limits of his progress. However, with these samecapabilities, it enters political action to prevent that Japan entered the war, and by thebeginning of this one, it provides the tragic fate of Japan and sees the future of theblack humanity. He then departs from the company for living in nature. Especially afterthe war, having retired to his country residence, he stubbornly refused to receivevisitors. From the beginning of July 1956, he stopped eating and drinking and turns offby itself after 49 days. What does this voluntary death? I presented very quickly theperson of Harumitsu Hida is, for me, the greatest master of our time in the path of thebody conceived as a human development research . The formation of his method andhis experience, he teaches us a possibility open to everyone's efforts. It goes farbeyond the concern of being effective martial art. However, he received several timesof martial arts experts who recognized immediately their defeat because his approachkey open the question of effectiveness. We shall see retracing its route._________________ Sε werε wo wo fi na san kɔfa has yenkyi "Last edited byProximus Oscultor Wed, June 18, 2008 10:35 am; edited 2 times"

That is why I will present the main lines of the works of H. Hida with minimal feedback. Harumitsu Hida was born onDecember 25, 1883. His father, Tatemitsu Kawai, was a doctor. When he was six, hismother and three of his brothers and sisters died of disease and, himself, was veryfragile and sickly. Here is how it appears in his writings. Childhood "I was theeighth child of one family at a faint life. My father had 50 years to my birth and my oldmother, lacked milk ... I was very thin, with a face and also an approach daughter.Playing, the other children often wore me on their backs because I was very light. Theguests of the house often asked me if I was a girl. My bones were thin and my skinwas pale, dry and grease. This is why we often put me in oil on all the body ... This ishow death was going to pick me, like my brothers and sisters. When I was six, I was illwith typhus, which caused pneumonia and asthma accompanied by violent diarrhea. With 40 of fever, I was so weak that doctors said my case hopeless. My father, whohad lost a son the same year, was on the verge of despair. The day of the festival ofthe dead was approaching. He said : "I would like to survive, if only for three days, tospend the festival of the dead with him. ". I'm not dead, but I was literally skin andbones ... I was constantly sick throughout my childhood and I was familiar with allkinds of drugs. My digestive system was fragile, I constantly headaches and dizziness,I enrhumais any time. The area of my life was a sick bed. The image of my childhoodis that of a boy who has the skin and bones, and begins sadly standing by narrowingits miserable body in the wind cold. What dark childhood! ... Later, my friendsnicknamed me "reed leaf", I was not able to rebel against such a humiliatingnickname. I just had to accept it and, when it was too painful, I left without beingnoticed ... My biceps were not bigger than my wrists, I was ashamed of my body. Isighed, thinking that my body could not bear the slightest effort. I was actually a "reedleaf" .... " He decided to transform At eighteen years old, the consciousness of hisdesperate fragility will spark in him the decision to transform his own body. "I startedone day thinking about my future, my social destiny, I got scared and started selfcriticism. I said , "Hey! Harumitsu, what will you do by being so bad! A little cold andyou're already cold. You eat a little and you've already hurt the stomach and diarrhea.

You walk a bit and you're tired. In sleep, you're only nightmares. What interest he hasto live this way? What a sad life you lead, the only thing you're good in nurturing theland of your grave. " This horrible thought crossed my heart and a great storm rose inmy chest so oppressed by a sense of inferiority ... Deep in myself, I wanted to getgood health and a body robust, like a thirsty desires drink. I did not get a good healthjust for not being sick but I wanted to be strong, really strong, in order to dosomething courageous for others. This desire was a determination in which I myselfwas investing all around, which ultimately allowed me to transform my body and mymind. It was in April of 1900, I was 17 ... The plants grow like a flame in the summer, fall arrives and winter, they retract under the snow. Yet they will rejoice in thesunshine on the arrival of spring. But if the snow heavily covered for four or five years, these plants would die all. Is my body is not like those plants covered with snow fortoo long to start the spring? My vitality is it will not completely withered? If, underthese conditions, I exercise, I can destroy me completely. How so? Well! Just let medie ... In my state, there are only two solutions: either I win or I die. It is the honor ofman to die trying to achieve his goal. It is and I made the first step ... I thought it wasa strong foundation for my approach. I therefore had to know the structure of thehuman body. For this, I gathered the books of anatomy and physiology of the librarymy father. I plunged into reading these books I read with respect, as a Christian readsthe Bible ... because it was of crucial works for my existence in this world ... Bystudying the functions Internal body, organs and viscera, I was deeply struck by themystery of life that exists in nature. With a surprise and a deep admiration, I had torecognize the divine work and I am convinced that it is a close relationship betweenbelief and science. Learn what the metabolism and cell renewal m 'particularlyencouraged. The human body is not like a stone statue or rubber, he actively worksand is able to renew itself. If I could develop properly this immanent vital capacity, Iwas sure to be able to transform completely the state of my body, so poor and ugly. Ifthe cells of those who are healthy are renewed after 7 years, I'll put 10 years to getout of my state of weakness. I put 15 years to reach the status of an ordinary bodyand persevering for 20 years by investing my life, I thought to go beyond the ordinarylevel. In spring, a plum tree blossom even more fragrant he went through a severewinter. The emotion of the decision made me tears to my eyes ... When I read thephrase "An exquisite spring plum smell forms precisely because it crossed the severityof the winter in snow. "I was moved to tears. I need patience and sustained effort! Mypath is certainly long and difficult. I have become like a plum blossom. Patience andeffort! ! ". ". The solitary study "Following my readings on anatomy and physiology, Icollected all kinds of books on exercise and I also read books on medicine, hygiene, physiology of sports. Every time I met a new year, I practiced immediately andthought about it. The abundance of practices imposed on me the need to choose. Imust say that I have never looked for a personal method, I sought only way to saveme from my physical misery ... So I took as a model a perfect body: the bonestructure, muscles, shape, internal organs, athletic ability. In a way, it was ridiculous

Page 19: Harumitsu Hida1.pdf

for him that was the most pathetic take to model the perfect body ... I do not stopmyself to mundane methods, which aim at a paltry efficiency, such as the simplegymnastics, breathing deep, washings with cold water and a few methods of hygieneto a small wellbeing. My goal was to increase the quality and effect of all theseexercises methodical together ... I sought a method that meets the followingconditions: The practice of the method must not be passive but active SINCE it isgetting a rugged and powerful body Exercise should be a goal in itself and should notbe preparing a technical; Exercise does not require spending money or toinstruments. Health must be created by the unique effort of the body The mostimportant is that you should not perform an exercise that requires a lot of time. Ifexercise is prolonged, it becomes difficult to do every day as it may cause unnecessaryfatigue.

Re: Harumitsu Hida by Cassiopeia Thurs., April 30 8:16 p.m.

I built and my decision to cross that body transformation path and when I heard of a person who has invested heavily to achieve its goal, I sincerely studied its approach. How many times have I been encouraged by others, when I almost gave up? Because I had no certainty of success in my approach, but it should continue regardless of the pain of failure ... When I read the translation of the novel "MonteCristo" (Alexandre Dumas), j ' I was deeply moved that a prisoner who dug a tunnelfor 7 years and having the wrong direction was primed to start his attempt ... I wouldput 10 years for the body that is able to escape from illness and after 15 years I wouldget a normal body. I will succeed, I succeed ... A prisoner is trying to succeed inprison; I, at least, I am in a free world. How could I not try? Every time I asked myfather a new book, it has me bought without asking my goal. He was just glad to seeme studious. In the house, in my abdominal exercises and strengthening differentmuscles, I chutais, hitting the ground with the feet and hands, above the tatami wastorn in several places , the soils of the materials were disorderly, broken sliding doorsor holes, but my father never scolded me. Rather, he seemed happy to see me, I whohad always been so sick of seeing me move today with such violence. Does he let himlove doubled mercy to a child without a mother? My father, like my older brother, letme do anything I wanted. Despite my frailty, thanks to their love that I couldcontinue to build my way. Whenever I remember my father, so loving, I have tears inmy eyes .... my goal. For the state of my health has improved rapidly. The color of my skin haschanged. My arms were thin as sticks were adorned with towering muscles, myshoulders have become square. As I felt good about myself! My face reflected thevitality, my eyes were alive, my nose and my mouth tense and full of strength. Wherewas the shadow of old patient? Yet only two years had passed, so I started thinkingput more than ten years to get a regular body ... In April 1902, at 19 (twenty years inthe H. Hida text) , I was able to enter college in Yamanashi Prefecture, while mychildhood friends were already out in recent years. Proud of my health, I made everyday walk the long way to school. I never missed class or been late, no matter whatwas the weather, rain, snow and wind, as I was no longer the "reed leaf "... I had toget up early in the morning because he had to walk 8 kilometers. As soon as I got up,I was a complete set of my exercises in my unlit room. Then I was washing in coldwater, then had breakfast and left for school. In winter, when I came home fromschool after eight kilometers of walking, the day had already darkened. I put myselfout, shirtless, in shorts, exposed to the cold wind coming down from Mount Fuji andwas doing violent a complete set of my exercises based on strengthening the body'scenter. The exercises completely erased the tiredness of my legs. I never fail to followthis program. So my results were encouraging me and I forced myself every day ofstrenuous exercise. As a reward for my perseverance, I discovered a principle thatruns through physical activities, which led me to some beliefs about methodology.During this passionate practice, I happened spontaneously transform some methods byfinding their flaws. For example, during a certain exercise, it happened a few timesthat my legs and my hands refuse to follow the series of movements that I hadestablished the form and they were moving differently. Thinking about it carefully, Ifound that often the new movements of my body were more rational. This is a personaldiscovery but also, I think, it must be said, of enlightenment. For what I got by thiscontinual research is not limited to the happiness of health, but I could get closer tothe subtle reason for the creation of life by Nature. I persevered in my search solitaryfor over ten years and in April 1911 (29 years), while I was finishing my studiesuniversity, I published my first book "Essay on the method of direct physical building. "However, I had never spoken to anyone, not even my family or my friends, myresearch and my planned publication. How many years of effort for me that was sofragile. My father and my older brother, who raised me so affectionately, were satisfiedwith the only improvement in my health and have never thought that I was pursuingsuch a search routine. I thought that the mouth was the door of the mind . If onemonitors not opening the mouth, we risk losing the ability to reach the truth. I alwaysconducted myself with this line of conduct that gave me courage and hope with which Icould continue alone in an enclosed space, ascetic exercises. Everything in thebeginning, when my arms were still similar to rods, once I was trying to force mymuscles became sore, my bones nearly broken. The body part that suffering wasinflamed, which is a sign of vitality. I sometimes had the feeling that my body was thatof someone else because it was often paralyzed by fatigue due to exercise. But I've

never stopped because I was investing my life. If I had to die because of these efforts,I thought I did not care. However, although the difficulty was in practice, I wasconvinced that my approach was sufficiently scientific. . " Thus, H. Hida, very young, determined a line of research he followed with the same intensity as regards theacquisition of knowledge than practice. _________________ Sε werε wo wo fi na sanhas kɔfa , yenkyi

In his earlier works, he recounts in detail his journey and the process of his reflections. I specify that there is no translation of his works and today, even in Japan, they are published only in small print runs. That is why it seems important to publicize this method. I discovered this method in 1980,during my research on internal processes and, at the first reading, it interested me asmoderately. Subsequently, I met several teachers who applied it partly what promptedme to study again and, with the experience of qigong and breathing methods, Ienjoyed the wealth. I am convinced that this method is directly applicable to martialarts, or rather it helps to find a kind of serenity which converges with the objective ofBudo. H. Hida practiced judo and kendo and studied other arts martial. Martial artswere not for him a goal but a means to advance in the search for a method to recreate

his body. A mature man, young. I remember the reluctance on the credibility ofsome anecdotes about that H. Hida I have previously made. Having first sought amethod to improve their health impaired and being managed, H. Hida comes todeveloping a "path of health "which is actually a way of life. It defines the startingpoint: "By using the power of the stomach that is the foundation of the arts Japanesemartial, I practiced a method that I organized in relying on the knowledge gained bythe study of Western sciences . . " Thirtyseven years after the beginning of hisresearch, he wrote: "The way of the sacred center Method Hida to strengthen being "(Scido chushin : Hidashiki Kyoken jutsu) and presents this assessment: "In this year1936, I am 53 years old (54 years in the text of H. Hida). But in terms of muscles, internal organs, the beauty of the teeth and physical strength, how Swiss I less thanwhat I was 23 or 24 years in their youth? There is no difference. On the contrary, Ihave to acknowledge, with appreciation, that all the points I am making progress. AndI'm the same evidence of the correctness of the method whose continual and rationalpractice has achieved and maintain youthful energy, giving hope to others. Not onlymy body is young but my mind has so much emotion and sincerity than when Idecided to turn my body when I was 18. As for the strength of will, I have more. Imust say that I got all these results through the integration of mind and body into asingle central point of the body. Which may result from the acquisition of the real bodyof the center beyond all imagination. By discovering, I can not help but let me carriedaway by emotion ... In September 1931, I visited the General Suzuki Ministry Imperial.General gave me 30 years and his wife gave me 20 when I was 48 (49 in the text) ...'. Note that at this time the longevity of the Japanese was below 50. A person aged 50thus appeared more old today where longevity is around 80 years. He continues: "It isgenerally gives me less than thirty years, when I have more than 50 ... When in ahostel, I write my age, you me says always, "Please enter your true age" because noone believes me ever. But the key is not the appearance of youth. The most importantis the apparent youth in the qualities of body, mind and soul. At 54, my eyesight is notas good as in the days of my youth. She even much improved. I am able to readclearly all the letters of the review panel's vision from a distance twice the usual. Towrite this book, I sometimes used a dictionary containing 33,000 words and is smallerthan a matchbox (it is designed to be used with a magnifying glass). I read with thenaked eye, even at night, in low light. With regard to the visual capacity, it must berecognized that I had to ask my eyes hard. Because I studied at the same time in fourdifferent universities and in the years that I spent in the army, I was in charge of theclassification of many documents. I also wrote far more than a dozen books. But notethat my eyesight grew hand in hand with that of all my body. It also proves thevalidity of a strengthening of the real center of the body. The force of the gushing truecenter is neither a simple force physical or mechanical force. It is alive, light accordingto the track, it is soft and hard at a time. It is heavy and too lightly. This is theultimate state of human strength. For such a force, it must acquire a perfect posture ofthe body, which is realized by a perfect balance of power in both parts of the body: the

Page 31: Harumitsu Hida1.pdf

lower abdomen and the back of the pelvis. To achieve this balance, we must be able tocompletely empty his mind. It must be said that when you manage to you to fill in afair strength, you can completely stop thinking. You can get into a state where you've hunted all ridiculous thought and where your mind is in a quiet, in a beauty deeplysacred. How could I explain this state of mind? It is similar to the color of the flamesthat you will see around the sun during an eclipse. Or it is bright as the seven colors ofclouds around Mount Fuji during certain twilights. It is not a simple mechanical forcewhich is not deep, but the spiritual force produced by the body, the life force. It waswhen I managed to focus the power of the mind over the central point of my body myfoot crossed the plate 2.5 cm thick of the dojo, leaving the imprint of her form andbreaking in addition a large timber support of more than 30 cm round where remainedthe mark of my heel. The more I exercise myself with such force by focusing all myenergy vital, the more my mind clears and my eyes become piercing. My breathingbecomes increasingly calm. Everything else is surprised because, immediately aftermaking a series of very violent exercises, I speak with a calm breath if I was chattingquietly in a lounge. The method includes various exercises on the floor and standing:breathing exercise, strengthening visceral strengthening different muscles, exercisewith kiai, exercise on a chair exercise of drawing the sword. Just after making all theseexercises with a flaming intensity, I have exactly the same heart rate before starting. This phenomenon has been observed by Dr. Hirano. Surprised, he wanted me toexamine in greater depth in order to prepare a report medical. In any case, this isnothing strange for me because with the right posture of the body, organs and visceraof my body are very well protected, as if they were in a steel barrel ... past afterreading my book, Dr. Tamiya of the University of Tokyo, came to see me. It made melisten to a device listening to the sound of my arm muscles occurs during acontraction. This sound like that produced by son during electrical storms. ". Theefficiency in everyday life "One day, I shot a big tree, I've sawn and split the woodwith the proper size to burn, then I packed all of the logs. I did all this work between 3o'clock in the afternoon and sunset. The woodcutter me say that it was a work of morethan two full days ... For the rural work, I decided not to work with the workersbecause my work easily two to three times more efficient than on them and saw thatthis bothers them ... With the right body posture, my digestive capacity hassurprisingly progressed. If I do not eat much usual, it's because I did not need muchroom. But when is a feast for family or friends, sometimes I can easily eat like threepeople, but I never have a problem. Furthermore, I digest so well that after an houralready I feel like my stomach is empty. It is as if a magician had erased the food Iconsumed. It surprises all the world. Some dried fish cooked in water are so hard thatall the world has difficulty in chewing a. But I can eat several plates and I feel so lightthey seem to have melted in the stomach and be absorbed immediately. With a potatoaccompaniment slimy, I eat 12 or 13 bowls of rice once. But after an hour, I do notfeel anything in my stomach. This is extremely satisfying for me. But this is not ayouth achievement, this is now where I have 54 years. However, with such a large

Page 32: Harumitsu Hida1.pdf

capacity digestion, I only eat little practice because little food enough for me ... If Iwrote it a little vulgar, this is not to recommend to the readers, but only to tell whatstate I am. ".

more ... Already at that time, H. Hida leads a retired life by cultivating the land. Hewrote: "I am surrounded by the beauty of nature. I dressed in a judo hold soiled withearth, with a straw belt. What pleasure I have to lie down in the grass! Even when theday falls, I wish to withdraw my suit of sweaty work ... When night begins to fall, Iwash off with cold water windy cold north .... " The health and the surprising physicalstrength H. Hida went hand in hand with the diet he practiced spontaneously and inparallel to the practice of his method. Although excellent digestion, diet was simpleand ate little. Gradually, as he advanced in its method and its physical capacityincreased, spontaneously applied a diet consisting mainly vegetarian vegetables andbrown rice or wheat. He writes: "There are about twenty years, I felt like everyoneworld than a good meal equal good food. But my tastes and my needs wastransformed as the change in the state of my body. When, at the age of 18, I decidedto throw myself in this way, a sentence was deeply marked. "To lead a life healthy, it isessential to control his desires. ". I have always applied this idea to my diet ... Byreading stories on the preparation of boxers in action, I decided, too, to deprive me ofalcohol, tobacco, tea and cakes. I drink only water cool ... I admit that the deprivationof the things that I love was painful at first, but I did it to win the battle of life I wasleading ... During practice, I realized what is necessary and what is harmful for life ... Istarted to like simple foods. Brown rice mixed with corn, salad and candied miso soupis a meal that I love the most. I do not like good food. Above all, I do not love theluxurious western cuisines, heavy ... Even when traveling, when I stay at the hotel, Iusually get up at 3 am and sometimes 2 hours. I shower, I wake up with buckets of icewater, and I never fail to make a complete set of my exercises. I usually eat a ricebowl in the morning, at noon and three bowls on two evenings. Meanwhile, Isometimes eat fruit, not something else ... I do not eat eggs, milk, fish, or meat. Thisdiet food allows me to have a clear mind and filling force my body. I know from myexperience, it is wrong to think that you should eat foods rich and complex to supplythe energy vital ... I do not allow that we serve at my table foods that negatively affectlife such as sake, whiskey, steak chops, cakes. . " The method of H. Hida therefore notlimited to a series of exercises physical, it also includes a diet: mainly brown rice andvegetables. Towards the end of his life, he even eat the uncooked brown rice, soakingit in water and absolutely refusing animal proteins. We have also seen that exceptionalsocial occasions, he experiences it can not damage eat a wide variety of foods. In thescheme follows, we can distinguish two phases. Any first in the context of a generalascetic attitude, he deprives himself of certain foods that it deems detrimental tohealth. Then he trusts his taste and feel of a body in which he trusts to choose theirfood. So it is spontaneously follows a diet very strict. It is the depth of the taste ofeach food from this frugal food without it being hidden by the condiments and explainsthat he finds great pleasure in the taste of the food. This attitude is shared by different

methods research to go deep experience. Let's go back to June 18, 1922, the day H.Hida was the experience that changed its research. Let us read his story: "Absorbed inmy exercises, I felt suddenly a big frightening power that sprang from the center ofthe body located between the pelvis and abdomen. I had the impression that this forcehas crossed the floor, entered the earth, reached the center of the earth, then crossedto infinity of the universe ... Filled with joy, I made the following year. When I put mypowerful right foot on the floor with a kiai, I heard a thud. What what happened? I sawa hole in the shape of my foot in a solid piece of 2.5 cm thick. A second time, then athird time, I did the same exercise. On each trial, my foot across the board thatoffered no resistance. In the fourth trial, across the board, my foot broke the supportwood 12 cm thick clearly marking the shape of the heel. What does that mean?Afterwards, I looked carefully for what reason such force had sprung ... I understoodthat with this approach, crossing difficulties, I had managed to win the final. I hadfound a way to strengthen the body and mind .... " This experience marked a radicalchange and it proves the correctness of his approach. From that day, he goes withconviction systematize experiences to provide a method. Developing and implementinghis method, he develops his physical and mental abilities to a degree quite surprising. The kata in the Hida method Building on its achievements, H. Hida consists of a seriesof exercises in the form of kata. Seeking to reduce the time required for daily exercise,he developed a comprehensive series of exercises he thinks that ten minutes can beenough to achieve it. Ten years later, he wrote: "I do not need that 40 seconds toperform the gestures of my twenty year to bring out a . great energy center of thebody " But it is not necessary to understand the expression of this period regardless ofthe manner of living; Indeed, the meaning of this expression is that somehow the fewminutesd'exercice enough to guide the way of life during the day because the physicsof the body of the center will be correctly set state running. Attention is awake so thatthe activities of the day are physically transformed into reinforcing elements andparticipate in development of the body. The diet of H. Hida spontaneously emergedfrom that way of life. The " way of the sacred center "of H. Hida implies learning to livewith posture and correct attitude of the body that cause the correctness of the mind. Itis very difficult to present kata developed by H. Hida by writing because, firstly thetranslation of his text contains complex expressions that require a large number ofappendices and notes and, secondly, as you know, it is extremely difficult to make itunderstandable posture and movements only in words. I will just present the outline ofbasic exercises. The kata of Hida method The fundamental exercise in two parts onthe top and lower body. It uses an iron bar 2.5kg and 70cm long. The weight of thebar makes the basis of sensation, but it can just as easily be exercised empty hand, when captured sensation base. This is to strengthen the muscles and raising portionsof the upper and lower body still related to the lower abdomen (Tanden) and with thehelp of breathing. In all exercises, H. Hida emphasizes the position of the center line ofthe body and the strength of concentration at the midpoint of the body. The strengthof the center of the body must always exceed the strength of the other parties: that is

Page 39: Harumitsu Hida1.pdf

3/3/2015 Harumitsu Hida

http://archivageovdt.forumotions.in/t179harumitsuhida 39/84

to say that if you exercise the muscles of the legs or arms, the force you use thereshould be 8 or 9, while the center is 10. Note that this is a principle that applies to anykind of physical exercise. When exercising, you breathe concentrating the force in theTanden and you hold the breath for three seconds. This form of breathing creates thevelocity in each year ... He composed a series of basic kata that strengthen the 10major muscles from the bottom of the body and dynamic kata which uses aconcentrated breathing, kiai to strengthen those muscles. He also composed kata iscarried out sitting on a chair to facilitate the practice of those who work in offices. Hedeveloped several breathing exercises that aim to strengthen the body. He trainedkata Battojutsu (drawing the sword) from these principles ... In all those years, Idiscern the following characteristics. A large body relaxation that can make the bodypermeable gravity which is a attraction towards the center of the earth. The center lineof the body should face the center of the Earth from your own body center. It is notenough not to locate the Tanden or center of the body, but it is necessary that thecenter line of the body is actualized through the center. The key is the correct positionof the body with which you galvanisez strength in central zone by means of abreathing concentrated. This allows to produce an acceleration of movement andincreased energy. This method is strictly physical at first, but you can actually achieveit in you being in a certain mental state. By practicing " pure "physically, you will findthat you have exercised" spiritually ". This was demonstrated H. Hida himself. Lookingfor health, on the day he managed to get a beautiful body, it had acquired an amazingmental capacity. The effectiveness and difficulty of this method are there. Difficulty, forby practicing on concrete elements of your body, you realize how difficult it is topractice "pure" physically. Which was defined as "purely physical" becomessynonymous with "purely mental. " This will become clear by reading the appreciationof H. Hida on the practice of zazen. I hope this explanation will help close theguidelines of this method. An application of the method to the Hida martial artThe study of the Hida method first introduced me, or has confirmed the elementsfollowing martial art that I practice. I do not mention here the energy sensations. Aprinciple of movement Generally the ability to move is assigned exclusively to thestrength of the lower body. By comparing this method of martial arts that I practice, Idiscovered another principle of displacement. The most striking shift is that of asprinter. With each stride, it gives a powerful blow to the ground with his leg to propelhis body forward. This is the movement by the propulsion. In modern kendo, the sametype of capability is required to make a quick strike by advancing the body. Themovement made following this principle has the undeniable merit of being easy tounderstand, so spontaneously apply. It has a default capacity will decrease aroundthirty; a sprinter runs best at 25 to 35 years. The technique of motion in classical artof kenjutsu KaishinRyu is based on another principle which converges with that of theHida method. I call the principle of immersion. The Hida method aims to strengthenthe real center of the body. We must first learn to locate and then to raise. Takeproper posture on the principle of H. Hida allows to experience the sensation of having

Page 40: Harumitsu Hida1.pdf

a center. This method stimulates and then strengthen the center of the body throughexercises that aim to connect it to each of the major muscles, building on a breathinvigorating. The contraction of the lower abdomen should be balanced with that of thecorresponding dorsal part. Each of the exercises in this method encourages us toapproach the earth and not us away. This principle is perfectly realized in thedisplacement technique characteristic of the Kaishinryu school called "method whereone uses not the strength of the feet "(No. musoku ho). This is you move leavingguided by lowering the center of gravity according to gravity. Instead of propelling thebody by giving violent kick on earth, you take away the tension of the legs, whichtakes you back to the land and head this energy in the direction you want to go with aparticular attention to the centerline of your body. Different body techniquesaccompanying the development of this movement to produce the speed and strengthof the blazing sword. In another sword school we call this principle "feet of water bird"(mizudori no ashi). In Shotokai karate school, a movement based on a similar principlewas found by Mr. Egami who called him "the way to approach the earth "(shukuchiho). In all these movements, instead of giving a blow to the ground, you move thebody by relaxing the muscles of the legs and, approaching you from the ground, whichis actually very technical, as this is going to against the usual reflex.

more ... Clear the start of the movement

's undeniable merit of this type of displacement from the standpoint art martial involves firstly not express the start of the movement, which is essential in fighting technique. Although you can move with great speed, if you previously expressing a gesture startup, so small it is, your movement loses its effectiveness technique. By cons, even if your movement is not very fast appearance, if there is no prior term started, it can

be quick technical point of view. Because what we see, or rather what we feel and what we react at the time of the fight, it's not a pure and simple movement, but a gesture accompanied by the will of the individual. Act after seeing a technical trigger is already falling behind, we must act in relation to the movement of the will of the opponent to advance his actions. That is why in all Japanese sword schools, it seeks "strike nonthinking." In the traditional learning of fighting technique, therefore, is essential to find a way to erase the expression of the will (Kehai Kesu o) in the gesture. While it is important to learn to overwhelm the opponent or repel an emanation of your will (ki Offensive), it is equally important to learn how to act in erasing any expression of will in the technical implementation. This second aspect of ki's work is often overlooked when discussing labor ki martial art. This is the objective of the technical musoku. speed Conservation The third important aspect of this principle is the abilityto maintain speed in movement in aging. Since the principle of not using force legs topropel the body, this type of movement keeps the speed of execution and technicalbasis for the practice of an art longterm martial. This contrasts sharply with themodern kendo where there are a large number of accidents rupture of the Achillestendon, nicknamed "kendo disease" because of the muscle force required for an attackmove. We can perceive a change kendo technique compared to the traditional form ofthe sword of kenjutsu that employs techniques where the body of principle is different. In all traditional schools of kenjutsu technique is always conceived in relation to thecenterline of the body as well in attack and defense with various postures. It is not bycoincidence that most of the art of the sword is the Hida method. Because H. Hidastudied martial arts, parallel to Western medicine, to found his method. In its basickata, H. Hida emphasizes execution speed that a tonic effect. The speed is achieved byimmersion in gravity and breathing. In martial arts, this aspect is linked to the pipelineof physical force, as it is to use gravity to move and to execute a technique. By usingthe weight of your body in the most rational way to be effective, it is concentrated inevery punch and foot. This is an aspect that is often said, but there are qualitydifferences. Technical efficiency resulting from this principle is inseparably linked to thedeletion of the start of the movement. The Tanden, hinge body and mind. Correctposture and tension placed in this area stimulate the spine from its bottom. Thisstimulation she has effects on the brain? We have seen that H. Hida reached a capacityof extraordinary memory. According to one of his students "he recited flawlessly allthat was asked, as if he took out a book from his library and read it. ". About thiscapacity H. Hida said, "You too, you store all your experiences, but only you can notclassify and find your way ... just select a drawer in which I have filed memory. ". If aphysical exercise, putting the emphasis on strengthening the Tanden or body of thecenter, a person succeeds in improving surprisingly certain mental functions, this

assumption seems not meaningless. Note that H. Hida indicates that strengthen theTanden is not enough, although a strengthened properly. Documents on Japanesesword schools I consulted to write my thesis on Miyamoto Musashi (2) allowed me tolocate its exact contribution to the art of Japanese sword. At the same time I haveseen a convergence point between the method of the School of Nenryu sword and theHida. I have been aware of the characteristics of the school Nenryu by search MonjûrôMorita (18891978), master of kendo who developed a hypothesis about the technicaltraining of Musashi. Monjûrô Morita, renowned master of kendo, involves the practiceof kendo when he has reached a high level, 5th dan, and formed a large number ofkendoka. It is in a deadlock and discovers that one of his main challenges is thesensation of imbalance energy he feels when he wields the sword holding it with bothhands. According to his hypothesis, Musashi, wielding a sword in each hand, hadsolved this problem very young we meet in kendo which is generally wields a swordalone holding it with both hands. After going through a difficult period, it is by studyingMusashi Mr. Morita finally found a satisfactory way in kendo and began to follow it; hewas then 60 years old. According to Mr. Morita, Musashi was not a selftaught as isthought generally and received his father's strict teaching the art of the sword. Hisschool of the two swords is development. The Musashi grandfather would, he said, wasinfluenced by the school Nenryu and have incorporated this influence in the art of thesword of the family, What the Nenryu school? The founder of the Nenryu schoolwas the Jion Buddhist monk, born about 1350. According to the documents survived tothe present day, he entered a Buddhist temple at the age of 7 years and 10 years, inhis introduction to Buddhist Mount Kurama in Kyoto, he received a teaching secret ofart the sword. At 16, he stayed at Jufukuji temple in Kamakura where he receivedesoteric teaching of Eiyū monk. Mr. Morita in the Nenryu school the ultimatetechnique called " Miraï ", which means" the swordsmanship of the future. " This refersto the state of the adept reached the ability to guess correctly the act of his opponentand predict what will happen in the future. Mr. Morita wrote: "The Miraïki (Written onthe art of the sword is carried by knowing the future) was written by Ujimuné, the 7thJion successor at the head of the Nenryu school. The technique of "Miraï" allows a fanof fighting with remarkable perceptual acuity and to be particularly effective, since it isknown to provide the act of his opponent. This art has been practiced also byMiyamoto Musashi and by Futabayama (modern sumo wrestler who holds the record ofhaving scored 69 consecutive wins). . " To prove the capabilities acquired through thepractice of Nenryu school, Mr. Monta quotes a text of the eighteenth century onSadataka Higuchi, 23 ° successor Jion: "Sadataka is aged 91 years. Here are hiswords: "My art has long remained poor. I did not understand most of the school. It isonly 70 years old that I realized something. Continuing training, I realized anotherthing to 90 years. And since then I know wield the sword with ease and my swordceased to be poor ... ". " Mr. Morita wrote: "This is the acquisition of a broaderperceptive capacity through training of the school. ". For this ability, you have topractice a technique particularly striking at this school, which is a "secret".

on .... What is the secret? Mr. Morita this secret in one sentence: "to strike with armoutstretched left. " Usually when struck with a sword, is unfolded his arms, while hemust strike keeping arms straight from the beginning to the end, especially the leftarm. This requires a way to hit particular body technique where each stroke productionstimulates an area of the lower abdomen and stronger. Mr. Morita advance the mostaudacious hypothesis that this strengthening and these stimuli permanent transmittedthrough the spinal cord develop an area of the brain which man has lost the use.

Proper learning stroke technique enables this area thus increasing the forecastingcapabilities. This is why this technique is the main secret of the Nenryu school. Afinding is consistent with the hypothesis of Mr. Morita; in the texts on the "secret"transmission of Esoteric Buddhism is an education to develop visual and auditorymemory. This teaching involves special exercises of the lower part of the belly. Thecomparison is even more interesting that the founder of the Nenryu school is aBuddhist monk. In reading the genealogy of the saber schools established by Mr.Morita, I learned that KaishinRyu school j 'have quoted above also comes from theNenryu school. Indeed, without the call "secret", this school offers, too, the majorfocus on the striking sword with outstretched arms. Teaching corresponds perfectly tothat described in the transmission of Nenryu. High accuracy is sought in the exerciseof "suburi" (sword strikes in vacuum), which is very difficult. I study the sword of thisschool for only six years and more I advance "suburi", the more I feel like plunginginto a deep abyss. I would add that moving the "musoku" I spoke above, requires thedevelopment of the sensations of the line central body and Tanden. By that movementjoined the exercise of "suburi." Thus we can find points of convergence between themethod Hida (path of sacred center) and one of the secrets of the transmission of aJapanese sword school. _________________ Sε wo werε fi na wo san kɔfa has yenkyi

of the secret of some schools. But this hypothesis remains to be tested scientifically. Insaber schools, the transmission was veiled, having to both transmit to the chosensuccessors and hide from the eyes of competitors. The authorization to transmit theteaching of the school Nenryu was, according to the time of use, limited to one personin a province. If another person was receiving, she had to move to another province. The double game of transmitting at the same time to hide spawned many hoaxes. If Ihad not read the work of M. Morita, I shall not have thought that the exercise of"suburi" I do regularly could have a purpose other than to gain speed, accuracy andforce, and that this objective is to stimulate and strengthen the center of the body andmay also improve the perception. As soon as I started to do this exercise in theknowledge, quality of work has changed and I found it great similarity with the Hidamethod I practice in parallel. It is through reading Mr. Morita I could open myself tothis sensitivity, because the transmission is sometimes made so that the practitionerturns away from the main long as it does not receive the necessary information, usually given orally. I admit that this discovery gave me satisfaction because it ra alsoclarified some obscure points of the method of da cheng chuan. Noting that thedifferent methods that I study converge, I have the strong feeling that the work allowsone to move in the other and I have the feeling that they refer to the same principle.H. Hida tried to present clearly in his works a discovery, and it touched in some way bysecret contents of the saber schools. But even if he had explained in his works, themethod to assimilate is not easy, that's what he says emphatically. Because someconditions are required to master his method: rigor, sincerity, diligence, purity of mind(in his words) ... To strengthen the body's center of Hida method, it is necessary toreach a general relaxation of the body and, against this background, to show aparticular muscle tension in the lower abdomen and in the part corresponding ridge. We also understand why the study of the arts martial H. Hida helped to form hismethod. He caught the essence of the principle of the body wanted in budo, but hisconcern was not to become strong by fighting against opponents, but to overcome hisphysical weakness which implied a weak mind. Personally, I am more attracted by thismethod and its mindset that by the methods that seek to achieve efficiency bydeliberately lying in a state of madness. This is probably due also to the social andhistorical time. The criticism of the sport by H. Hida Going back to the writings ofH. Hida: "The sports top athletes are not always in good health and sometimes theydie very young. What this is it due ? I am not speaking of those who neglect theirlifestyle. It happens that even those who train seriously and lead healthy lives havehealth problems. This is mainly because they lack training method of strengthening thebody's center and the central line is not present in their bodies. Which produces homean imbalance between the internal organs and also a disproportion between thecomponent forces and the strength of center body and subjected to excessive shocks. In other words, in many cases, the training method does not reinforce the mostimportant, the strength of the body of the center, which causes energy imbalances. Itseeks to strengthen the paltry neglecting the basics. If one is seeking a major effort in

Page 57: Harumitsu Hida1.pdf

http://archivageovdt.forumotions.in/t179harumitsuhida 57/84

this state, organs, viscera and brain also suffer negative effects. The posture correctlyformed by the forces of the lower abdomen and those of the back of the pelvis helpsprotect the nervous system and all organs. My internal organs and my guts areprotected negative vibrations as if they were protected by a steel barrel sacred. Therefore, regardless of the violence with which I train in the dojo, my breathing iscalm like I could not breathe and my vision remains clear and wide. It is interesting tonote that without a change in my heartbeat. Overall, using the real strength plant, thenotions of excess and overwork disappear ... Since I understood clearly, I appliedviolence and speed the execution of my method and I recorded net development ofmuscle strength and thus, the mind and actions have gained speed, which allowed meto shorten the duration of the exercise ... Excess and overwork are not matters ofdegree and amount of force used, but a question of balance between the center andthe rest of the body. If the central force is greater than that of others, there is noproblem .... " The difficulties of Hida method problems and difficulties of thismethod include that the results and H. exploits Hida exceed the range of the ordinaryand 'difficult to explain affect a field, although it is explained in logical and scientificterms. During the lifetime of H. Hida, his method has attracted much attention andmany physicians, scientists and senior officials of the Government vouched for theauthenticity and value of his method. However, this has not initiated a scientific studysystematically. I think he touched a kind of taboo of science. Otherwise, why is he hasnot been followed up by scientists of the case of H. Hida in Japan? This is due probablyto Japan's commitment to a policy of war and also to the fact that the application ofthis method reached an area where spiritual science has not so much exploration tools. The scientists sometimes seem to prefer to be safe in excluding exceptional cases asnonexistent or false. In fact, the passage of time, H. Hida experiences are notverifiable ; we can say that they never existed. Mr. Morita's research is interesting, butfew kendokas studying. Why? If kendoka takes seriously its hypothesis and scientificworks, it will force him to put a questioning of modern kendo techniques. Who daresto? But the works of M. Morita and remain open possibilities.

Zen and the Hida method

H. Hida wrote that from the moment he manages to control the center of his body, the state of his body and his mind is the one sought in Zen. He meets and followers of Zen master. Here's what he said: "One day, through my friend the monk Asaka, ascore of Zen monks came to see me. At their request, I gave an explanation of therelationship between the strength of the center and Zen. They were all moved by myspeech ... I asked my turn: " Can you show me your zazen? ". They immediatelyaccepted my request and took the meditation posture in zazen. In the looking, I wassurprised because none sat resting on its true center. I told them: "With this way ofdoing this zazen, you do not have an empty chest or light headed. You can not enterthe state of emptiness and nonthought, is not it? ". I posed the same question to eachmonk. All told me honestly that they could not. I thought that to achieve the status oftrue center by Zen, you had to practice it in totally investing for 20 or 30 years. So Iwanted to know how a true master practice zazen ... My older brother told me lida Zenmaster. I paid him a visit and asked to instruct me in zazen ... He took the position ofzazen, and I sat in front of him, looking at him with the intention of going to the backof his mind . Slightly, the bust of the master is moved up to the moment when thecenter of gravity and support center of his body are superimposed. Just then, his bodycame to rest like a mountain. There was no flaw in his posture. It was really amazing!I was deeply moved to see before me the result of 40 years of Zen ... I welcomeddeeply bowed his head and said: "I very well understand, thank you. I want to showyou some exercises of my method that aims to strengthen the body. ". The masterwent to get his disciples, saying: "It would be a shame to be the one to look at you. . "

I sat in my way and the moment I hit my knees, he said, "This is like a sword that canslay without departing from its scabbard, he clings on sky and its blade is cold. ". ThenI took my posture and quietly filling force the sacred center, with piercing eyes. Theteacher looked at me with a serious expression leaning the body forward and haspushed several times an exclamation. When I finished, he said : "This is exactly themerger with the track. The living way which never die. It is not a method of goodhealth, because health is fatal, while yours is the way everlasting. The true mobile zen,zen through exercise ... It is necessary absolutely that you send your written method. It is a treasure for humanity ... It's a shame that you are always in season. . " I toldhim: "I do not intend to transmit. I do not want to be the master of person I want tohave no disciple. So I have no dojo teaching or association. Today, I hardly do moreconferences. I am in this line of research for over 30 years and during that time, Itaught two years only on the request of Dr. Kato ... ". We talked as if we were walkingin a valley along the course of a stream, as well as white clouds moving in the sky. Ourconversation we sometimes gave the impression to go on the huge white expanse ofthe North Pole. I deeply loved the old Master and I also knew that he loved me ... Ondeparture, the Master accompanied me to walk the long way to the bus station. Hesaid: "Thank you for your visit, I learned a lot. Hello to your brother. And especially Iawait your next visit. ". I answered, "Master, we shall never meet again ever. I wishyou good health. ". "To you, then. . " The difficulty of transmission for H. Hida, practicing his method has become the search for truth in his life. That is why herecommended it to anyone, and he refused more often to teach to those who ask him.He seems to have written his works in order to leave traces of his research and totestify to the facts that others can possibly benefit from his discoveries. He had a gapwith respect to the direct transmission. He writes: "I have never recommended thepractice of myself method, or even any member of my family. I practice every morningin a corner of the house and no one in my family practice my method ... Why is it thatI do not recommend it to anyone, why is it that I do not teach such a course ofHappiness? Because in this way, no one can reach the goal, if it does not begin with aburning passion that springs from itself. I do not want to teach it to those who do noteven go halfway. I know we can criticize my attitude. I also know that it is regrettablenot to apply this well to different positive goals, but when I understood the difficultyand depth that will be opened by understanding the sacred center, I lost all desire tocommunicate it to others. Each person has in it a universe around the body center. However it should be the qualities and efforts precisely headed approach to quickenthe treasure of life. Even if one has talent, no stress this treasure will not shine. So themost important is one thing: is there or not capable of driving the spirit to continuethis effort in a right direction? Without this nothing is valid (...) Colonel X is a closefriend. He asked me to teach him my method. I replied, "No, this is not possible, because you do not have provisions for this method. ". What made us laugh ... Thestaff report and the communication of the method are two separate things. Therefore, even a friend, even my family, I can not pass it, without the person demonstrates the

Page 63: Harumitsu Hida1.pdf

required provisions ... Thus I entered alone in the path of the sacred center to continuethis research, I refused any other public or private profession, and I have never trainedgroup ... It's heaven is my master and I study through nature, I walk on the path ofsacred center; my pleasure is the job of the earth and frugal food. " From the diet hedesigned spontaneously in the practice of his method, H. Hida establishes a healingmethod dietary called "TenshinRyoho". It consists mainly make simple meals brownrice or wheat with vegetables and fresh water, sunbathing and perform exercisesstrengthen the sacred center. The strengthening and treatment He writes: "Allkinds diseases stem from the fact of going against the natural way. That's why whenyou get sick, it is necessary to rest with rigor and accumulate energy that activates thenatural healing abilities of man. For this, we must avoid unnatural effort of healing andapply a natural diet. In other words, eat light vegetables and lie down quietly. This isenough to trigger capabilities natural healing ... Although all living beings havereceived from heaven a selfhealing capabilities and the animals and plants benefitfully, man, the king of creation only do not know benefit because of devices to which itis accustomed to use. What irony! The key is to enhance the ability of selfhealing thatGod has already given us ... " However, the method "TenshinRyoho" is difficult to beapplied by everyone, since it requires a certain strength of mind to eliminate thetechniques and remedies to which we are so accustomed. For example, H. Hida said"pain in itself is not dangerous. It is a sign that catches your eye to guide you towardhealing. It is therefore not stifle it. ". But there are unbearable pain. Can claim to beable to cope with the pain regardless of the degree? In some cases, morphine is it nota solution? Yet H. Hida refuses solutions artificial. As part where the patients accept hisapproach, the Hida method had irrefutable success. Another more difficult fundamentalto the application of his method is that it comes finally to the practice of a philosophythat affects the way to live in its entirety. Everyone is not willing. As in his case, thismethod is more easily accepted by those who are in a desperate situation, with noprospect of life with awareness of being at the lowest level of vitality.

H. Hida wrote: "Among the patients I cared for, here is a case that I was deeplymoved. This is a young doctor who was educated at the University of Tokyo where hefirst came out. Because of overwork, he was suffering from tuberculosis; against thisbackground, are grafted to many diseases: valvular insufficiency, neuralgia, liverdisease, beriberi; in addition, it has a hookworm. He experienced a shock violentpsychological death of his only son and lost hearing the left and to the right eye. Hisdigestive system is very weak ... Those who, after almostdied, have been cured by the application of such a method have learned to live again.A profound questioning of life is present in this process, as did H. Hida, the fightagainst the disease can give them a unique opportunity to build their lives through theapplication of a method. From this point of view, those for whom good health is anormal state, have probably struggled to fully accept such an approach. For example,if you've never had digestive problems with your usual food, how and why do you needto change your habits? If H. Hida had normal health since childhood, it would perhapsnot gone that far because it would not have been necessary. The consciousness ofbeing sick, to be near death, and the precariousness of existence experienced by H.Hida since childhood did they not, to some extent, a guarantee of perseverance andthe austerity made to apply his method and rebuild his life? In any case, the method oftreatment of H. Hida seems to have been beneficial mainly for those who haveexperienced the despair. This is something they have in common with the experienceby H. Hida during his childhood. A lone Action After the age of 50 years, H. Hidaoften lives away from society. He writes: "In the mountains where I live, no one visitsme. Only in the silence, I face the sky, walking on the center lane sacred. No one canaccompany me in this lonely journey through the universe, I can not face any but theJapanese company was advancing towards the Second War World. H. Hida, passionateman with a sense of justice very developed, could afford to live as a hermit. He beganto agree to give lectures and demonstrations of his method. For him, strengthening thebody by the search for the sacred center had to make a social dimension. He began to

turn for Japan avoids going to war against the United States from the start of the war, with its exceptional sharpness, H. Hida predicted defeat inevitable Japan. He could notfeel alone because it also provided that this war would impose enormous sacrifices inthe entire Japanese population. He could not find meaningful positive looking towardsthe sacred center. "What helps me to achieve extraordinary health and an exceptionalability to live in a world apart? ". This consciousness was so strong that he gave up thepractice of his method he had never failed in 43 years. I usually weighed 70 kgand now I weigh less than 50 kg. According to the request of a young soldier, when Istarted writing a sentence, I wrote hardly a word, while I had pain in the heart, whichkept me writing ... I felt at the beginning my feet like those of a stranger even when Iwas walking. This paralysis began to rise up and when it reaches the stomach andbreasts, my pace heart became very irregular. He writes: "On the night of February 11, 1944, I took out mysword I had hidden in the closet. I wrote a letter Tojo on which I watered my blood.Just when I was about to plant the sword in the belly, image stopped me in mygesture. If I die here in this way, this piece is full of blood, which will interfere with myfamily terribly ... I stopped taking this solution. ". The revival Gradually his healthimproves and the war ends with the consequences had foreseen H. Hida. In thiscondition, he decides to start the practice of his method. He writes: "I had written thusfar several books in which I presented the rational method, which were all highlyappreciated by scientists. However, I am suffering from a serious illness and I just sawthe body of the skin to the bone. Is this occurred only because I received a violentblow on the chest and I was deeply tormented? Is it that there was not a serious flawin the method I established ? ... Indeed, when paralysis has reached me towards thebelly, I had pain that stifled breathing due to a contraction of the abdominal musclesand diaphragm I had reinforced especially by my method. If there is a negativerelationship in my method, it is essential that ... When I published my condition hasimproved, I started again practicing my method for this reason. . " Thus H. Hida find areason to put into practice his method in society after the war. He wrote: "I couldprove the correctness of my method of the center lane sacred ... Aujourd ay I have 72years and my physical condition goes beyond that of a young guy. I have seen my fairvalue method. On September 4, 1955, I received a visit from the former Conte Ichijoand the son of former General Yamamoto; I showed some kata. I projected my bodyon the floor and rolling on the ground, I unsheathed a long sword ... At the relaxedstate, my arm is similar to the melted butter and when I contracts, it becomes similarto steel ; touching in Mr. Ichijo gasped. This is the state of the body to 72 years ... Forsome years I finally understood the essence of the way of the sacred center. . "Method and belief continue reading the text of H. Hida: "Musashi wrote:" Arrived atfifty, I found myself naturally in the way of strategy. Since that day, I saw no need toseek the path further. When I apply the result of the strategy in the way of variousarts and crafts, I have no need to master in any field. ". This is a state attained byMusashi in the way of the sword. I reached, too, at the age of 66, a state that is

identified with a universal principle. This was after a thousand days of practice insearch of a deep emptiness ... During those thousand days, I have almost no sleep, yet I felt no fatigue. This ability was initiated daily by ten seconds of exercise to fillforce center sacred. I taste every day a fresh vitality of their youth, with muscles full ofenergy, before this, I have only myself to congratulate the effectiveness of thismethod. One can say that I'm pretentious, or that I'm just aware of my condition. Butin fact, in the deep void, nothing matters now ... I have nothing to look for in lifebecause I have reached a deep emptiness where I stand in front of God ... So I amcertain to have reached the final stage of the search for the center channel. The veryexistence is that of the God before whom all values social and human disappear. . "Starting from the physical practice, the thought of H. Hida becomes a belief. In 1953,H. Hida founded the "Circle of teaching the universal ethic way "that is declared asreligious group.

He writes: "I place the belief after a scientific research. A true belief must be based ona mathematical rigor. I see the rigor in the order of physical science by reachingdirectly the subtlety of the universal principle with my mind. I found that in thephysical and spiritual life is a law rigorously, which seems to be managed by the rigorof divine figures. I call it "the ethical course of the universe. ". " It was during thedemonstrations that circle H. Hida performs various demonstrations that go beyond theordinary. Recall the testimony of B. Kuriyama I presented above (page 2). Boasting anunrivaled health and physical, H. Hida receives various followers of budo and sumowrestlers who recognize their defeat. But we do not know exactly in what form theclashes took place. In all cases the fight was not his concern. The voluntary death abook written by one of his close recounts the life of H. Hida. Towards the end of hislife, it begins to have a premonition of the future of humanity and provides a desperatedegradation of the world. What he felt was not specified, but this vision is sufficientlydecisive to renounce life. From the beginning of July 1956 Harumitsu Hida completelystops feeding. His daughter Kazuko Hida wrote: "Father stopped eating for a monthand a half. For ten days he takes a few drops of water. Single mother for permission toenter her room and they converse in writing .... " H. Hida himself wrote: "On July 22,my mother cried desperately in the room next door , "I beg you, do not die before me!". This voice shook my decision to walk the path that leads directly to death. I amtormented by a sense of despair ... My disease may seem silly to some. They mustthink about whether they really passionate sense of justice and love for humanity. . "On August 24, after 49 days of fasting, he ceases to live. He was then 72 years and 8months. I hope I have been able to communicate a fragment of the passionate life of aman who went very far in the search for life. His method goes far beyond the searchfor efficiency in combat. It seems to me to touch the nodal point of the martial artsmethod and requires further study. I hope to have the opportunity to provide moredetail Hida method. Thinking about Hida method Most of those who practice amartial art or combat sport have initial motivation "to become strong." If some want tolearn how to fight, others want to better defend themselves or feel safe. Advancing inpractice motivation changes as they discover the various fields they did not see at first,as in climbing a mountain, we see the landscape and perspective change according to

the level where you are. According personality and his achievements, developments inthe long martial way varies. Some persevere in the physical practice, others areturning to methods known as "internal" or qi gong. Happy are those who find lastingsatisfaction. With my limited experience, I can say that there are a lot of methods, thevalue of some of them is questionable, and many tend to be mystical practice. TheHida method is based purely on the physical exercise. By going to the "purely"physical, it reaches a "psychic" field or " spiritual. " H. Hida eventually melt his methodin a belief. When practicing a physical method becomes how to live with a person, itoften seems to be confused with belief. Mr. Ueshiba lyrics on aikido is notcomprehensible if we do not ourselves in the dimension of his religious practice. G.Funakoshi said he must go to the point where karate becomes your religion. You couldsay in a way that their approach starting from a physical method has come to includethe spiritual realm. But it is necessary to see that such a classification is due to aninterpretation that facilitates Cartesian ranking methods. In the mind of H. Hidaphysical practice implies that of the mind. He enrolled there in the Japanese tradition, when a physical practice reached a certain level of depth, it involves a spiritualcontent. In this perspective, is it possible to separate a projection of the mind of areligious belief? This seems to be an objective of the development of modern plant andmethods.

Afterword

I presented two methods. The dà cheng chuan and Hida method they have in common the fact that their application is, in some way, to recreate yourself. Each forms during its development. Practicing martial arts method involves a more or less radical evolution of the person. With these two methods, it would be useless to try to learn only the aspect of practical utility because it involves selfchange. You can examine the methodscientifically as an observer. In this case, you can not apply it to your body becausethis type of physical practice involves a practice whole person; This is shown so clearlyH. Hida. If you say, "I am myself, I will not change and I study it pleases me, "I thinkyou're wrong from the start. For it you think studying and learning is only the emptyshell of a method. It is as if you did not understand after reading that says H. Hida. Isay this because this seems easier in culture Japanese than in European cultures. It isprecisely a problem I am having with my French students. It seems sometimes theypractice martial arts without wanting to change their way of being. If they changed

their ego would it upset? Is the ego so rigidly constructed so fragile that it can notundergo a change? Implicitly, for them it is outside that must change, not themselves. However, I am convinced that the Budo is the way of selfchange. Notes: 1 In theJapanese text H. Hida wrote 18 years according to the system of traditional calculationof the age in which there are one year of birth. On the use of non Japanese style, Itranslate this text according to the system usual today. 2 "Miyamoto Musashi Japanesesword master of the seventeenth century, the myth and reality " PhD in language andEastern civilization, University Paris VII in June 1993.
