PARENT OPINION SURVEY This week families of 70 students will have received an email inviting them to participate in our annual parent opinion survey. The email and link to a survey was sent to a random selection of parents, asking them to provide feedback on how they feel we are going. The sample size is about 10% of the school community which for CLG equates to the families of 70 students. In the survey, parents are asked to rate their level of agreement with a number of statements in a 5 pin scale ranging from strongly agree to strongly disagree. The survey window closes at the end of the term 3 school holidays. The survey is completely anonymous and provides really useful data. The survey is truly random so it is possible you may have received a similar survey request last year.

2020 ENROLMENT INTENTION FORM During this week of student led conferences, teachers in year R to 6 classes have sent home the 2020 Enrolment Intention Form. We send this form home annually asking you to indicate if your child will be returning to CLG in 2020. This information is critical to help us know how many students we will have and how many classes. We believe it is important for every student to have a supportive friendship in their 2020 class. If your child is returning in 2020, we ask parents and students to decide together who this supportive friend could be and record 2 or 3 nominations on the form. The names need to

be discussed at home and be an agreed decision between each student and their parents or carers. Please note: Any of the friends listed may be the only friend placed in their class. There is no priority order. Forms are due to be returned by next Wednesday September 25th to your child’s class teacher.

2020 PLACEMENT INFORMATION FORM We also offer parents and carers the option to further contribute to the class placement process. You are invited to provide relevant information for your child’s current class teacher/s to consider when placing students in a class for 2020. This information needs to be recorded on the 2020 Placement Information Form and returned to your child’s teacher/s. This form is available in 2 ways: 1) from the school office; 2) email [email protected] to request a copy be emailed back to you Providing this additional information is completely

optional, however please don’t assume that we will take into account information from previous years.

FUNDRAISING NEWS

WORKING BEE - SEPTEMBER 15th

A huge thanks to all the families from the Reade and Doolette buildings who took part in our Working Bee last Sunday 15th September. We shifted the Mt Everest of Mulch, pulled weeds and tidied the gardens around these buildings. Special thanks to our teachers Karen Hawkes, Tamra Waye and Nancy Elder, who came along and sweated along with us! The gardens got some much-needed attention and look absolutely wonderful. We're so grateful for all the hard work that everyone put in. In November we plan to have another Working Bee for the families with children in Mortlock and Grange buildings.

WHAT’S HAPPENING IN ROOM 20?

In Room 20 we weekly watch Behind the News – a great current affairs programme for kids. One of the stories recently was about whether we should change the design of the Australian flag to represent all Australians…

Here are some of the ideas we came up with:

Page 5: NEWSLETTERclgps.sa.edu.au/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/2019... · Harry played year 6/7 school football this year in a combined Cabra, Westbourne Park & CLG team. He was the only CLG

WHAT’S HAPPENING IN ROOM 16?

Room 16 Miss Neumeister’s Class

Showing the findings of our non-

fiction text scavenger hunt!

In literacy, we have been studying non-fiction texts. Miss Neumeister and Ms Craig (the literacy coach at the school) have been team teaching in these lessons. We have now started to create our own information reports!

Nivedh: “We have learned non-fiction text features. We

had to highlight the most important text. Then we sorted

the information into a graphic organizer. Then we wrote

descriptive paragraphs with our information.”

Room 16 has been participating in the

‘Premiers Be Active Challenge’!

We have also been trialling different feedback strategies in our classroom! For Maths, students have been given tasks to complete. As students are completing the task, the teacher directs students to numbered folders at the front of the room that provides feedback in relation to where they need to be,

and strategies to get there. Students have loved the lessons!

As part of the ‘Be Active’ challenge, we have joined up with Mrs Moncrieff’s class twice a week to participate in fitness stations. We have a balls skills, stamina and fun station, and students spend ten minutes at each station.

Asher: “We have been doing skipping, sit-ups, push-ups, planking,

jumping, balancing, running and building our stamina.”

.

Yashica:

“We have been

using Seesaw

to show what

we have been

learning to our

parents and

complete

tasks.”

WELL DONE HARRY!

SAPSASA ORIENTEERING RELAY CHAMPIONSHIPS

On Friday 13th September, Thomas B, Oliver B, Riley T, Jesse L, Liam A, Samuel C, Sam Z, Thomas T and Owen D

participated in the Orienteering Relay Championships at Bonython Park. The day was perfect for the event. All students

achieved their personal best times. Congratulations to Thomas B, Oliver B and Owen D who came 2nd in the primary

competition. They all have a silver medal to treasure. A big thank you to Meagan Bain who helped with transport and

supervision. Des Norman also popped in to support our teams. Our school is a member of the Tjuringa team so all

students run in any of the orienteering events for free. If you enjoy the sport, please make use of the summer urban series

which starts in November, on Friday evenings. Program out soon, check website. https://sa.orienteering.asn.au/

Harry played year 6/7 school football this year in a combined Cabra, Westbourne Park

& CLG team. He was the only CLG representative.

On September 4th, West Adelaide Football Club hosted a presentation night for the 8

ASS CELEBRATIONS & MEDALION PRESENTATIONS

On Saturday the 31st of August the After School Sports Netball teams had their medallion presentations. It was a great morning of celebrating their achievements throughout the year. It was also an opportunity to thank Brooke and Elisa who have been netball coordinators for the last few years. They have decided to take a step back and give some other amazing parents the opportunity to coordinate the netball program.

Congratulations Team!!

Happy basketballing!

Congratulations Henry!!

A great effort Ben!!

Softball, cricket and basketball will be continuing in Term 4. A big thank you to Tim Letcher (cricket) and Steven Ashley (softball) who are the coordinators. Basketballers who handed in their tops over the winter break can collect a top from Jan Marie in the mornings before school in readiness for the competition next term.

Next year is fast approaching. Nomination forms for interested students who want to play cricket, softball, basketball, netball, soccer and football are now open. Please sign in so that our teams can be organised in plenty of time for next years competition. If you have any questions or queries please email Mrs Boothey.
