We use the NARIC system to obtain international qualification equivalencies.In addition to your academic qualifications, we also require evidence of yourEnglish language proficiency. We ask for a minimum score of 6.0 in the IELTS orTOEFL 550; We consider other evidence of English language proficiency.

The Hull College Group also accepts mature students with relevant workexperience as well as students wishing to transfer to the UK to complete theirstudies.

School of Professional Development,Education & Business The range of Business and Professional courses offered includes Foundation Degrees,which form the basis for further study at Degree level including BA (Hons) Degrees.

The Foundation Degree integrates academic and work based learning. The Programmeis designed in partnership with employers and equips individuals with the knowledge,understanding and skills relevant to their employment.

Employers recognise that Foundation Degrees confirm academic ability and theyprovide the practical experience required in the workplace. The CourseThe FdA (top up) is for those who have achieved the Certificate inEducation (or equivalent) and who have substantial teaching experience. Itprovides a clear progression route for Cert Ed students to continue to studyat level 5. The course offers students an opportunity to enhance theirpersonal and professional development.

Students will normally be employed in a sector where regular and continualprofessional development is a formal requirement and the course willcontribute to this significant aspect of their role.

4 modules will be delivered over the year: • Work Related Learning (Reflective Practice) • Personal and Professional Development (Research Methods & CPD) • Current Issues in Education • Mentoring and Coaching An APEL portfolio will be submitted during the course. (To be discussed at interview)

The course will provide you with a focus on the links between academictheory and practice. The modules will enable you to develop yourknowledge and understanding of important areas in the field of educationand training which are at the forefront of educational practice.

Additional units will encourage a deeper understanding ofeducational training. A final project of 60 credits will givestudents the opportunity to focus on a subject of interest andof value to their working practices. A negotiated learningcontract will be devised to provide students with focus andstructure. A research proposal and literature review will besubmitted prior to the completion of the project.

The CourseFor those employed in the learning and skills sector, the course provides a route to Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills (QTLS) status. A flexibleprogramme where students work on modules to suit individual andorganisational needs in the following role areas:

Year 1• Teaching, Learning and Assessment• Personal and Professional Development

Year 2• Teaching a Specialist Subject• Curriculum and Professional Issues

A component of the Teaching a Specialist Subject module is delivered on-line by the University and also requires attendance at the University ofHuddersfield for two days in April in the second year of the course.

ProgressionOn successful completion of this course, students have the opportunity toprogress onto the Foundation Degree Professional Development inEducation and the BA (Hons) Professional Development in Education.

Additional informationTo be accepted onto the course, you must be employed as ateacher/trainer in the post compulsory sector and be contracted to teacha minimum of 150 hours (75 minimum each year) throughout the durationof the course. You should be qualified in your subject area to Level 3 orequivalent.

Applicants to the PGCE should have a UK first degree or recognised equivalent.

Entry RequirementsNormally students applying for thisprogramme should hold a Level 3 ChildStudies qualification and a GCSE inEnglish or equivalent, and have aminimum of two years post qualifyingexperience. Mature students with noformal qualification but with a wealth ofexperience working in an Early Yearssetting may apply. The CourseThis sector-endorsed Foundation Degreeis designed for those working orplanning to work in a supervisory positionwithin the Early Years Sector. Students willneed a Critical friend within the

workplace. Students will need evidenceof a recent CRB police check.

ProgressionSuccessful holders of the FoundationDegree will be awarded 240 credits.120 credits will be achieved at Level 1and a further 120 credits at Level 2.There are arrangements for progressiononto BA (Hons) Top up in YoungChildren’s Learning and Development.Other progression routes, both part-timeand flexible on to early years teachingdegrees are available (subject tostatutory requirements). As a seniorpractitioner you will be working towardssupervisory status within your setting.Having completed the FoundationDegree further opportunities coulddevelop to work towards achieving theEarly Years’ Professional Status.

The CourseThe BA Top up in YoungChildren’s learning andDevelopment has beenvalidated by Leeds MetropolitanUniversity. The BA Top Upprovides a continuousprogression for most studentsstudying on the FoundationDegree Young Children'sLearning and Development,enabling them to completetheir honours degree in 3semesters part time. Studentswho have completed a similarFoundation Degree will also beconsidered for this route.Assessment is built aroundreflection and reflectivepractices. This involves thedevelopment of observationalskills that enable the Early Years’Practitioner to adapt currenttheory and thinking to meet theneeds of the child. Courseworkis continuously assessed throughassignments, essays,presentations, reflective practicejournals, portfolios and a workbased dissertation. This BA topup is designed for those workingor planning to work in a leadingposition within the Early Years’Sector. The course is designedto build academicunderstanding, developingknowledge of childdevelopment and educationaltheory; an understanding of thecomplex and conflictingtheories, concepts andprinciples relevant to the subjectarea of Early Childhood Studies

We are a team that places the student atthe centre of everything we do. We areinterested in seeing the personaldevelopment of each of our studentsmaximised to place them in a strong

It is important for you to establish your practice in terms ofprofessional and theoretical contexts through questioning andexamining current methods of manufacture, production andpresentation.

Research staff and a range of visiting professionals will presentand discuss current work as well as questioning you with regard toboth practice and applied research development.
