HARNETT AREA SHAG ASSOCIATION October 2016 NEWSLETTER Hello, HASA Members, your HASA board hopes that you are enjoying the early days of Fall 2016! Many of you have recently returned from SOS. We hope that you had a great time and look forward to hearing about your experience at Fall Migration. There were some great bands on Fun Sunday and Fun Monday and excellent DJ’s. Your secretary is writing this newsletter a few hours after Hurricane Matthew blew through. Your HASA board hopes that you weathered the storm with no flooding or damages. Most area towns have wrapped up their summer outdoor concert series; we hope that you were able to attend a number of these. Now that it is fall our dancing will be indoors! That leads me to share how excited we are to have Butch Barnes as our DJ for our party this coming Friday, October 14. Butch was previously with the Band of Oz and SeaCruz bands. So, please start your fall out right by supporting HASA with your attendance. We need for all our members to try their best to attend each month’s party. We are trying to hold costs down as well as admission fees but the costs keep rising; therefore maximum attendance is critical. Please also invite guests to join us. We always see new faces at our parties and love to see them; some readily join HASA. They all love our venue and dance floor. There are still a few 2016 membership cards to be picked up at the registration area. (They are on the side table). Please listen for your phone tree reminder of our monthly parties, which is sent out on the Wednesday prior to the party. Please note the dates for the remaining parties for 2016 on your calendars. Keep on shaggin’!! NOTE: Shag-o-Ween is to be held at Lane Tree Golf Club and Conference Center just outside Goldsboro on Saturday, October 29!. See flyer elsewhere in the newsletter.

October 2016 NEWSLETTER
Hello, HASA Members, your HASA board hopes that you are enjoying the early days of Fall 2016! NOTE: Shag-o-Ween is to be held at Lane Tree Golf Club and Conference Center just outside Goldsboro on Saturday, October 29!. See flyer elsewhere in the newsletter.
PLEASE BECOME A MEMBER OF HASA!! Membership applications are available at each dance, by downloading the application from our website
(www.hasadance.com) or printing from the last page of the newsletter. Please bring your completed
application to the next dance. For new or renewing members admission is free the night of the party that
you submit your application (unless a “band” night), a real savings and what a great way to see old
friends and meet new ones. You will be given a laminated membership card at the next monthly dance.
Membership fees are a major item in your shag club’s budget.
Be sure to take a look at pictures from our parties on the HASA website or Facebook page (addresses
noted elsewhere in the newsletter.) We can still use a volunteer webmaster for our website, serving as a
Facebook Administrator, helping work the front desk, decorating, etc. It takes a lot of work to put on
our parties. Please consider these opportunities and if interested please contact Cotton Johnson,
President at 910.850-8671. HASA may need some new board officers for 2017. Please consider serving
HASA in any volunteer capacity. We welcome all members who will assist with the many details for the
Friday party set up (setting up tables & chairs, tablecloths, decorations) at 6:30 p.m. on the Thursday
night before the dance.
HASA welcomes ANY ideas, suggestions or comments that will help HASA become an even better club
and increase membership and charity donations – please do not hesitate to contact any officer with your
ideas. Our board officers are listed near the end of this newsletter. We appreciate and thank you for
your ideas on how we can make HASA better for everyone. These suggestions will be discussed at the
next HASA board meeting.
This Month’s Meal!!
For our Friday, October 14 party we are tentatively planning to have lasagna and salad. Members, please
bring a dessert, vegetable sides, and chips. Guests also often bring items and we especially appreciate that!
We are very dependent on our members bringing extra food items. We want to be sure there is enough for
everyone! Most other area shag clubs do not provide a meal, totally depend on members to bring hors
d’ourves, and charge more for admission than HASA. Remember you are truly getting a deal with HASA,
and we don’t want to have to increase admission fees.
Remembrances Please let HASA secretary, Walt Johnson ([email protected]) know when one of our members or member’s family is experiencing health issues, hospitalization, other personal crisis or when there is a death so he can share this with the membership and note in the next newsletter.
Events for Area Shag Clubs:
We thank all of our wonderful friends from numerous area shag clubs who join us each month at our parties!
We encourage our members to support their club dances in return. Some clubs may recognize your HASA
membership for a reduced admission charge. This also applies to out-of-state clubs.
