And James Hargest College have set the target of raising $20,000 for World Vision! In order to meet this we are offering all students the opportunity to do a traditional famine, or, this year the year 9 - 13 students have the opportunity to enter in something a little bit different called “JHC Big Brother”.This will be run from: Year 9 - 12: 10am - 10pm Saturday, 22nd May 10am - 4pm Sunday, 23rd May Year 13: 10am - 4pm Saturday to Sunday There will be many challenges throughout the day that simulate what it is like to live in a third world country, and it will be a school-wide “no electricity” famine. In order to participate in Big Brother, you will need to be sponsored a minimum of $50.00 (this is easier than it sounds - ask family, friends, neighbours, relatives, workmates etc - it’s all going to a good cause!) Parents will also have the opportunity to come and watch when they drop their children off and pick them up to see what is going on - also, they can watch the challenges as they are happening, via a live webcam feed on the Southland Times website. Once down the teams then had a further 4- 5 hrs of mountain biking, kayaking and abseiling ahead of them before the finish. The boys’ team came in 5th in the their section and 9th overall. The girls had problems with cramp from an early stage, but team work won over with a great effort to cross the finish line.
