Per Rusty, “boy can she dance,” re-porting this while smiling unapologetically.
The couple acknowledge their academic ac-complishments such as Rusty’s PHD in mathe-matical science and Lois’s in Home economics, along with the immense pride in their childrenand reports of wonderful memories made whilerearing their family during family camping tripsexploring the Great Lakes, they both beam withpride talking of their love for their grand, andgreat grandchildren, and for that of their parrot“peek-a-boo,” whom they have cared for overforty-years now; But, as this author interviewedand found, the love of dancing the two share isprofound and truly inspiring, for a couple toentertain and nourish a passion for 67 years,
what an amazing exampleto all, “love birds,” outthere to set aside some timefrom your busy life andparticipate in a meaningfulactivity together. Lois andRusty certainly made thattime and what wonderfulmemories were made!Thank you to the wonder-ful couple for sharing theirlove story on this monthwhere the celebration oflove is everywhere, HappyValentine’s Day!
Lois and Rusty RustOn May 25th, 1952 in Battle Creek Michi-
gan Lois and Rusty Rust joined hands in mat-rimony at the historical First CongregationalChurch of Battle Creek; The joyous ceremonywas held two weeks prior to Rusty’s military de-ployment overseas in Germany, a deploymentthat would separate the newlyweds for one yearand last over two. Flash forward in time sixty-seven years, four children, six grandchildren, and three great-great children later, their love,is as strong as it ever was. A love that provi-dence facilitated during a college freshmendance where, Lois reports, “he rescued me,” aliberation from another young man whose ea-gerness to dance with Lois was not reciprocatedby her. Per Lois, the story goes something likethis:
“I was the shortest girl at the dance, andthat’s what caught Rusty’s attention,” Rustychiming in that she certainly was and he knewhe wanted her! Rusty, warded off other boys at-tempting to swoon Loisthat night, and the rest ishistory. The two love birdsdanced the night away sip-ping on ice-cold coca-colasand ending with Rusty es-corting Lois home.
The dance may haveended that night, but Loisand Rusty’s love for danc-ing would go on for years, with the couple reportingtheir favorite memoriesmade together over thecourse of the years took

Administrator NotesDear Residents, Families, Staff, and Friends
of Appledorn South,
2020 has an extra day this year thanks to leap year!So the question is what are you going to do with thatextra day? We each have been gifted 24 extra hoursthis year that we can use to make a difference in thelives of others. Maybe we take 1 hour 24 times thisyear and connect with people we have lost contactwith. Or volunteering our time on 3 different days.Or maybe it is just planning a whole day with some-one special.
One of the exciting things I personally get to dowith the extra days is celebrate my youngest son’s 4thbirthday (or is it is 1st birthday?)! Leap year birthdaysare one of those unexpected things in life that youdon’t have to worry or think about until they happenand then they add to the adventure of life.
So again I challenge you to use the gift of Febru-ary 29th to touch the life of someone around you.
Thanks,JasonJason Bucher, Administrator
Hesitant on trying
Chair Yoga???Here’s what Harvard Medical has to say:
Several small studies have found yoga to have a positiveeffect on cardiovascular risk factors: It helped lowerblood pressure in people who have hypertension. It'slikely that the yoga restores "baroreceptor sensitivity."This helps the body senses imbalances in blood pressureand maintain balance.
Another study found that practicing yoga improvedlipid profiles in healthy patients as well as patients withknown coronary artery disease. It also lowered excessiveblood sugar levels in people with non-insulin depend-ent diabetes and reduced their need for medications.Yoga is now being included in many cardiac rehabilita-tion programs due to its cardiovascular andstress-relieving benefits.
Before you start a new exercise program, be sure tocheck with your doctor.
Researchers are also studying if yoga can help peoplewith depression and arthritis, and improve survival fromcancer.
