The traditional day to celebrate the Ascension is Thursday, however Atlanta, like many dioceses, has moved the celebration to next Sunday. Our Easter season readings from Acts of the Apostles continue this week. We read of Paul’s many conversions and preaching. We also see how followers of Paul catch the fire of his faith and begin to convert others. In John's Gospel, we realize we are approaching Pentecost in a few weeks as Jesus begins to speak of his leaving the earth and of the coming of the “Advocate” - the Spirit of Truth. The image of the Trinity is clear: “when the Advocate comes whom I will send you from the Father....” To his disciples, the idea of his leaving fills their hearts with grief but Jesus reassures them, “it is better for you that I go” so that the Spirit can come to them. The Spirit “will guide you to all truth.” Jesus promises, “Amen, amen, I say to you, you will weep and mourn, while the world rejoices; you will grieve, but your grief will become joy.” “This is my commandment: love one another as I love you.” “Whatever you ask the Father in my name he will give you.” Taken from the "Weekly Guide for Daily Prayer" on the Creighton University's Online Ministries website: http://www.creighton.edu/CollaborativeMinistry/online.html. MAY 26, 6TH SUNDAY OF EASTER

MAY 27-JUNE 1, 2019

S M R Acts 15:1-2, 22-29; Psalm 67;

Revelation 21:10-14, 22-23; John 14:23-29

“T here arose no little dissension and debate.” Did that happen at work this week? Most of us can

recall run-ins with coworkers, even with the boss. Did it happen while socializing with friends? Go easy on politics, religion... even sports. At home? Even the most peaceful household experiences a little “give and take” now and then. So where was it that “there arose no little dissension and debate”? That tumultuous conflict occurred among our first Christian ancestors, disrupting the community life of the early church. But today’s Acts of the Apostles shows how beautifully the Holy Spirit, promised by Jesus in today’s Gospel, helped the church achieve a grace-filled resolution. What evolved was that “reconciled diversity,” often encouraged by Pope Francis and even envisioned in today’s Revelation passage; and a wondrous experience of Jesus’ promised Gospel gift: “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you.” Copyright © J. T he Eucharistic Congress is an annual event that brings more than 30,000 people from throughout Georgia and the southeast together

to grow as a community centered around the Eucharist. As in past years, the Congress will take place at the Georgia International Convention Center in College Park There will be events beginning Friday afternoon/evening and closing with a Mass on Saturday afternoon. There are Francophone, Spanish and Vietnamese tracks as well as special tracks for children, teens, and conducted in American Sign Language. Please reference the website https://congress.archatl.com/ for more details about the events that include many learning and spiritual opportunities to share with your fellow Catholics of Georgia.

O n May 18, Sacred Heart celebrated a Community Wedding for four excited

couples. Msgr. Thein recognized that there were couples who, for various reasons including cost or preparation time, had not been able to be married in the Church. He invited any couple wanting to receive the Sacrament to participate in the same preparations that any other couple would experience. Then Sacred Heart hosted the happy community event of witnessing four couples exchange vows. Congratulations to Jorge Armando Loredo Juarez & Maria del Carmen Mendez Garcia; Alejandro Cruz Bedolla & Carmela Baltazar Garcia; Roman Ramirez Olea & Guadalupe Aguilar Lozano; and Rigoberto Rodas Diaz & Maria Dolores Graciano Gonzalez

D uring Lent we challenged you: “Don’t give up, give back” by using the 40 days to consider joining

one of the Liturgical Ministries that serve our parish. We continued the rally during the celebration of the Easter Season. We are an Easter people, we are a Eucharistic people, and the Mass is the source and summit (in the words of Vatican II) of our faith. And so we continue our request. We are coming towards the end of the Easter Season; Pentecost is June 9. It’s not too late to volunteer or to support your children in learning about Christian Service by becoming an Altar Server. To better understand the ministries, contact the ministry heads listed on page 2. To volunteer contact Alessandra Richardson at [email protected].

M D P Gracious God, On this Memorial Day, we pray for those who courageously laid down their lives for the cause of freedom. May the examples of their sacrifice inspire in us the selfless love of Your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ. Bless the families of our fallen troops, and fill their homes and their lives with Your strength and peace. In union with people of goodwill of every nation, embolden us to answer the call to work for peace and justice, and thus, seek an end to violence and conflict around the globe. We ask this through your name. Amen.

“S urgieron no pocos desacuerdos y debates”.
