2. I remember..Dear Sherry,When I think of our friendship I think of the many different pathsour lives have taken us. You have been there for me in good timesand bad with sympathy, laughter and love.I am so grateful to have you as a friend. I wish you good health andhappiness on your 70th birthday and for many years to come.Love as Always,Jean 3. I remember.. 4. I remember.. 5. I remember.. 6. I remember..Im quite sure everyone will be addressing Sherrys sense of humorbecause there is no limit to the dilemmas and escapades she findsherself tangled up in! My memory however speaks to Sherrysgenuineness . 7. I remember..I go back to the second week on May , 2008. Bill and Sherry werebooked to fly home in less than 2 weeks to be part of dads special80th birthday. I was asked to call Sherry and tell her that dad wasfailing very quickly that week. When I called, all I said was " we areall here at home tonight" and she immediately replied, "we will bethere tomorrow". 8. I remember..She didnt ask for details or put me through what had been playingout for a couple of days. She certainly didnt ponder over changingthe flights or costs involved in doing so. Sure enough, they arrivedthe next day to spend time with dad. 9. I remember..That is my most treasured, honest Sherry-memory that speaks tothe depth of her love, generosity and compassion for family. She isone of the strongest women in my life and her sense of style is notbad either! :)Elva 10. I remember..Really, there isnt anything specific I can think of during our stay inBurgeo. Except that we were always wishing we could get out ofthere :-) I do remember when we used to play Bridge. Ascouples, we each took our turn to have the group at our homes. Ofcourse there was always a lunch after! 11. I remember..One of the players was Joe Burke (UC minister) always looking forfun. At that time, Silly Putty was popular and he found some andstarted bouncing it around. Your mother had a pot of soup on thestove & the putty bounced right in! It was a great laugh at thetime. Between Burgeo, Holyrood & Clarenville, we shared manyvisitsthere were lots of shared moments.Best wishes,Gloria 12. I remember..Memories for Sherry:I have decided to approach this reflection in three stages.Part # 1 Preface: Kudos to Shelagh for coming up with this ideaof sharing memories. It is an absolutely amazing way to pay tributeto our special, one in million, Sherry :-)Sitting here reminiscing and trying to decide which delicious one toshare could be compared to Sherry trying to select the first trufflefrom a box of Godivas, they are all so sweet and tempting! So ofcourse I couldnt stop at just one because we all know one truffleonly leads to another. 13. I remember..Part # 2 - Memory one is an event that happened many yearsago, lets just say over 45, after all a year here or there would bepointless on this occasion.Sherry often came down to the lake to swim or hang out. On oneof these occasions she was anxious to attempt the art (at least itwas considered an art up until that point) of water-skiing. Dad andBill had gotten together and bought a set of skies and a few of uskids would go for spin as often as possible. 14. I remember..SO Sherry was determined and I mean determined to get up onthe skies. She was given three simple rules to follow: 1. Sit back onthe skies, 2.keep your ski TIPS up and 3. Hold on to the rope. However someone failed to mention that eventually you have toallow the boat to pull you into full upright position. 15. I remember..Needless to say it was a sight to behold, there was Sherryplowing through the wake and as one might expect her mouthwas open so she was taking in water one ugly gulp at a time. Now the pressure of the water (as she continued to plowalong, determined not to let go of the rope), forced the top of herbathing suit to free itself from her upperbody.. Good Lord, we said TIPS up notTITS up.What a hoot that was. As young as I was I still remember the hootsof laughter and head shaking going on that day. 16. I remember..Which brings me to Part #3 This second memory is ratherpoignant and brings a smile to my heart every time I think of it.It was May 14th 2008, we were all sitting around Dads bed andSherry said, Cyril do you remember the time you took mewatering skiing down the lake?Dad nodded his head yes, then she said do you remember I lostthe top of my bathing suit and dad started to smile then laughedout loud and said that was the best part.It was the last time we heard him laugh and Ill always be gratefulto Sherry for that priceless memory.Happy 70th! With love , Cheryl 17. I remember..Sherry is a gem. You can see just looking at her -- the devotion toher husband, children and grandchildren. It exudes from everypore the joy she derives from having them there. Those of uswho are lucky to be friends of her children and grandchildren areincluded in her circle just because. Its not just a one-way street the feeling is mutual. 18. I remember..What I love is Sherrys young at heart attitude, wonderful sense ofhumour and great laugh. Just think of the great times that we havehad at dinner, football games and at Braz for the Cause.Sherrys relationship with Shelagh is a wonderful thing to observe. She is clearly there to support her in whatever way she can evenso far as going on a road trip whether to football games inSudbury, Braz in London or even my Moms funeral in Ottawa.Sherry and Shelagh are a team.We Brayleys wish Sherry the happiest of birthdays and wishes formany, many more to come. 19. I remember..If you know me at all you know Im not good with showing feelingsor just simply good with words. So here goesDearest Sherry,Our lives are sewn together through Mum and Dad. Each day Imblessed with memories that have been passed along or my own.Whichever, they were wrapped in love and goodness. 20. I remember..Your Car trips home. That was the day for housework, wonderingwhat time would arrival time be.Anticipation grew with every passing minute. Once you guys drovein the drive way, the first thing you did was arms wide open to givehugs.Always having a book in your hand. Dad hiding it in the fridge. 21. I remember..Swimming down at the point. Nothing but laughter being heard.Specially when you lost the top of your bathing suit when trying toski. You falling and Dad laughing.Fancy restaurant and fancy drinks. Saying its ok for Bill to buy myfirst martini ever. Felt like Lenore on the Edge of Night.Letting me extend my NF vacation. Not sure that was a good idea.Did you ever find the bottoms of my bathing suit? 22. I remember..Noxzema sleeping beauty. Oh my you were furious. Under themask smiles. These and many other will always stay with me. They not onlymake me smile, makes me realize just how fortunate I am to haveyou in my (our ) life.Your smile is always seen, your laughter is always heard and yourhugs are always felt. Thanks for being you!Happy Birthday my love,Darlene 23. I remember..Oh wow, theres so many memories of Mrs M when I was youngbut what comes to mind immediately is her smile and laugh, thatsmile can light up a whole universe. A beautiful smile even fills her eyes which are always bright in anylight. A sweetness that permeates her essence.I also believe that Mrs. M. has a strength and tenacity toovercome deterrents that life brings. She is definitely a lady Iadmire and love. What can I say, Mrs. M. ROCKS!Diane King 24. I remember..Prepping Clar..The PIG for the Pig Roast Sherry was to do out doors, on aspit, with an apple in his mouth. Only problem it was winter, -18 orso. Christmas week..Sherry looks at me and asked "What are we going to do now? WEhave to cook it".. I told everyone to come over for the pig roast! So we thought it over ( few drinks later) a new idea came forth.and it was a good one...We sure were thinking outside the box!!! 25. I remember..We had to clean him up, but how?? He was too big for the sink?(time for another drink) Now were making sense! So we put him in the shower--- not a problem..In the shower hewent.. Clars little feet were dancing and his smile was justsomething else... Found a pan big enough off to the oven with theapple in his mouth. Teeth feet and body.It was needless to say the best darn pork ever, or was it thememory of the fun we all had putting it together. Happy Birthdaymy Friend...Love, Glenn 26. Sherry, you are andalways will be my sister and a true friend,( just to let you know ) 27. I remember..Some Memories of Sherry...You have been in my life for a very, very long time, so where, ohwhere, does one beginI guess down at the point swimming. Mom with all her kids andyou with all yours. Bathing suits, peanut butter, jamsandwiches, purple kool-aid, water ski and swimming all daywithout a care in the world.McGraths coming HOME for summer vacations. Trailer, kids andBrandy 28. I remember..Darlene and I going over to Newfoundland by ourselves spendingsome time with you and your family. Okay, so we broke the bedyou and Bill laughed, laughed so hard. For some reason l had tocome home earlier than Darlene, so what.My very firsts drink, you bought it remember, a Martini 29. I remember..You always have a way of making everyone around you feelLOVED, RELAXED and COMFORTABLE. I just love that about you.You are also one of the few people that l know that would droppedwhat your doing and run to be with the people that love you. 30. I remember..Four and a half years ago proved that. You came when we neededyou and you needed us. That memory l will hold dearest to myheart. Your dropped everything and came and stood by our sides. You made one of the most important people in my life happy, ourdad. You have also been able to put a smile on dads face and thatafternoon you had did it again even if was for a moment or so. Dadhad wanted EVERYONE he loved with him and he did.You are Gods most BEAUTIFUL person he ever madeHave a wonderful birthdayWith all our Love,Elizabeth, LawrenceLynn and Jessica XOXOXOXOXXO 31. I remember..I have many great memories of your Mom and they are all funny. As you already know she is quite the character. One instance thatstands out in my mind is the time her and I went up to the smallchurch as we were going to clean it. It was during Lent and thepriest had a box on the altar for people to write down what theyhad given up for Lent and put it in the box. 32. I remember..Sherry decided she was going to open the box to see what was inthere. I was just as curious as her but didnt have the nerve like shedid. However she managed to take out the two pieces of paperfrom the box. I can only remember one and that was an adult(man) who was giving up comics for Lent. Ask her who it was. Welaughed so hard we never got to clean the church. 33. I remember..We came back to my house and told the two Bills what we haddone. We had many laughs about that. Your Mom is a good friendand we can go years and not speak with each other but when wedo its like we have never been apart.Marie Norcott 34. I remember..Hi Grandma,I havent known you long ..but here is my favourite memory of youso farLove Marleigh 35. I remember..Its hard to pick through a life time of memories. I guess lately itsMom and I doing our Friday coffee.90% of the time its just the twoof us usually at some bakery or cafe in the winter or her favoratebeaches haunts in the spring. 36. I remember..Just small talk over coffee ,a sweet and some form of scratch andwin ticket.I get a real kick out of how she always asks if we aregoing on Friday .Every time I worked midnights for 2 years its bean a ritual.Just having a coffee and chat with your mom for an hour or soonce a week isnt to bad a way to build some memories, a littlegambling never hurts eitherLove Gus 37. I remember..Im not quite sure I know another grandmother who is fluent inApple software, Facebook, or digital photography. I dont think Ive ever found a better cookie, nor have I tasted abetter cherry pie. Christmas, New Years, Easter, and Birthdays arejust an excuse for her to impress everyone with her superiorculinary skills, and act all humble about it.To Sherry, the only position on a football field is 32. 38. I remember..Grandma, Ive only known you for 21 years, but Id only need 1 dayto understand the youthful exuberance that radiates from yourpersonality, the undying love you have for your family andfriends, and your willingness to go above and beyond theexpectations of others in order to make them the happiestpossible person. 39. I remember..The most immediate memory I have of Grandma is her first placeof residence: Bikini Village. When we were younger, Frank and Iwould have the pleasure of having Grandma serve as ourbabysitter. This meant that we would essentially be spoiled to death. Part ofthis meant going to the mall to get Superkid ice cream from LauraSecord at the Scarborough Town centre. We never understood why women would have any use for abikini, or what they were even for, but as we walked by the colorfuldisplay of breasts, Frank turned to Grandma and said somethingalong the lines of, Ohhh Gramma, dat would look nice on you! 40. I remember..Or how about the time we decided to road trip across Canada in arental van.Our destination was our cousins cottage in the B.C mountains. Butfirst we needed to travel thousands of miles of flat, unambiguousprairie land. What better way to pass the time than to make Grandma laugh! When excited enough, her laugh could make the dullest, mostdepressing situation into the funniest thing youve everexperienced. All you have to do is say the magic words: Grammatake your teeth out! 41. I remember..But there is one aspect of Grandma that is inherently tied to herexistence; you cant speak about Sherry without acknowledgingher snoring. Thats right, the womans snore could rival the soundof a gunshot. How Granddad sleeps at night will forever remain amystery to me. But hey, Christmas eve isnt the same without theendless snores emanating through the walls. A snore that canpierce 3 insulated walls has to be considered a talent of some type. 42. I remember..There are innumerable memories I could write about, but then Idprobably end up with some type of novel. But if I was given thetime, I would do so. But I still feel as if no amount of words canever express the love and affection we have for her. Weve been toDavid Duncan house, Old Mill, and not to mention shes practicallysampled food from nearly every restaurant in Toronto, and tosome degree the surrounding area. 43. I remember..These are just a few examples of Grandma and how they haveimpacted me. Her laugh is contagious, her personalityinfectious, and her snoringwell loud. But I think the fact that so many people have so many loving thingsto say about her is just a testament to the affect she has on familyand friends. When I think of Grandma, all I think of is fun.Happy 70th Birthday Grandma! 70 years of thanks and praise couldnever measure up to the amount you deserve. We love you withall our hearts and heres to wishing you another 70 years!Much Love Carlo 44. I remember..It all began at the "boobie store" eating super kid icecream, scratching lottery tickets and throwing pennies into thefountain of the mall. After that, we would come home to watch barney. Even thoughyou hated the purple dinosaur that always sang the same songover and over again. You were always there for me Grandma, and every memory I haveof you are good ones. 45. I remember..There isnt one memory that I could say is my favourite becausethere are just too many.Whether it be the long trips we have taken across Canada, or thelong trips we would take to the middle of nowhere in a hotsummer day to play a football game, every loud concert you haveever had to experience me and Carlo playing guitar in places youwould never think of going, you were always there to make uslaugh. To be honest, I dont know any other grandma who takes betterpictures than you, let alone takes as many picture as you! And yourcookies indescribable. 46. I remember..Through thick and thin, through every loud snore, through everyamazing Christmas present that I never had to ask for, throughevery car maintenance that needed to be done on the car that youand Granddad blessed me with, through everythingGrandma, thank you for always being the best grandma you couldever be. 47. I remember..You were there for every surgery I have had to experience andsomehow always made me smile before going in. Although you werent my prom date, the offer was nice, and if itmeans anything you probably would of been a better prom datethen the one I had. 48. I remember..In my 19 years knowing you Grandma, there was not one year Icould say was my favourite because all the memories we have areall my favourite. If I were to write all of them down then I wouldhave a book. And it is far from over, there are many more memories to comeand I am looking forward to them as always!Happy 70th birthday Grandma, I love you, and thank you foreverything wishing you the best and another 70 years to go!Love Frank 49. No words could ever thank you enough forthat. 50. I remember..First of allI want to share what I think might be Glenyss favouritememoryJust because I feel she would want to be part of this and she wouldfind some beautiful words to share- in her absence I take theliberty of making sure she has a part in this tooSo I think one of her favourite memories might be the time shetook us to lunchShe had just gotten her first pay cheque cashedand yup we were going downtown to lunch. 51. I remember..We went to JJ Rossi and Glenys soooo proudsays..Order upgirls, its on me We had wine and lunch and a great timethebill appearsGlenys looks for her walleterrno wallet. You and I pay for lunch and are both panicked about the missingwallet. Glenys as Glenys was seemed non chalantwe rush backto the carVoila- there is her wallet sitting on the seat. 52. I remember..Glenyss responseOh well if someone had taken it they wouldhave needed it more than me. We laughed.Think about it though- such a sweet comment, and coming fromthe way she was raisedYou inspired us to always care aboutothers and be thankful for each other and the situation of othersAlthough she is not here with us in bodywe know she is watchingover us and has made us stronger too. 53. I remember..And now on to mewhat can I tell you Momother than in everysituation in life that has challenged me- you have been there. Inevery situation of joy like the kids arriving you have beenthereand whenever I have needed you the most- you have beenthere 54. I remember..I remember so many thingslike when I was little laying my headon your lap and youd play with my hair, watching Miss America insecret, taking turns sleeping with you when Dad was awaybaking, and babysitting and bringing every stray homenever did youdiscourage me instead you made life believable. I remember..As an adultyou have always been my rockcame and saved mefrom sleep deprivation and the craziness when I had Carlotookcare of Frank when I needed that, and have been the mostamazing Grandmother. You make every effort to be part of the kids livesyou are alwaysthere for them and not in a way that is superficialYou are forthem what you are for mestrength, laughter, love and an undyingsupportsomeone who rejoices in success, tempers failure as alesson and always, always raises our spirits. 57. I remember..And now for a funny memoryWe had girls nightwe ran out ofwine watching Letters to JulietI said to youawww Mom we are out of red- I have somewhiteYou promptly repliedwhat I have red in the trunk..wetake the elevator downstairs , in our jammies, its rainingand welaugh uncontrollably all the way to your carTo which you reply as you open the trunk which one do youwant? I remember..Omgand do you remember the moves???The Russians, the Indians and most recentlyTwoMen and a TruckShel does this matress feel funny to you?Yes it doescan you sleep on it Mom?Are you kidding???? Well flip it in the morning 59. I remember..All that being saidI want you to know that you have impacted mylife in a way no one else couldyou have taught mehumility, kindness, unconditional love, and what it means to befamily.Love you from the bottom of my heartnow and alwaysHappy Birthday,Love Shelagh 60. I remember..And now.some words from the man youve spent a better part oflife with. 61. I remember..I am not sure of exactly what it is that I am supposed to say on anoccasion such as this. Sherry is seventy. That in itself is hard tobelieve. Look at her. Does she look like seventy to you? Does sheact like a normal seventy year old to you. She sure doesnt to me. 62. I remember..This is a very knowledgeable person who keeps sharp byphotography, computer courses, family commitments andinvolvement, and still enjoys a good laugh about something everyday. When I see her with a young child she is like a young mother againand my mind goes back to when our four children were young. Shewas an excellent mother who loved and cared for all her childrenwith total devotion. She can be so childlike when dealing with children that they arenaturally attracted to her. 63. I remember..We have been married for almost half a century. It is impossible forme to say all that she has given me.She taught me to laugh at myself and as a result I have beengreatly amused ever since. She taught me to love Christmas and celebrate it as it should bedone. There are times during the Christmas season when I actuallythought that she believed that Santa Claus was real. She sharedthat enthusiasm with all of us. 64. I remember..We have shared so much together; ups and downs , good timesand bad, packing up and moving every three years of our lives overa twenty-five year period.Spending time in isolation in Burgeo where she acted as a secondmember of the RCMP by taking calls. She would then relay the calls to me over the radio and thatswhen the fun would start. She never really got the hang of using asingle side band radio. 65. As a result virtually every Detachment in the Sub-Division gatheredaround their radio receivers each night to hear the show. 66. I remember..There was a small jail at the Detachment and whenever we hadprisoners we naturally had to provide meals. We were given a small stipend to cover the costs but the Prisonersin Burgeo jail were fed meals such as they had never had before.Think of the Chefs on T.V.When I advised here that we were losing money on the deal andthat several different desserts were not really necessary, herresponse was, Sure the poor buggers have to eat. 67. I remember..Our escorts together with mental patients were classic and I couldprobably write a book on the experiences we had.Not a great way to travel. There were other people, places, andtimes to numerous to mention. 68. I remember..As she approaches seventy I am reminded that life is about theexperiences that we share with the ones we love the most.We have experienced the good things in life and can thank God formany blessings. When God was on holidays and send us some tough pills toswallow we endured and never gave up on ourselves or our family. 69. I remember..Sherry is an all around good soul. Someone once said that the loveof a man and a woman is the highest order of giving praise to god.I dont know about that but I do know that my life without Sherryin it would be impossible to contemplate. We can do this again when you hit one hundred.Love, Bill 70. Happy Birthday to a person we all love andcherishwishing you a dayfull of happy memories and knowing how muchwe love you!
