Handwriting without Tears Handwriting without Tears is our First Grade Handwriting curriculum. It is a research-based program designed by an occupational therapist. The purpose of the program is to teach children handwriting techniques that will make handwriting an automatic and natural skill. When children know how to write, want to write! HWT is a multisensory program that is fun, hands-on and age-appropriate. Multisensory materials such as: songs, wooden letters, slates and movement, are added to complement the direct teacher instruction. The program starts with purely multisensory experiences, then progresses to focus on posture and grip, and finally includes workbook practice. The workbooks provide frequent models for children to self-check their work. HWT uses double lines to introduce printing. Why do Double Lines Work?
