MEASUREMENTS1 ⁄2 in. wide and 63 ⁄4 in. long without the closure.
TOOLS• Size 10 or 12 beading needle• Thread cutters or scissors
Because the patterns are fairly random, they can be shortened by just stopping at the desired length.
The more, the merrier If you are making two or three bracelets to wear together, make the same length adjustment to all patterns and make the toggles all the same size so the finished bracelets lie nicely next to each other.
Instructions1 Refer to the Giraffe, Zebra, or Leopard
three-drop pattern and word chart on
pages 48 to 50. Follow the instructions for
Fast Peyote (Techniques, p. 94) to create the
peyote band. Add thread (Techniques,
p. 97) as needed throughout the project.
Create the flat peyote loop
2 The closure for this project consists of a flat
peyote loop and a peyote toggle. Reinforce
the end of the bracelet (Techniques, p. 96,
step 11). Exit at the location on the pattern
marked by a black dot.
3 Follow the instructions for a flat peyote
loop (Techniques, p. 98), using 12 rows of
the desired color beads. Secure the other
end of the loop at the location on the
pattern marked with a black dot. Sew back
through the loop and then weave into the
piece. Use finishing knots to secure, then
trim the thread and tuck into the piece.
Create the toggle tube and the
toggle tail
4 Create the toggle by working eight or 12
columns (whichever you prefer) and six rows
of two-drop peyote into a band. Zip up the
band into a tube (Techniques, p. 103) and
exit through the center of the tube.
5 Remove the stop bead and add thread
(Techniques, p. 97) to the original tail at
the opposite end of the piece. Weave into
the piece, tucking the knot into a bead.
Reinforce the end of the bracelet. Exit at the
black dot marked on the pattern.
6 Follow the instructions to make a five-row
toggle tail (Techniques, p. 103). Connect the
toggle tube to the toggle tail (Techniques,
p. 103). Weave back into the piece through
several beads to form a strong base for
the tail.
7 Weave into the end of the bracelet using
finishing knots (Techniques, p. 97) to secure,
then trim the thread, and tuck into
the piece.
