With three teams from each section going forward to the end-of-season competition, the battle for a top three finish could become clearer after this Sunday’s games. In the Northern Section, second-placed Liverpool play fourth-placed Salford, who will be desperate for victory to overtake Nottingham University and extend their season into the play-offs. But Nottingham will be aiming to hang on to that spot by beating Liverpool Speke Garston on Saturday, who beat Manchester University last weekend and must win all their remaining games to have any chance of reaching the play-offs. In other Northern Section action on Sunday, Manchester University will be looking to bounce back from their narrow 29-28 defeat to Speke Garston with victory over bottom of the table Wirral. In the Southern Section this weekend, leaders Great Dane take on second-placed Cambridge, knowing that victory will ensure they go forward to the play-offs as Southern champions. But with results from the regular season being carried forward to the play-offs Cambridge will be in no mood to contemplate defeat. And finally, the Olympia v Thames match scheduled to take place on Sunday has been switched to Saturday at Leyton, London. This week’s pictures from Liverpool Speke Garston v Manchester University are by Paul Jacobson. THIS Friday is the deadline for entries to the popular Under- 15 National Schools Cup, which is due to take place in May and June this year. The event proved popular last year with 28 schools entering, and even more are expected in 2010. The Competition Organiser, Nik Popovic said: “Last year was the successful re-launch of this National competition, which also acts as initial Talent Identification for County and eventually, England youth teams. We expect a significant increase this year.” Regional qualifying tournaments will take place on May 15, with the national finals on June 19. For more details please go to www.EnglandHandball.com
