Globe pattern instrument hand valve usedin severe service isolation, drain and testapplications.
Features and Benefits• Stem packing is GRAFOIL® standard
for high-temperature service.
• Free-swiveling SS ball stem preventsseating surface damage and ensures perfect alignment cycle after cycle. Thedifferential hardness between the ball and seat assures bubble-tight shutoff.
• One-piece handle assembly preventsloss due to vibration or maintenance. Ifhandle is removed, locking bolt remainswith handle.
• Rolled stem threads prevent gallingand extend valve life. Stem is polishedto a mirror finish to minimize packingwear.
• Back Seat design provides secondarystem seal and prevents accidental stemblowout under pressure.
• Full pressure and temperature rangeup to ASME Class 2500.
• Bonnet lock (patented) preventsaccidental loosening of the bonnet-to-body seal. A high-strength short bonnetpin aligns a hex collar over the bonnet. A standard panel nut then locks the collaragainst the valve body. The nut allows allinstrument valves to be panel-mountedwithout any additional parts. Testsindicate that the minimum torquerequired to break the collar loose isgreater than the torque required to twistoff the valve handle.
• Bonnet-to-body, metal-to-metal sealpoint places the seal in constantcompression below the bonnet threads. This prevents bonnet thread corrosion, eliminates possible tensile breakage ofthe bonnet, and provides a reliable sealpoint.
• Repairable metal seat can be resurfaced without removing the valvefrom the line.
• Code materials of construction aredesigned to meet requirements of ASME B31.1 or ASME B31.3.
ASME B31.1 or B31.3Valve design criteria is described in Section107. Important considerations from thissection are as follows:
1. Valves require specific pressure andtemperature ratings such as those foundin ASME B16.34.
2. Material requirements must conform tolisted ASTM specifications.
3. As a minimum, the valve body should bemarked or tagged in accordance withspecification MSS-SP-25.
4. Valve design may include screwed, union, or OS&Y bonnets.
The requirements for instrument, control, and sampling systems are found in Section122. Instrument piping, as defined by thissection, includes that piping from theinstrument root valve (or first valve off themain piping line) up to but not including theinstrument, transmitter, or any othermeasuring and sensing device.
The instrument valve or manifold must bedesigned to withstand full system designpressure at the design temperature or thecorresponding saturation temperature if theservice is steam. Even though theinstrument will never be subjected to the
system temperature, manifold designrequires this protection in the event that theroot valve should fail under operatingconditions. If blowdown valves are usedbetween the root valve and the manifold, then the manifold design temperature ratingneed only be 100°F [38°C]. However, insuch cases, the pressure rating must bethe lesser of 1.5 times the mainline designpressure or the rating of the blowdownvalve. The utilization of commercial grademanifolds (without the manufacturer'scertification to ASME B31.1 or B31.3 or ifstamped WOG) which meet only thepressure ratings are prohibited unless allother code requirements have been met(such as Table 126.1 in ASME B31.1 orB31.3 for materials, compliance to testingrequirements, etc).
The final section of the Code, Section I,137, specifies the criteria for testing. Allinstrument manifold valves are required tobe hydrostatically tested by themanufacturer to certify compliance with theCode. Hydrostatic testing is performed, as aminimum, in accordance with MSS-SP-61.This testing includes the body cavityhydrostatic test at 1.5 times the designpressure rating and seat leakage test(s) at1.1 times the maximum pressure rating.

Product OverviewOur CT7 Gauge Siphon is designed toreplace the old style ‘pigtail’ siphon, withsavings of up to 50 percent. It provides athermal barrier between hot vapors and thepressure gauge, switch, or transmitter. TheCT7 makes a valuable contribution to thetechnique of installing and utilizing pressuregauges on steam, Dowtherm, and other hotvapor applications, as well as providing aseal barrier between a gauge or pressuremeasuring device.
Features and Benefits• Compact design requires minimum
space for installation.
• Steam protection creates acondensate barrier between the livesteam process line and the pressuremeasurement device. The lowcoefficient of heat transfer allows for apredictable temperature of the pressuremeasurement instrument.
• Freeze protection forms a barrier toprevent freezing of instruments on wetair lines when the gauge siphon is filledwith glycol. However, when it containskerosene, it acts as a freeze protectorfor aqueous liquid service.
• Immediate installation of pipingwithout instruments during constructionsaves time.
Use of the H7H Valve in connection with theGauge Siphon further reduces the gaugetemperature by lengthening the condensateleg. The condensate will then ‘hang-up’between the valve orifice and the top of the1⁄4-inch tube. That is, condensate will alsooccupy the lower part of the Siphon.
As vapor temperature increases, it isimportant to get longer condensate legs. This can be accomplished by eitherconnecting the CT7 to an H7H or mounting two CT7 siphons in series.

Estimated Gauge Temperature vs. Saturated Steam Pressure for Various AmbientTemperatures (316 SS)
Using the chartsThe gauge temperature of a CT7/H7assembly can be estimated knowing theCT7/H7 material, the saturated steamcondition and the ambient air temperature.
Example: Assume a CS CT7/H7 with 400 psig [27.6 barg] 448°F [231°C]saturated steam and 80° [27°C] ambientair. Read the CS chart up from 400 psig[27.6 barg] to the 80°F [27°C] curve, andthen left to an estimated gaugetemperature of 170°F [77°C].
Note: The estimated gauge temperaturefor a 316 SS CT7/H7 under the same conditions would be 135°F [57°C].

Product OverviewThe Flow Check Adapter is designed toconnect a pressure source and a staticpressure measuring instrument. In the eventof the instrument rupturing, the flow checkadapter closes automatically as a result ofthe medium ‘flowing.’ Flow check serves asa pressure snubbing device againstpressure peaks which may be damagingand also acts as a syphon protecting theinstrument from the effects of hot steam byallowing a barrier of steam condensate toform. The adapter can be rotated through360 degrees allowing the instrument to beoriented in the best position. Flow check isdesigned for hazardous service includingtoxic, flammable and high pressure dutiesproviding extra protection for personnel andthe environment.
Features and Benefits• The flow check adapter seals off the
flow when activated by escaping gas orliquid.
• Automatically resets when flowconditions cease or the instrument is replaced.
• Integral restricted orifice acts as a pulsation damper and thereforereduces damage to sensitiveinstruments.
• Rotatable adapter option allows 360-degree positioning of gauges and instruments.
