Auctioneer’s Report (Will Alexander): The final of this season’s
Christmas shows was no disap-pointment, with a tremendous entry of
stirks and a flying trade to match. The presale show was in the
capable hands of Barnard Castle farmer Chris Dent. Quality was
forward in abundance in every class, but after much deliberation,
Frankland Farms took the Champion Rosette with their 1st place
senior heifer whilst Colin Bell took the Reserve with his 1st place
senior bullock. A busy ring-side of 58 active buyers, some
operating on numerous accounts, ensured all classes sold to full
value. A superb entry of suckler bred heifers with future breeding
potential were well received, the top price being achieved by the
Champion at £1550, heading home with the judge, others from the
Frankland’s consignment regularly £1200-£1300. A quartet of heifers
travelling down from D Megahy in the Scottish borders topped at
£1380 and averaged £1240. Best bullocks equal-ly well sought after,
the Reserve Champion realising £1070, whilst Martin Fishwick and
Family real-ised £1080 & £1110 of their 1st & 2nd prize
junior bullocks. Taylor Bros, Skipton also in the prizes, their
best heifers £1150 & £1140. Away from the show, strongest
cattle up over £1000, nice win-tering sorts £800-900, yearling
sorts nicely in the £700s. Black and whites well bid for, the
strong-est coming from Messrs Lamont at £850, others in the £700s
with some smaller 12m types look-ing well sold in £500s. A few more
bulls on offer today the strongest to £880 from JM&ED
Hutchinson, Pott Yeats and FW Horner & Son, Redmire, other
stronger and smart types in the £800s, with the next draw in the
late £600s.

Auctioneer’s Report (Greg MacDougall): Bentham bucked the trend
on Wednesday night with a sharper trade than some early week
auctions averaging 207.3p (SQQ 209.4p) bearing in mind there was a
large num-ber of hill bred and Mule lambs in the entry. Handy
weight export lambs in the strongest demand often sell-ing between
210p-220p with nicer types 220p-230p. Best lambs as usual good to
sell and short of demand with plenty of pens 260p-290p with heavy
lambs less on the week mainly due to further lockdowns through-out
the country. Topping the night’s sale at £134.50 were Beltex from
SC Currie, Rathmell with NL & CJ brown topping per kilo at
292.3p. Lambs weighing 45kg-50kg £94-£100 with shapier butcher
types £105-£125. Handy weight Mules either side of 200p with
heavier sorts £85-£90. Horned lambs in general 185p-195p with
leaner lambs 160p-170p. Lightweights still good to sell although
slightly less with the Christmas rush now over, topping at 264.7p
or £90 from P & JM Wilson & Son, Eccles Farm.
