Smart Shipping has the potential to transform the fundamentals of ship operation, with digital technology and big data driving radical new solutions up to and including autonomous ships. But what does the industry actually want from these new technologies, how real are the efficiencies they offer and what changes to the regulatory framework would be needed prior to significant implementation?
The debate at Seatrade Maritime Middle East will bring together six leading regional and global figures from the industry to debate these fundamental questions. Three will speak for the motion and three against it. This will be followed by a floor debate involving members of the audience and then, following a summary of the arguments on both sides, a vote will be taken on the motion.

The fourth edition of UAE Maritime Week is set to promote the UAE’s global status as a first class maritime destination and enhance Dubai’s competitiveness as one of the world’s leading maritime clusters – reinforced recently with news that Dubai has moved for the first time into the top five in the International Shipping Centre Development Index (ISCD), which is compiled by the Baltic Exchange.
The UAE Maritime Week forms part of our tireless efforts to create a global profile for and enhance the competitiveness of Dubai’s maritime sector. The event is an important national platform that allows for the exploration of the industry’s future in a bid to position the UAE as the world’s most competitive, comprehensive, and exclusive maritime center.
28 OCTOBER – 1 NOVEMBER 2018
The UAE Maritime Week 2018 will bring together multiple stakeholders to collaborate and contribute to the progress of maritime industry and, by extension, their own businesses. As part of the UAE Maritime Week, Seatrade Maritime Middle East will contribute immensely to this momentous event by providing the perfect platform to network and promote the participants’ products and services to the widest audience possible. We look forward to another year of the successful event designed to serve the needs of the regional and international shipping and maritime communities of the future.
