Phil Parnham, Building Surveyor, BlueBox partners Phil is a Chartered Building Surveyor and a director at BlueBox partners. He has many years experience organising
and delivering a range of training services for those working in the residential property sector. Phil has also written
the sample phrases for the RICS Home Survey products and a number of books including The Surveyor’s Guide to
Home Surveys, Domestic Energy Assessor’s Handbook, and Residential Property Appraisal for Spon Press.
Phil also works closely with the SAVA School of Surveying and helps deliver their Diploma in Residential Surveying
and Valuation.

Nigel Donohue, CEO, Cavity Insulation Guarantee Agency (CIGA) Nigel heads up CIGA and was previously the CEO at West Anglia Training Association,
a Group Training Association, where Nigel oversaw delivery of engineering,
manufacturing, specialist construction, warehousing , logistics and health and safety
training to member companies and customers.
Nigel has also held senior management positions in the Construction Industry Training
Board (CITB) and within Government.
Stephen Hodgson, CEO, Property Care Association (PCA)
Stephen joined the Trade Association as a technical specialist in 2000 after 13 years
working as a surveyor and manager in the preservation industry. He has been Chief
Executive Officer of the Property Care Association since October 2012. He is passionate
about the industry in which he is proud to serve and is committed to delivering the
highest possible standards of service and workmanship to consumers as well as first rate
representation and value for money to members of the Property Care Association.
Stephen works hard to maintain strong links with organisations including RICS, the
Council of Mortgage Lenders, TrustMark, STBA, BRE, National Flood Forum and
the UK Centre for Moisture in Buildings.

Jessica Lamond, Associate Professor in Flood Risk Management in the Built Environment, University of the West of England
Associate Professor Jessica Lamond BSc (Hons) MSc PhD is a member of the Centre for
Floods, Communities and Resilience at the University of the West of England focussing
on structural and non-structural responses to flood risk in urban settings.
Jessica has a background in decision science, insurance and econometrics and is involved
in research into the barriers and drivers to delivering flood management, the impact of
repeated flooding and the long term financial and economic implications of flooding on
property stakeholders.
Clive Shrubsole, Senior Research Associate, University College London
Clive Shrubsole is a Senior Research Associate (Healthy Buildings) within the UCL Institute for Environmental Design and Engineering, University College London. He specialises in the formation, movement and impact of airborne pollutants particularly as this affects the indoor environment and health.
He has a wide range of industrial and professional management expertise gained within the construction sector primarily involving project management and the application of specialist material science and technologies. A longstanding committee member of the UK Indoor Environments Group (UKIEG), he is also Assistant Editor of ‘Indoor and Built Environment’, a peer-reviewed research journal published by SAGE.
Ian Mawditt, Building Performance Researcher, Four Walls Consultants Ltd
Ian is a building researcher, specialising in the field of energy performance and
occupant comfort. He is the founding director of Four Walls Consultants – an
independent building performance and research consultancy based in Bristol.
Ian currently co-chairs the technical working group for ventilation and indoor air quality at the UCL’s UK Centre for Moisture in Buildings, and the think-tank network: Health Effects of Modern Airtight Construction (HEMAC).
Ian was a key member of the technical teams that supported the Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG) in the development of amendments to Part F and Part L of the Building Regulations. He was also engaged by Innovate UK as
an expert evaluator under the Building Performance Evaluation programme, and provided technical guidance for the Retrofit for the Future programme.

Hudson Lambert, Deputy Chairman, Property Care Association
Through his roles at Safeguard Europe, Hudson has been involved in the development and marketing of products for the property care industry since 1995.
In the specific area of wood-preservatives, he has experience in the formulation of micro-emulsion and borate formulations as well as seeking regulatory approval for these products.
His current role as Managing Director of Safeguard Europe requires him to keep up to date on the latest regulatory developments in order to be able to future-proof product ranges.
Dr Fernando Sarce, KTP Associate, Property Care Association Fernando joined the PCA team in February 2017 as a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP)
Associate for the Residential Atmospheric Moisture Diagnostics project, which is part of a
joint initiative between UCL and PCA. He is an Architect by profession with a PhD degree in
Materials Engineering, and has more than 10 years of experience within the field of
building physics.
He worked as a Research Fellow at The University of Nottingham as a member of the Gas
Adsorption Facility for the GeoEnergy Research Centre. In the last 5 years he has been
dedicated to the investigation of the coupled phenomena between heat and mass
transport within porous materials. This new KTP role will challenge him to further expand
his knowledge about moisture-related problems, and he is looking forward to learning from
UCL and PCA members’ wealth of experience.
Gervais Sawyer, Editor, International Wood Products Journal Gervais has been working with wood since leaving school. After 15 years in industry, both hardwoods, panels and softwoods, he found his main interest in wood preservation and was works manager for a manufacturer of telegraph poles and railway sleepers. He then went to Bucks New University as lecturer in wood technology and also delivered training for the property care industry.
Work at the university evolved into research and consultancy in all aspects of wood science. For the last ten years he has been busy in consultancy and is editor of the ‘International Wood Products Journal’. He is a fellow of the Institute of Materials and a
member of the International Research Group on Wood Protection.
