September 2016 To the Bowlers of the Amarillo USBC I want to welcome you to the 2016-2017 bowling season! I hope all you had an enjoyable, fun, and safe summer. Our Amarillo USBC board is always striving for continuous improvements. As always, we welcome all comments and suggestions from all members of our association. Please notice this year our tournaments have been changed to align with USBC. We have omitted the men’s tournament since USBC no longer has a men’s tournament. It is now part of the open tournament and the teams have been changed to 5 member teams for this tournament. This tournament is at Eastridge Lanes, on February 25-26, & March 4-5, 2017. The Presidents & Secretaries Tournament is at Western Bowl, on September 10-11, 2016. We would love to see all leagues represented. In November we will have the 32nd Annual Willie Bennett Mixed Tournament. This tournament is now open to all adult bowlers not just for seniors. You will have the choice to bowl team; or team, doubles/singles-All events; or team & doubles. February 4-5 will be the 10th Annual Youth Championship Scholarship Tournament at Western Bowl. March 18-19, 25-26, 2017 we will have the Women’s City Tournament at Western Bowl. I strongly urge you to attend and support our tournaments. Your officers and board of directors looks forward to serving you during the upcoming bowling season. If you have a suggestion to improve league bowling please let any of the officers or directors know. We look forward to any feedback you might have. The decline in membership is an ongoing problem nation-wide and we are very receptive to any suggestions on how we might increase our membership. For Association information visit the Association Website (http://www.amausbc.org) and Facebook Page (www.facebook.com/amausbcassoc). Bowling means friendship so come out, join a bowling league, make many lasting friends and have lots of fun. Let’s continue working to get bowling in Amarillo back to what it use to be, bigger and better than ever. Best wishes to each of you for an exciting and successful 2016-2017 bowling season. The pleasures of Friendship by Stevie Smith
The pleasures of friendship are exquisite,
How pleasant to go to a friend on a visit!
I go to my friend, we walk on the grass,
And the hours and moments like minutes pass.
This poem speaks so elegantly of the time we shared with each
of the bowlers we have lost recently. After all, bowlers are a
great community of people who build friendships. Each of these
individuals will be sorely missed for the character and person-
ality they added to our group here in the Amarillo USBC.
