“I’m a Hilltopper”
Greetings fellow Hilltoppers! The 2015 year is set up to be another exciting one for all WKU supporters. Our teams and student-athletes continue to perform and compete at the highest levels, and to make the year even more special, 2015 marks the 50th anniversary of the Hilltopper Athletic Foundation!
For 50 years, our fans, donors and alumni have supported WKU’s athletes through their generous donations through the HAF. We have lots of exciting things planned to help commemorate and celebrate this milestone. Our theme for the year will be, “I’m a Hilltopper.” As WKU faithful, we take great pride in what it means to be a Hilltopper. That tagline will be prevalent throughout the year, along with a special 50th Anniversary logo for the HAF.
In 2014, the HAF set another record in terms of total members and revenue for the third straight year, and those donations made a direct positive impact on our student-athletes. The collegiate athletic landscape continues to change and evolve, and in order to compete and excel against our peers in the classroom and on the playing field, we must be ready to act. Rising scholarship costs, including the new cost of attendance legislation, create challenges for all athletic departments, and we are not immune to those challenges. With your support, we will be in a much better position to move our Hilltopper teams forward in the ever-changing arena of NCAA Sports.
We are very proud of our tradition, and we are ready to celebrate our 50th anniversary with you. I’m a Hilltopper, and I know you are, too. Thank you for all you do to support WKU Athletics! Go Tops!

How YourMembership Works:Memberships can be obtained through philanthropic giving or with required per seat donations from football, men’s and women’s basketball season ticket purchases, as well as any other required donations pertaining to athletic events. By being a member, you will receive TOP priority for season ticket renewals, season ticket upgrades, parking privileges, away game tickets, postseason events such as conference tournaments, bowl games, and NCAA tournaments.
Top 5 Reasons to Join / Renew Your Membership:1) Your GIFT supports WKU student-athlete scholarships.2) Your GIFT serves as an investment in WKU Athletics.3) Your GIFT qualifies you for WKU season tickets.4) Your GIFT qualifies you for Priority Parking, Postseason Ticket Purchase, and Priority Seat Upgrades.5) Your GIFT is tax deductible (please consult with your tax advisor on the deductible amount of your gift).
Membership Levels, Donor Rank & Priority Points:The HAF donor rank and priority system is utilized to ensure a fair and equitable allocation of assets of WKU Athletic events. It is used when assigning tickets for away and postseason events and parking privileges for home events. The donor rank and priority system is designed to reward loyalty and annual dollar contributions in support of WKU Athletics through memberships with the Hilltopper Athletic Foundation. To take full advantage of benefits and priority points, pledge your support by April 30th.
Understanding Donor Rank & Priority Points:Once your donor member level is determined based on your gift amount, your membership is then ranked within your level based on your total priority points accumulated (additional HAF priority points can be accumulated by donating on or before the PRIORITY DEADLINE of April 30th).
EXAMPLE 1: In 2014, if Jane Doe joined the HAF for the first time and made a $5,000 gift, she would automatically be ranked within the TOP 95 donors since her gift qualified her as an Oldham Level member. Jane would then be ranked amongst all Oldham Level members, based on total points. This is applied to all giving levels. EXAMPLE 2: In 2014, John Smith made a $1,000 gift to the HAF for the 10th consecutive year! Even though his lifetime giving of $10,000 is greater than that of Jane’s $5,000, the highest possible ranking that John could receive is 340.

Topper Up CampaignBeginning with the 2015-16 athletic season, under the approval of the NCAA, universities and athletic programs across the nation will now be implementing “Cost of Attendance” in addition to traditional student-athlete scholarships. WKU currently projects, at minimum, an increase of $3,000 per scholarship in additional costs for student-athletes that receive full and/or partial scholarships to attend and compete for WKU.
For current HAF members, as you continue your commitment to WKU’s academic and competitive excellence, we ask you to consider taking the next step in investing in WKU Athletics through the “TOPPER UP” campaign. Members who contribute at the “next” donor giving level will receive an exclusive gift from the HAF and recognition in football game day programs.
EXAMPLE: In 2014, you contributed $500 (Topper Level) and had a total of 319 priority points giving you a ranking of 633. Participating in the TOPPER UP Campaign, your donation would equal a minimum donation of $1,000 (Big Red Level) for your 2015 membership. By joining the TOPPER UP campaign you will earn an additional 30 priority points with your increased donation (if joined by April 30th) which would then rank you 434. You are now eligible to receive your exclusive gift and take advantage of benefits offered at your new giving level (see pages 7 & 8).
110% Club In 2014, more than 200,000 fans attended WKU home athletic events with 2,100 of them investing in the student-athletes of Western Kentucky University by becoming a member of the HAF. Over 500 members in 2014 went the extra mile by increasing their previous year’s contribution. As always, we value the commitment from the Hilltopper Nation and thank you for your support.
Please join this growing number of individuals by doing a little more for WKU Athletics by being a part of the 110% Club. Each year, these funds are allocated based on WKU’s greatest need inside the athletic department such as scholarships, recruiting budgets, coaches salaries or overall operations.
Hilltopper Athletic Foundation members who contribute 110% of their gift from last year (your gift plus 10%) will receive a special gift from the HAF and recognition in football game day programs.
Example: You contributed $250 (Varsity Level) in 2014. Giving 110% for your 2015 donation would equal a minimum donation of $275. You are now eligible to receive your special gift.
Rank and priority point examples are contingenton all other accounts holding steady.
*Please contact the Hilltopper Athletic Foundation office for additional information on how to increase your support for WKU Athletics through either of these initiatives! Based on your previous years gift, joining the 110% Club may also make you eligible for the Topper Up Campaign. Please contact an HAF representative today at 270-745-5321.

spirit ofexcellence society
“I’m Jim Martens,and I’m a Hilltopper.”HAF Board PresidentBellevue, MI
Creation of Spirit of Excellence SocietyThis year, the Hilltopper Athletic Foundation (HAF) celebrates its 50th anniversary! For the last 50 years, the HAF has made a positive impact on WKU’s student-athletes through the generosity of our faithful fans and supporters.
As a new member of Conference USA, WKU is now competing against larger schools with bigger budgets and exceptional teams across all sports. Based on increasing scholarship costs and a financially competitive landscape, the need for additional funding is very apparent. A new giving campaign, the Spirit of Excellence Society, is now created for WKU’s donors to participate in a meaningful way to positively impact the experience for our student-athletes.
New Giving LevelsA new giving level of $25,000 (Champion) annually will be created in the HAF annual giving levels, and all donors at the $25,000 (Champion), $15,000 (Diddle) and $10,000 (Feix) levels will be members of the new Spirit of Excellence Society (refer to pages 7 and 8 for listing of all annual benefits).
Areas of Greatest Need Dollars generated through the Spirit of Excellence Society will be used for the following areas of greatest need:
Scholarship Cost Cost of Attendance Facility Enhancements/Upgrades Coaches Salaries Program Operations
“I support WKU because it is such a big part of my life. I came here in the fall of ‘68 from Bellevue, MI, to attend WKU, and when I graduated, I didn't want to leave. Eva and I have four children, all WKU grads and our oldest granddaughter is a sophomore. WKU Football and Basketball games are family events with our children and grandchildren. How could I not give back to a University that has blessed me and my family so much? GO TOPS!”

Frequently Asked QuestionsWhat does my HAF membership go towards? All HAF gifts go towards supporting student-athlete scholarships at WKU. In 2014, the total scholarship cost for all WKU student-athletes was $6,700,172.
Do I need to make separate donations for football and basketball? No. Your gift to the HAF covers all three sports that offer priority seating – football, men’s basketball and women’s basketball. However, your donation must meet the appropriate minimum contribution level in each sport to secure priority seating in that respective area. Harbaugh Club gifts are tax-deductible; however, these gifts do not count towards donation requirements for priority season tickets.
How can I increase my HAF donor ranking? The simplest and quickest way to increase your priority standing is to donate at a higher giving level (i.e. Topper Up Campaign, pg 9). Think of it as a bracket system. Based on the membership chart on page 6, if you donate $50, the highest rank you could have achieved in 2014 was 1,634 (out of 2,048). If you increased your gift to $100, you would find yourself ranked potentially as high as 1,210, depending on your total accumulated priority points (see page 6). The same applies to someone who donates $750 - the highest rank they could achieve in 2014 was 474. If they increased their gift by an additional $250, they would find themselves in the Big Red ($1,000) membership level and be ranked as high as 340.
How do I obtain reserved parking for athletic events? In 2014, any HAF member that joined at the $100 Varsity level and purchased women’s basketball tickets received a parking permit. Any HAF member that joined at the $250 Loyalty level and purchased season tickets for football and/or men’s basketball received a parking permit. Please refer to pages 13-16 in this guide for sport-specific parking information. Parking locations are allocated based on member priority, as explained on pages 5-6.
How can I upgrade my current seats? Please contact the HAF office at 270-745-5321 or simply make your request along with your football or basketball season ticket renewal which will be sent to you in March and July, respectively. Upgrade requests will be considered based on availability and HAF member priority.

The Hilltopper Athletic Foundation
was established in 1965 to provide
the necessary scholarship funding
to allow as many student-athletes
as possible the opportunity for an
athletic and academic experience
at Western Kentucky University and
to further support WKU Athletics
through private support and visibility.
