PRACTICE DIRECTIVE
CHAPTER ONE
Objective, Content, Basis and Definitions
OBJECTIVE;
Article 1.
The objective of this article is, to plan the practices of the Hacettepe University Faculty of Health
Sciences Department of Language and Speech Therapy students will do at abroad and domestic
institutions/companies that are approved by the Administration of Department of Language and
Speech Therapy, and by defining the duties and responsibilities regarding practices, executing
the practice applications, specifying the activities related to applications, fundamentals of
practice application evaluations, the methods, fundamentals, rules and procedures to be
accorded, organizing the application.

BASIS
Article 3. This directive is prepared based on the 16th and 18th articles of Hacettepe University
Associate Degree, Graduate Degree Education and Examination Regulations dated 28
September 2012.

responsible for practice courses and student representative in order to plan, coordinate,
execute, control and evaluate practice activities at the Department of Speech and
Language Therapy
h. Department Practice Coordinator: Faculty member assigned by the Chair of Department
in order to chair the department practice commission
i. Student Affairs Unit: Student Affairs Unit of Hacettepe University Department of Speech

j. SSI: Social Security Institution
k. Institution/Company of Practice: Institutions/Companies that trainees will do
must/elective practices
l. Host Institution/Company Superintendent: Superintendent at the
institutions/companies that trainees do practices
m. Practice Supervisor: The faculty member and/or Audiology and Speech Disorder
Specialist/ Language and Speech Disorder Therapist who observes the student at the
host institution/company and confirms the practice documents
n. Trainee: Student who does practice/internship
o. Practice Duration: The duration specified in the curriculum
SECOND CHAPTER
Department Practice Commission, Practice Courses and Fundamentals
Department Practice Commission and Its Missions
Article 5.
Practice Commission: Planning, coordination, execution, control of the practices, company and
evaluation of practice exams were carried out by the Department Practice Commission. Practice
Commission consists of 1(one) chairperson and 2(two) members who are chosen among the
department lecturers by the Administration of the Department. One of the members is student
representative. This Commission works in coordination with the practice course lecturers,
academic advisors and institutions/companies of practice and ensures the execution of practice
process.
Missions of the Commission are as follows:
1) Specifying the fundamentals regarding practice,
2) Examining practice applications, evaluating their acceptability and designating the
practice dates,
3) Helping students in assuring their host institution/company,
4) Distributing the students who applied for practice to the host institutions/companies,
5) Taking necessary precautions to ensure an efficient practice process,
6) Tracking the attendance of students, guiding their studies and controlling them during
the practice
7) Examining, controlling and evaluating the practice report files with the academic advisor
of the students,
8) Coordinating and evaluating the practice examinations.
PRACTICE COURSES Article 6. Practice courses consist of must and elective practice courses. Must practice courses consist of DKT 290 Summer Practice I, DKT 390 Summer Practice II, DKT 403 Clinical Observation and Practice in Speech and Language Disorders I, DKT 404 Clinical Observation and Practice in Speech and Language Disorders II, DKT 406 Language Disorder Practice, DKT 407 Voice Disorders Practice, DKT 409 Speech Disorders Practice. Elective Practice Courses consist of DKT 421 Craniofacial Anomalies Practice, DKT 422 Neurogenic Motor Speech Disorders Practice, DKT 423 Fluency Disorders Practice, DKT 424 Swallowing Disorders Practice, DKT 425 Articulation and Phonetic Disorders Practice and DKT 426 Auditory Rehabilitation Practice. Practice courses are credit courses and they are indicated in curricula. FUNDAMENTALS OF PRACTICE Article 7. In order to take practice courses the students must provide the prerequisites that are defined in the ECTS Course Information Pack. DKT 290 Summer Practice I can be taken after the end of 4th semester of undergraduate education, on condition that relevant prerequisites are provided. DKT 390 Summer Practice II can be taken after the end of 6th semester of undergraduate education, on condition that relevant prerequisites are provided.
Practice Duration and Attendance Article 8. Must and elective practice courses are planned for 20 weekdays consisting of 4 weeks; DKT 290 Summer Practice I and DKT 390 Summer Practice II courses as 6 hours/day, DKT 403, DKT 404, DKT 406, DKT 407, DKT 409, DKT 421, DKT 422, DKT 423, DKT 424, DKT 425, DKT 426 courses as 4 hours/day. Article 9. Attendance is compulsory. On all the absences more than 20% of the practice duration (including sick reports), in accordance with the 22nd article of Hacettepe University Associate Degree, Graduate Degree Education and Examination Regulations, students repeat the practice in the first semester it opens. Places to do Practice Article 10 – Students may do their practices at Hacettepe University or other institutions/companies under the mentorship of an Auditory and Speech Disorders Specialist and/or an expert language and speech therapist. The institutions for practice are designated in cooperation with related institutions by Department Practice Commission. With the proposal of Department Practice Commission and confirmation of the Deanship, practices can be done at the equivalent institutions that are acceptable for the relevant practice and determined through personal initiatives or various international programs abroad. Institutions/companies acceptable for practice are listed below:
1) Hacettepe University Hospitals and application centers, 2) Relevant application centers, departments and clinics of hospitals, 3) Special education and rehabilitation institutions/companies with an auditory and speech
disorders specialist and/or an expert language and speech therapist, 4) Aged care facilities, 5) Physiotherapy and rehabilitation centers, 6) Other than these, the health institutions/companies accepted by Department Practice
Commission. Article 11 – Students are supposed to find host institutions/companies themselves. However, deanship and department administration may make any kind of attempt in order to make it easier for the students to find an acceptable practice place.
THIRD CHAPTER Practice Process and Fundamentals of Execution
Practice Process and Execution
Article 12. Students are supposed to prepare the required documents, examine the completion
of them during the practice and deliver them to the supervisor at the end of the practice. They
are supposed to comply with this procedure below:
1) Students are supposed to initiate the procedures in accordance with the specified rules.
2) Students are supposed to receive the practice file before it starts.
3) Students are supposed to fill in Student Practice Application Form (Attachment 1) and
Acceptance Form (Attachment 2), and to receive their student certificates and get the
supervisor fill in and confirm them.
4) Department Practice Commission requests an evaluation of the convenience of the
practice place from the Department Administration. After the confirmation of the
practice place by the Department Administration, students are supposed to deliver the
document with an attachment of bill of health that they will get from SSI to the
Registrar’s Office. Registrar’s Office is supposed to fulfill the insurance transactions of
the students.
5) The student whose practice is approved is supposed to commence his/her practice in
due time.
6) Students cannot change their place of practice after they commence beyond the
knowledge and approval of Department Practice Commission. When a change of
practice place is required, the students are supposed to fill in Practice Place Change/
Cancellation Form (Attachment 3) and deliver it to the Department Practice Commission
in 2 (two) days at the latest after having confirmation from both the previous and new
places. Otherwise, the students are supposed to incur the debts regarding the social
security contributions. The students whose practices are cancelled are considered to fail
the course.
7) Students are supposed to deliver the Intern Student Clinic Observation Evaluation/
Intern Student Clinic Practice Evaluation Forms (Attachment 4) to the supervisors. After
the forms are confirmed by the supervisors at the end of the practice, they are sent via
mail in closed envelopes with the seal of the company on them or delivered to the
students.
8) Students are traced through Practice Attendance and Activity Trace Table (Attachment
5) and this is confirmed by the mentor and supervisor.
9) Students are supposed to record the total practice hours and case/patient number that
they have during their practice in Practice Clinic Observation and Practice Activity Table
(Attachment 6) and make sure to get them confirmed by the supervisors.
10) Students are supposed to record their activities during their practice in the Intern
Student Practice Report (Attachment 7) regularly.
11) Students are supposed to state their opinions about practice place and specialist in the
Practice Place and Mentor Evaluation Form (Attachment 8) at the end of their practice.
12) The student who completes his/her practice fill in the Practice Completion Form
(Attachment 9) and makes sure to get it confirmed by his/her mentor and supervisor.
13) Practice File is delivered to the Department Practice Commission after the end of
practice.
14) Students are supposed to abide by the decrees of Higher Education Institutions Student
Discipline Regulations and working rules of the host institution/company. All the issues
arising out of violation of these rules are student’s responsibility.
15) Students may not inform others on confidential records and issues about services and
activities, on records of patient reports and may not violate the ethical rules.
Tracking and Controlling the Practice
Article 13. The Auditory and Speech Disorders Specialist and/or an Expert Language and Speech
Therapist are responsible for tracking and controlling the process at the practice place. Each
supervisor tracks and controls the process and makes sure it is executed in accordance with the
objectives and procedures. When necessary, supervisors make contact with the host
institutions/companies, visit them and get information about the trainee. The Department
Practice Commission notifies fundamentals and content of the control to the relevant
supervisors and mentors in writing.
Disciplinary Action for Practice
Article 14. Trainee students are supposed to abide by the work conditions and disciplinary and
safety rules of their practice place. Decrees of Higher Education Institutions Student Discipline
Regulations are valid for the trainees during their practice.
Cases of Sickness and Accidents during Practice
Article 15. The practice of the student who gets ill or cannot continue practice because of a
sickness or who have an accident is ceased and the situation is notified to the Department
Practice Commission and Department Administration.
CHAPTER FOUR
Evaluation of Practice, Practice Exit Examination and Practice Exemption
Article 16. Must and elective practice courses are evaluated in accordance with the following
rules:
1) Practice course instructors examine the practice reports of the students, inscribe his/her
evaluation results in the relevant part of the Practice Commission Evaluation Report,
confirm and deliver them to the Department Practice Commission.
2) Students are supposed to repeat the practice until they pass it.
3) The practice evaluation results of the students are conveyed to Registrar’s Office by the
Department Practice Commission. Students may object to the practice evaluation results
of the Department Practice Commission within the frame of undergraduate regulations.

Various and Final Provisions
Other Issues
Article 17. During the practice, a protocol including the practice conditions, permissions,
missions and responsibilities of the parties and the relevant other issues can be signed between
the student and the host institution/company in accordance with the legislation in force.
Article 18. Decrees of “Hacettepe University Associate Degree, Graduate Degree Education and
Examination Regulations”, which came in force by being gazetted on 28 September 2012 with
number 28425, are valid in situations for which there are no provisions in this directive.
Enforcement
Article 19. This directive comes into force from the date it is approved by the Hacettepe University Senate.
Execution
Article 20. This directive is executed by the Hacettepe University Rector.
