The challenge is to create a site plan template for a low rise multi-use model block that would

integrate the diverse elements of the existing neighborhood, include the vested community

through a transparent process, preserve existing character and be sustainable. We will

primarily focus today on the following areas:

• Architecture

• Public/Green Space

• Social Community Program

• Energy

Architecture:

Solution• Multiple scales of buildings with

flexible resilient ground floors

Benefits

• Increased quality of life

• Economic benefit – micro retail

• Service amenities

• Views and lighting

Decentralized Energy :

Solution• Shared sustainable energy “verbund”

across – energy reuse from

manufacturing to residential use

Benefits

• Symbiotic relationship

• Reduce consumption increase

reuse i.e. storm water

• Promotes sustainability & reduce $ Integrated Energy Community

Participants and roles that team or individuals could take for implementation

• Supporter/Mentor - to local Red Hook based professional design community – example work from other areas, borrowed

ideas processes, as well as direct design support

• Community based groups taking leadership roles in the process

with buildings sharing

energy from different

sources, e.g. solar:
