• Watch-Out #3- Wrong Wall

Page 12: Habit II Begin with the End in Mind. Personal Mission Statement A personal mission statement is like a personal motto that states what your life is about.

Watch-Out #1- Negative Labels

• Labels are an ugly form of prejudice• Look at the word prejudice, if you

break it down, you get pre-judge• That means that you are developing

an opinion before you have all of the information

• Don’t let the labels get to you- try to change them, don’t become them

Page 13: Habit II Begin with the End in Mind. Personal Mission Statement A personal mission statement is like a personal motto that states what your life is about.

Watch-Out #2-“It’s All Over” Syndrome

• When you make mistakes, take them in stride

• Don’t get the “It’s over attitude”, “I can’t do it”, “There’s no use”

• It’s not all over, everyone makes mistakes

• The difference is between those who learn from them, and those who do not learn from them

Page 14: Habit II Begin with the End in Mind. Personal Mission Statement A personal mission statement is like a personal motto that states what your life is about.

Watch-Out #3- Wrong Wall

• Have you ever wanted something so badly and when you got it, it’s not as great as you thought it would be?

• A lot of times we are so worried about some things that we lose sight of what really matters

Page 15: Habit II Begin with the End in Mind. Personal Mission Statement A personal mission statement is like a personal motto that states what your life is about.

Watch-Out #3- Wrong Wall

• We are so busy climbing the ladder of success that we never take time to see if the ladder is leaning against the right wall

• Having no end in mind is a problem• Having the wrong end in mind can be

an even bigger one, because it can lead you in the wrong direction

Page 16: Habit II Begin with the End in Mind. Personal Mission Statement A personal mission statement is like a personal motto that states what your life is about.

Go for the Goal• Once you have your mission in place

you will want to set goals• Goals are more specific than the

mission statement and can help you break the statement into bite-sized pieces

• If your personal mission statement was to eat a pizza, your goal would be how to slice it

Page 17: Habit II Begin with the End in Mind. Personal Mission Statement A personal mission statement is like a personal motto that states what your life is about.

5 Keys to Success• Key #1- Count the Cost• Key #2- Put it in Pen• Key #3- Just Do It!!• Key #4- Use Momentous

Page 18: Habit II Begin with the End in Mind. Personal Mission Statement A personal mission statement is like a personal motto that states what your life is about.

Key #1- Count the Cost

• Many times we set goals and aren’t able to reach them

• This happens because we have not counted the cost

• You have to know what is going to be required in order for you to reach the goal

Page 19: Habit II Begin with the End in Mind. Personal Mission Statement A personal mission statement is like a personal motto that states what your life is about.

Key #2- Put it in Pen• Writing down your goals forces

you to be specific

• You have to know exactly what your goal is; putting it on paper can help to make it clearer

Page 20: Habit II Begin with the End in Mind. Personal Mission Statement A personal mission statement is like a personal motto that states what your life is about.

Key #3- Just Do It!!• You know what you want to do,

now DO IT!!!• Once you are fully committed

to doing a task, your power to complete it will increase

• Those who are committed always find a way pg. 96

Page 21: Habit II Begin with the End in Mind. Personal Mission Statement A personal mission statement is like a personal motto that states what your life is about.

Key #4- Use Momentous Moments

• Certain moments in life contain momentum and power

• Things with beginning and ends carry momentum

• Ex. The beginning of a new year represents a start, breaking up represents an end

• Often, tough experiences carry momentum, setbacks and tragedies can often be a springboard for change

Page 22: Habit II Begin with the End in Mind. Personal Mission Statement A personal mission statement is like a personal motto that states what your life is about.

Key #4- Use Momentous Moments

• A new school year• A life-changing

experience• Breaking up• A new job• A new relationship• Birth• Death• An anniversary• A new month

• Moving • A new season• Graduation• Marriage• Divorce• A new home• A promotion• A demotion• A new look• A new day

Page 23: Habit II Begin with the End in Mind. Personal Mission Statement A personal mission statement is like a personal motto that states what your life is about.

Key #5- Rope Up• Learn to borrow strength from others• Try to find someone else with a goal

similar to yours• Tell you parents about your goal and get

some advice • Get help from those who want to help you

to succeed• The more ropes you put out, the greater

your chance is for success p.98

Turning Weaknesses into Strengths

• People who lack the natural physical, social, or mental gifts they desire must fight that much harder

• That uphill battle can produce qualities and strengths they couldn’t develop any other way

• That is how a weakness becomes a strength

Page 25: Habit II Begin with the End in Mind. Personal Mission Statement A personal mission statement is like a personal motto that states what your life is about.

Make your life extraordinary

• Life is short, make the most of it

• Carpe Diem- Seize the Day!

• You don’t have to change the world to have a mission

“Most of us will never do great things. But we can do small things in great ways.”
