Abstract: During the mid-twentieth century, many countries around the World “made
national social and economic development a major priority. Influenced in part by both
economic and sociological theories (human capital theory and modernization theory
particularly), scholars and policymakers believed that universal schooling could be
achieved; and that an investment in schooling and an increase in the supply of educated
workers would lead to improved social and economic conditions in the world. Indeed
during this period, the international educational institution expanded dramatically”. 1During this period, Dr. Habib Kurani was working tirelessly at AUB to enhance the
system of education in Lebanon and the Middle East.
