BOARD OF GOVERNORS OF THE FEDERAL RESERVE SYSTEM H.4.2 (For Immediate Release) October 14, 1959 CONDITION OF WEEKLY REPORTING MEMBER BANKS IN LEADING CITIES The condition statement of weekly reporting member banks in leading cities shows the following principal changes for the week ended October 7: A decrease of $389 million in holdings of U. S. Government securities; increases of $270 million in demand deposits credited to domestic banks and $1,110 million in borrowings; and a decrease of $1,442 million in U. S. Government demand d e p o s i t s . Commercial and industrial loans increased $21 million at all r e p o r t i n g member banks. Loans to nonbank financial institutions decreased $133 million. Holdings of Treasury bills decreased $312 million and holdings of Treasury notes and U. S. Government bonds decreased $126 million, and Treasury certificates of indebtedness increased $4 '9 million. Time deposits other than interbank decreased $91 million of which $71 ""million was m deposits of individuals, partnerships, and corporations.
