EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

This guide explains the best way to successfully install and configure an IBM WebSphere Application Server 8.5.5.2 with EMC

Documentum xCP in a clustered environment to enable high availability and failover. WebSphere Application server needs

minimum 3 nodes for Memory-to-memory replication, which is required for WebSphere failover. Configure the cluster with the

widely used IBM HTTP Server as the Load balancer, through which users can access the xCP application.

AUDIENCE

This guide addresses the Customers, Tech Support Engineers, Developers and Testers who understand the process of installing

and configuring IBM WebSphere Application Server 8.5.5.2 on multiple machines in a clustered environment with load balancing

and the configurations needed to deploy the xCP application on a WebSphere cluster. We assume that you possess working

knowledge of Documentum xCP. The xCP Deployment Guide provides further details on the deployment procedures on xCP

stack.

CONFIGURING IBM WEBSPHERE APPLICATION SERVER IN A CLUSTER

The procedure of setting up WebSphere cluster includes the task of installation and configurations on multiple computers. You

will need four computers at minimum.

First machine will have Deployment manager and WebSphere AppServer instance (Node1).

Second and Third machine (Node2 and Node3 machines) will have WebSphere AppServer instance.

Fourth machine (LoadBalancer machine) will have IBM Http Server configured for load balancing.

You must perform the following tasks to configure the IBM WebSphere cluster on a 3 node clustered environment. Detailed steps

for each task are given in the next section.

First install IBM installation manager on Deployment manager, both WebSphere AppServer instance machines and load

balancer.

Install the WebSphere Application Server Network Deployment 8.5.5.2.

Install WebSphere Application Server 8.5.5.2.

Install the IBM HTTP Server 8.5.5.2.

Configure the XMS to the cluster set up and deploy the xCP application on cluster.

Note: Install the supported JAVA SDK in all the machines using the IBM installation manager if it’s different from the default

JAVA that gets installed.

High level diagram of WebSphere cluster with IBM HTTP Server can be seen in Fig 1:

PROVISIONING THE ENVIRONMENT FOR XCP AND VERIFICATION OF

DEPLOYMENT

Once all the app server nodes on the cluster are started and all are accessible, the cluster environment has to be provisioned in

xMS to deploy the xCP application. Please follow the xCP Deployment Guide for provisioning the entire xCP stack . Here you will

look at registering the WebSphere nodes.

For the Apphost service websphereEndpoint provide details as given below:

WebSphere Connector Port:8879, obtained from WebSphere Console under System Administration > Deployment Manager

> Ports > Soap_Connector_Address (Please check the screenshot below).

WebSphere Cell Name: The cell name is obtained from System Administration > Deployment Manager, click Runtime tab

and take the value from Cell name.

WebSphere Node Name: The node name is obtained from System Administration > Deployment Manager, click Runtime tab

and take the value from Node name.

WebSphere server Name: This is the cluster name that was created under Creating Cluster section.

WebSphere Virtual Host: By default all nodes would be deployed with deafult_host as the virtual host.

WebSphere Shared Libraries: Name of the Shared library that is created. Please check xCP Deployment Guide for more info

on this.

Cluster Enabled: Check this to specify the cluster environment.

Once the environment is registered with xMS, the xCP Application can be deployed by specifying the xMS details in the designer.

After deploying the xCP application into the Cluster setup , we need to update the plugin-cfg.xml file of load balancer.

Login to the LoadBalancer Machine.

Navigate to the folder locations C:\Program Files (x86)\IBM\WebSphere\Plugins\config\webserver1 and C:\Program Files

(x86)\IBM\WebSphere\AppServer\profiles\Custom01\config\cells\node1Cell01\nodes\LBNode01\servers\webserver1.

Note: The paths might change based on your configurations.

Open the plugin-cfg.xml , under the element

<UriGroup Name="default_host_cluster01_URIs">

Add the element <Uri AffinityCookie="JSESSIONID" AffinityURLIdentifier="jsessionid" Name="/<Application Name>/*"/>

Do not restart the Load Balancer services or nodes.

Access the Application by Load Balancer url http://<LBNode IP>/<Application Name>/signin.jsp

In order to verify the deployment of xCP application in each of the nodes, open the WebSphere Console and navigate to

Servers > Server Types > WebSphere Application server > clone1 > Installed applications.
