HOW TO REGISTERTo assure your place in a class, sign up now online or in person at the Community Education and Services Office. No one is permitted to enter a class without registering first. Parents may now register ONLINE for children’s classes.

*Registrants may only attend the classes for which they are registered. There will be NO make-up classes, including absences for illness, inclement weather or holidays.

FEESFees are listed with each course description. There is a $20 fee added to all Adult Education programs for non-residents.

CANCELLATIONS/CHANGESCourses below minimum registration may be cancelled or have the total number of hours adjusted to meet self-sustaining guidelines. If necessary, rooms may be reassigned to ensure classroom spaces remain available for district academic programs and events.

CONFIRMATIONSUnless otherwise notified by the Community Education and Services Office of a class change or cancellation, your child should report to the first class session. We recommend you contact us 72 hours before the class to verify your registration. You will be contacted only if class is cancelled or postponed.

PARKINGPark in appropriate areas marked for visitor parking or you may receive a ticket. Numbered parking spots are available after 4:00 p.m. Do not use handicapped parking without a permit. Do not park in fire lanes, unauthorized parking lots or in the back of Woodmere Education Center. Parking is limited.

SAFETY AND SECURITYThe safety and security of all students, staff, faculty, and visitors is a high priority of the Board of Education and administration. We ask for your full cooperation in complying with all rules and regulations while on school grounds and in our buildings. In the event of an emergency, please follow the directions provided by the responding school personnel.

REFUND REQUESTSRefunds will only be granted for the following reasons:

Refunds Prior to the Start of Class: Refunds will only be granted if a written request is received in the Office of Community Education and Services no later than five days prior to the beginning of classes. A $10 cancellation fee will be deducted from the original fee paid. Cancellation requests received after the five days prior to the start of classes will receive no refund.

Refunds Due to Insufficient Registration or Instructor Cancellation: There must be sufficient registration to cover the cost of providing each class. If the District cancels a class, or the instructor cancels the class, a full refund will be credited to your account. There will be no cancellation fee.

Refunds Due to a Medical Emergency: Prorated refunds may be granted if a written request, accompanied by a doctor’s note, is submitted. The doctor’s note must state that the person is not able to participate in the specific activity for which he/she is registered. There will be no cancellation fee.

HEWLETT HIGH SCHOOL POOL:Swim Lessons and Public Swim Sessions are ONLY open to HWSD #14 residents. Proof of residency is required and must be presented upon sign-in at the pool. During public swim sessions, one lap lane is set up for lap swimmers. During the Family Swim sessions, all children under the age of 7 MUST be accompanied by a parent or guardian over the age of 18. All people who go through the pool lobby doors and enter the pool deck area must pay the admission fees. Swim aid devices ARE NOT permitted to be used in the pool except during structured lessons. All rules are posted at the pool. Food and beverages are NOT allowed in the pool complex.

Aqua Exercise and Beginner Swim LessonsFirst half is a warm-up and 45 minutes of a total body workout that doesn’t require you to know how to swim. The next 45 minutes is learn-to-swim. If you are fearful of water – this class is for you! Bring bathing suit and towel.

Aqua Aerobics and ExerciseIf you are looking for an effective way to get into shape, join us for exercise in the pool. Emphasis is on limbering, slimming, and stretch-ing muscles, while promoting a general feeling of well-being. This class is designed for swimmers and non-swimmers. Bring bathing suit and towel.

Early Morning Lap SwimThis is an early morning swim exercise program that will help improve your overall health and muscle tone. Work out and swim at your own pace in shared lanes assigned by the lifeguard. Circular laps within lanes are required with three swimmers or more per lane. Bring bathing suit and towel. Registration is open to District 14 adult residents over the age of 18 ONLY.

Evening Lap SwimCan’t do a 5:30 a.m. workout? Do a Tuesday night lap swim!

Exercise – Yoga StyleThis exercise class combines yoga postures, breathing, and meditation in a well-rounded work-out. Each class will begin with a brief meditation to relax your body. The core of this class will focus on the incorporation of breathing with yoga postures. Your exercise experience will conclude with savasanas (a relaxation time). This gentle yoga style class will help reduce stress, leaving you feeling energized and relaxed! Bring an exercise mat and wear comfortable clothes.

Exercise with WeightsThis class will improve your posture, strength, and balance through the use of weights and body resistance. Bring two to three pound weights (optional). Wear loose, comfortable clothing and aerobic footwear. Bring an exercise mat and a towel.

Pilates/Pilates on the BallPilates has become a popular form of exercise for a good reason: it enables you to produce healthy results through a system of unique stretching and strengthening exercises. You will see and feel improved muscle tone, flexibility, balance, posture, and a trimmer body. Pilates enables your mind and body to work together for results. Wear loose, comfortable clothes and bring an exercise mat. Using a stability ball boosts resistance, increases range of motion, and adds a balance ele-ment. Size of ball should be either 45cm or 55cm. See instructor on first day of class. All levels welcome. Check with your physician before registering for this or other exercise classes. Morning AerobicsStart your day off with an invigorating, stress-reducing, and fat-burning workout by stepping up to improved fitness. Bring two to three pound weights (optional). Wear loose, comfortable clothing and aerobic footwear. Bring an exercise mat and towel.

Toddler ExplorersParticipation in this class will help develop your child’s social skills and coordination through activities that include art, singing, movement, instrument play, story time, games, basketball and exercise. Materials fee is included in the price.

Tot-Time for Children 12-24 Months OldPhysical education for your baby! Child must be able to walk by the first class. Learn the fun of exercise at an early age.

Exercise Through Play for 2–3 Year OldsFor children who are almost two years old and older. Learn to perform with balance, agility and overall physical fitness for both guardian and child through the wonderful world of play.

Adult BasketballStay fit by dropping by for our Adult “Drop-In” basketball program. Participation on the court is limited during any given season. Court assignment and rotating game times will be determined by the Open Gym supervisor. Some nights may be cancelled due to school events. No high school players allowed. Adults 21 years of age or older. Students are prohibited from playing in the Adult Open Gym program. This is a pay as you go drop-in program. The fee is charged per session.

Adult SwimThe pool at Hewlett High School is open from Sept. 27th – May 30th, Wednesday evenings from 8:30 p.m. – 10:00 p.m. (District 14 Adult Residents Only)

Family SwimThe pool at Hewlett High School is open from Oct. 13th – June 3rd.(District 14 Residents Only See schedule for days and times.)

Pool PassesPool passes are available for purchase at the Community Education and Services office for children and adults. These passes are for admission into the open swim sessions. (District 14 Residents Only)

ZumbaZumba is a choreographed Latin dance class that has easy-to-follow moves, and offers calorie-burning, body-energizing and awe-inspiring movements in one exciting hour.

New York DMV Learner’s Permit Online Test The NYS Department of Motor Vehicles Online Knowledge Test (OKTA) is the first-of-its-kind program designed to allow high school students to take the permit test in their own local school via the internet. Students are required to register at the Community Education and Services office and bring their birth certificate or passport. Please bring picture identification to the testing site for verification purposes on the day of the exam. High school students 15 and older are eligible.
