try. Members are needed! The next SVDP meeting is Wednesday, September 8 at 8:45 AM in the Holy Trinity Parish Hall.
Thank you to those who have participated in the 16th annual Seminarian Collection: Hope for the Future, Help them Today. There is still time to respond to the great need we have to support our local seminarians. Have you made your gift? So far this year our parishes have raised $7,888. Last year, we raised a total of $10,970. Let’s see if we can increase our support of this important part of the mission of the Diocese of Green Bay. Disciples need to support one another. Make your gift today by mailing in your pledge card or visit www.catholicfoundationgb.org/give.

Thank you to the Knights of Columbus for taking on the project of renovating the old boiler building. The inside was painted, a new door
was installed, bricks were replaced, the floor was raised to ground level, and new window glass was installed. We are grateful to have this building for storage. Knights of Columbus Family of the Month for August is Nicholas & Kelly Wuhrman. Knight of the Month is Don Richter. The Knights thank you for all you do.
22nd Sunday in Ordinary Time Today’s Liturgy of the Word explains what true religion is. It is not simply a scrupulous, external observance of rules, laws, and rituals. It is a loving, obedient relationship with God expressed in obeying His Commandments, worshipping Him, recognizing His presence in other human beings, and rendering them loving and humble service. Jesus uses the occasion as a teachable moment to give us the following lessons:
1) Don’t teach human doctrines as dogmas of Faith. 2) Sincerity of heart, internal disposition, purity, and holiness are more important than mere external ritual observances. 3) External piety without internal holiness is hypocrisy. What do we learn from today’s Liturgy? We need to learn and keep the spirit of the Church’s laws and ritual practices. For example, our Sunday obligation is intended to allow us to worship God in the parish community, to offer our lives to God, to ask His pardon for sins, to thank God for His blessings, and to receive Divine Life and strength from Him in Holy Com-munion. Our daily family prayers are meant to thank God for His blessings, to present the family’s needs before God, to ask pardon for sins, to maintain the spirit of unity and love in the family, and to keep a close relationship with God. Let us avoid the tendency to become cafeteria Christians that is, to choose certain Commandments and Church laws to follow, and to ignore the others as we choose certain food items and ignore others in a cafeteria. Have a Blessed Sunday! Fr. Nusi
