HOLY CROSS CATHOLIC CHURCH 9371 WIGHAM STREET THORNTON, CO. 80229
Every fourth Sunday of Easter the Church in her wisdom
proclaims to us the Gospel of the Good Shepherd. What does a good Shepherd? The gospel answers us: “Jesus said: I
am the good shepherd. A good shepherd lays down his life
for the sheep.” This aspect is a new one that Jesus intro-
duced as St. John Paul II wrote, “Taking up this image of the
Good Shepherd, Jesus revealed an aspect of the Good Shep-
herd’s love that the Old Testament had not yet divined: to
lay one’s life for the sheep.” This gospel hits my heart very
strong, because it calls me to follow the steps of the true
shepherd Jesus Christ, and to follow his steps means to do
what Christ did that is to give one’s life, and this my broth-ers and sisters are not easy sometimes when the sheep are
being attacked by wolves as the gospel mentioned.
When I began praying to prepare this reflection. I revisited
some aspects that Canon Law mentions about the office of
being a shepherd which means Pastor. It says “A pastor is
obliged to make provision so that the word of God is pro-
claimed in its entirety to those living in the parish” (Can.
528 §1).The pastor is to see to it that the Most Holy Eucha-
rist is the center of the parish assembly of the faithful. (Can. 528, 2). In order to fulfill his office diligently, a pastor is to
strive to know the faithful entrusted to his care. (Can. 529
§1).
This is my dear brothers and sisters what I tried to do for
you, in the best way I can, knowing that also your pastor is
a very weak and poor man, that has many short comings, but who sincerely looks to love the Lord.
Yours in Christ,
Fr. Warli Castro
quia" (Can 528 §1).
(Can 528, 2).
do. (Can 529 §1).
P. Warli Castro
