Damage from Earthquake3 million people in need of emergency aid after

major earthquake

The Red Cross dispatched a relief team from Geneva and the UN's World Food Program is flying in two planes with emergency food aid.

The Inter-American Development Bank said it was immediately approving a $200,000 grant for emergency aid.

According to French historian Moreau de Saint-Mery, “only one masonry building had not collapsed” in Port-au-Prince, Haiti’s capital

(3 June): The city was leveled in this magnitude 7.5 quake, which killed over 200 people

May 7th 1842: An earthquake destroyed the city of Cap-Haitien and other towns in the north of Haiti and the Dominican Republic; this earthquake also destroyed the Sans-Souci Palace. 10,000 people were killed.

Haiti- Red CrossThe global Red Cross network has helped nearly

1.9 million Haitians since the country’s last earthquake.

It has so far spent or allocated $82 million to meet the most urgent needs of the earthquakes survivors and will continue to support hundreds of thousands of additional survivors in the years ahead until the last donated dollar is spent.

It is also providing support to Haitian families in the US, shipping blood products to the region and restoring family links for separated loved ones.

treated by Red Cross health care facilities

More than 60,000 people have been vaccinated for multiple diseases

More than 31,500 families received items like hygiene kits and other basic relief supplies.
