Guildford McCredie Uniting Soccer Club – 2015 Annual Report

Firstly I’d like to thank everybody here at Guildford McCredie for a fantastic 2015 season, our club grew in numbers again this year and many of our teams tasted success both at the six-a-side competition in June and at the recent President’s Cup finals. Most recently a number of people and players from our club attended the CFFA National Soccer Titles competition at Narrabeen. It was a great experience again this year both from a football and social perspective. Of particular note were the NSW City U18’s who were coached by our own Greg Wark and the NSW City U23’s coached by Darren McGuire, with both teams winning their respective competitions. A special mention should also be made regarding a number of our McCredie U15 girls who made themselves available to play for the South Australian U16 girls National Titles team who were short of players for the competition. Our girls played themselves to a stand still and thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience, this to me symbolised what the true spirit of the Guildford McCredie Uniting Soccer Club is all about. Finally, thank you to all our club committee members, our coaches, managers, players and all the families and friends who have supported our teams throughout the year, you have all made this a most enjoyable season. I wish you all the best during the summer and I expect to see you all back again next year. Peter Warwick Club President

Guildford McCredie Uniting Soccer Club – 2015 Annual Report

In Guildford McCredie Uniting Soccer Club’s seventeenth season we were able to field nine junior teams: one each in the Under 17, 15, 14, 13, 11 and 10 age groups, two in the under 12 age group and an U15 Girls team; three small sided teams: two under 9s and an under 8; four mini teams, two under 7s and two under 6s; four senior men’s teams in the Premier League competition, Challenge Cup and Over 35s and an All Age Ladies team – a total of 21 teams. This is five additional teams on our 2014 numbers and the second most number of teams that we have ever fielded.

Again we entered our older junior teams and Ladies into the competitions of the Granville & Districts Soccer Football Association whilst our mini, younger junior and senior teams continued their affiliation with the New South Wales Churches Football Association. These decisions on team placement were again taken in consultation with team management and the club executive and will be reviewed on an annual basis in light of the changing circumstances of both our club and the Associations concerned. We would like to thank both these Associations for their support and the competition they have provided. The decision of the NSWCFA this season to grade the under 10s & 11s and 13s & 14s worked well for all teams allowing less one sided games. It certainly worked well for us as these 4 teams all contested the grand finals. The 15s girls, keen to play on Saturdays, played in the NSWCFA and were allowed to participate in the U14 competition which supported their introduction to football. Both GMUSC and NSWCFA are committed to getting a stand alone 16s girls comp next season. One issue we had this season was that with the expansion in playing numbers we had two teams field numerous underage players, which affected their results. The U9 Red were mostly under 8 and the U11 were mostly under 10. If a similar player number expansion happens next year, and we hope it does, the intention will be to have all players playing in their correct age, results will then improve and player enjoyment will also.

We had one team finish on top of the competition in 2015. The U14s were premiers and went on to win the grand final. This is a very pleasing result for a team that has had some years of struggle in the past. The U10 Red & U12 Red teams also won their grand finals whilst the U9 Whites, U11s and U13s were runners up. The sight of two grand finals including two McCredie teams and then competing in two other finals at Marconi Stadium was certainly a pleasing sight for our club.

Our senior teams couldn’t repeat last year’s heroics but the Premier Reserves, Challenge Cup firsts and AAL 3s all qualified for semi finals. At the six a side the 9 Whites, 12 Reds and 16 Girls (Squirrels) were champions whilst the 6 Red, 7 Red and 16 Girls (Possums) were all runners up. At the Kings Sevens tournament our U13s were runners up. Zone representative matches for the younger players took place again in 2015 with our zone (South Zone) winning all age groups. We had numerous representatives – congratulations to Zain Ali, Ali Fahme, Owen Thai, Fouad Ayoub, Dylan Lu, Yasmin Hasani, Sebastian Kerr, Samuel Kidane, Mustafa Fahme, Fraz Maqsoodi, Abuk Yaac, Makuac Kuol, Christian Frangie, Aaran Batth, Abdul Agha, Mary Ning, Mounir Hadid, Jayden Daily, Geetansh Kaushal, John Luke El Rahi, Qais Sungkar, Nedim Fazlic, Andrew Ibraheem, Jakob Kaihea, Ahmed Ekdawy and Jasper Carr on their selection. In 2015 the National Titles for 14s, 16s, 18s, 16s Girls, 23s and AAM were hosted by NSWCFA and McCredie was represented in the NSW City sides by Jakob Kaihea, Jasper Carr & Ahmed Ekdawy (14s), Ali Hawchar (16s), Sulafa Ageeb & Sharlene Muru-Tucker (16s Girls), William Wark, Greg Wark - coach (18s), Darren Warren, Darren McGuire - caoch (23s) and Megan Warwick, Peter Warwick & Dorothy Warwick – managers (AAL). Hamad, Sarah McGuire, Clementine Kayungu, Christine Sing, Chloe Hildred, Tahlia Hildred and Ajok Dor all assisted the South Australian side. Meanwhile three former McCredie juniors continued to play professional football in 2015 – Mohammed Rahimi in Singapore, Martin Lo with the Wanderers and Tony Lo in college football in the USA. In December 2014 we were lucky enough to be named the Hyundai Goals for Grassroots, club for January. This meant that we received $1000 from Hyundai plus another $1000 for every goal that Wanderers scored when they played in January against Melbourne. In December our club was filmed training and the U8s, 9s and 11s put in a spirited effort, with some players and coaches being interviewed and a clip being televised. Coaches, managers and their kids also received free tickets to the Wanderers match – we cheered extra loud when we scored - $1000 for us! We were interviewed on ground, shown on the big screen, televised and the players had an opportunity to meet with ex McCredie and Wanderers player – Martin Lo at half time. All this was a great thrill.

Thanks to the efforts of Darren and Marie McGuire we were again able to give players training jerseys in 2015. This is not an easy task for the McGuires and their dedication to the kids in the club is much appreciated. The club’s executive was elected in November and I would like to thank all the committee, Peter, Dorothy, Carolynne, Ian, Hendrika, Peter, Phil and Robert for the support and work they did during the year. Remember – no one is paid for their service to your club. Don’t forget that the registration days are the first two Saturdays in February at Granville Park between 9am and 11am. All registrations must be accompanied by full fees. If everybody brings a friend we will double our team numbers! See you all in 2016.

Guildford McCredie Uniting Soccer Club – 2015 Annual Report

This season McCredie were represented in the NSWCFA U14s, 16s, 16 Girls, 18s, 23s and AAL (and we captained the 18s). The All Age Men, 23s and 18s went on to be National Champions and the 14s finished as Runners Up and the 16s, 16 Girls and All Age Ladies all qualified for semi finals. When South Australia looked likely to withdraw from the U16 Girls comp McCredie offered them 7 players and Alexia, Christine, Chloe, Tahlia, Sarah, Ajok and Clementine all enjoyed the experience. Sarah was even named in the All Star team at the end of the comp!

Guildford McCredie Uniting Soccer Club – 2015 Annual Report

The U6 red team was evenly made up of experienced and new players. It was nice to see the players learn from each other.

Danielle is a tactical player. She changes her play when she sees a weakness in the team. Her fast reflexes saved some crucial goals.

Gethyn is the youngest and cutest player of the team. (I'm a little bit biased). As the season progressed, so, did his attention during the game.

Izaac is a tenacious and fearless defender. He loves to run and chase balls down.

Jackson was the most dependable (and sickness-free) player of the team. He showed commitment to the team and improved his dribbling, blocking, and defending skills.

Lamar was a pleasure to have around, she always tried hard and had a smile in her face. Our 'Princess' had to leave a few weeks before the end. We wish Lamar and her family all the best with their new life in Lebanon.

It was hard to believe that this was Malik's first season. He is an all-rounder right from the start. He defended, scored, and was always at the right place at the right time.

Matthew matured a lot during the season. He paid attention and listened to instructions. His willingness to participate was reinforced by positive encouragement.

Nour is a scoring machine. He averaged 5 goals per game. His fancy footwork confounded the opposition and his accuracy is impressive.

Sunday was like a mustang on the field. He is fast and likes to take control (sometimes too much). His bright smile and enthusiasm made training fun.

A BIG thank you to our coaches, Sarah and Elise, who generously shared their skills, knowledge, time, patience, and themselves with us.

Thank you parents for your assistance and commitment. Without this, the team would not function. It was a privilege every week to watch the boys and girls improve their ball skills, increase in confidence, socially mature, and have fun.

Guildford McCredie Uniting Soccer Club – 2015 Annual Report

The under 6 White team were very lucky this year they had two coaches. Robert French who has been a coach for many years with the club and Taufa Kivalu. Together, combined there was lots of years of experience as well as new techniques to be learnt. Both Robert and Taufa showed kindness to the players. They bought out the best in each player. They were patient and willing to give each child the time that they deserved. They shared humour and lots and lots of laughter with the kids! Our under 6's had a great season, making it all the way to the end of the season, playing every game not having a forfeit. Each week, they proved what great players they are and each week, they proved how to play as a team. We had so many tight games, that they made sure to leave us on edge. However, it usually ended with a win and was always entertaining to watch. Even though many of the players had never played a game of soccer before or kicked a ball by the end of the season they really had improved their skills, we had players ranging from 4.5years to 6 year olds. What a great bunch of kids. The team did get a little disheartened at times but we certainly bounced back. The stability of our side is a key to our success, despite all our bad luck this year and some disappointing results, we still played the best we could. Under 6 White had an amazing season! There was fantastic soccer, constant improvement, some extraordinary wins, and great displays of talent and effort. At the start of the season, it was a new experience for many of the players. But right from the start, the talent of some of the players was clearly seen. And this was evidenced by some spectacular wins that carried through the whole season. We had a few too many wet weather cancellations but all in all we did have a full season of soccer. As the season progressed, the players did too. The style of play at the start of the season was very unstructured. But over the season with the help of our great coach Robert, the players developed in their understanding of the game on many levels: defending and attacking, and how they’re different, passing, positioning, reading the flow of the game. About half way through the season, we particularly worked on having forwards, midfielders and backs, and how each position was different. It was hard for them at first and took a few weeks to sink in. But when they started to get it, it was so beautiful to watch them play a more structured and intelligent game! Their understanding of passing and teamwork also grew – they weren’t tackling each other or getting in each other’s way as much, and even passing to each other times! It was so exciting to see the kids learning and growing in their understanding and skills. The skill and effort of the players individually was also a delight to watch! The talent of some of the players was very clear from the start, like Jeremiah's and Mikhail's dribbling up to the goal to shoot, or Alex's strong kick, with either foot, and all round ability from defending to attacking. But equally exciting to watch was the development of the players, so that their personal styles and strengths started to shine more and more over the season. Thank you to all the parents for bringing their children to every game and putting up with some last minute changes. Alexander Azar: Joined us from the start and played every game that he could even when he was ill. Fantastic kicking skills, he was great at defence and also upfront. He always showed good energy and effort.

Guildford McCredie Uniting Soccer Club – 2015 Annual Report

Charbel Nakhoul: Improved heaps over the season, in both defending and attacking. He also had some shining moments like scoring 2 goals in one game and proving to be one of our strongest and boldest goal keepers - throwing himself at the attackers, and saving heaps of goals. Deon Kumar: Deon was always keen to get into the game, but started off quite unsure; until he scored his first goal! You should have seen his face light up! It was like a turbo engine was turned on - he grew heaps in enthusiasm and energy, and was keen to learn and get into the action anywhere he could. He was great in any position and always took well to the directions from the coach. John Barakat: Was a great and solid team player, but soon into the season, he proved particularly strong in defence. He stopped attackers getting through, chased down loose balls, cleared balls to safety with a big, strong kick, and was a fierce goalkeeper whenever we needed one! Finally towards the end of the season John got his first goal and it was excellent, he was so happy and so were we. Jonah Botros: Jonah was ill for the first few games in the season and was unable to play for a while. But once he started back into the season he was never scared to get involved, and showed great effort at any position he tried. We had the pleasure of Jonah joining us and it was great to have him and great to see him grow in confidence and understanding of the game. Jeremiah Elkadi: Receives the Coach’s Award for enthusiasm, good improvement, all-round effort☺ . It was especially great to watch Jeremiah shine during his scoring streaks, or when playing roaming goal-keeper when we only had 4 players (which happened often!). Elias Hakimi: Elias joined us late in the season but was a very keen player and made and effort when ever he played. He was great as a goal keeper and did us very proud. Muhammed Aeliya: He was one of our youngest players and it took him while to get the hang of things. But with Robert he did slowly start to warm up to everyone. At just 4.5 years he was always keen to give it a go. Hopefully he will be back next year. Mikahil Khan: Mikhail was our top scorer and managed to score a goal at every game he played. What a terrific effort. He receives the top player award and well done. He always gave 100% when he played and was happy at any position but was top as striker and managed to win us some tight games with some great goals. In one game he managed to score a total of 8 goals. Wow! Well done Thank you to all and hope to see you in 2016. Ebru Lutfullahoglu Manager

Under 7 Red had a fantastic soccer season in 2015. It was a fresh new team, with good and growing skill, a great record of wins, and some top quality soccer. The team this year was made up of a mix of old players and new. Six of the players played together in the Under 6 Red team – Adam, Adhar, Keeyan, Patrick, Talitha and Wek. Two of our new players had played together in the Under 6 White team last year – Joseph and Omar. Our other two new players were playing their first competition soccer season – Emily and Idin. It was a great team combination – learning, playing, and having fun together. It was especially exciting seeing our players grow and develop this year! Teamwork, passing, ball skills (like dribbling, passing, headers, throw-ins, etc), holding and playing positions (defence, midfield, and attack) – we improved in all of these areas. Our players grew in their understanding and playing of the game. Although our oppositions were bigger and stronger than last year, our players rose to the challenge. Here are some individual highlights: Adam had a good season of growing and developing over-all as a player, especially understanding and playing different positions, dribbling and keeping possession of the ball, and reading the play. Adhar continued developing and growing as a player, and played another strong season, even though the opposition was better and stronger this year, and he was the youngest player in the team (young enough to play in Under 6!). His forte continued to be in attack - dribbling through opposition and shooting. Emily: being her first time playing soccer, Emily started off with limited experience, but grew fantastically over the season in understanding, ability and confidence. Emily showed great courage and energy in trying every position, and by the end of the season was able to keep pace with the game in both attack and defence. Well done, Emily! Idin showed great all-round effort and ability in his first season of competition soccer. Idin was very enthusiastic and willing to learn, and was one of our most committed and cooperative players. It was great to seek Idin grow and develop in skill, ability and confidence over the season.

Guildford McCredie Uniting Soccer Club – 2015 Annual Report

Joseph was a great team player; he has good natural ability as well as a cooperative, teachable and hard-working attitude that helped him grow and develop in every aspect of his soccer – understanding and reading the game, skill and ability, playing different positions, and teamwork. Well done Joey! Keeyan; young enough to play in Under 6, but strong enough to play in Under 7, Keeyan was especially strong as a defender – intercepting and tackling opponents and clearing the ball with a strong kick up the field. Keeyan also grew and developed in other areas, including scoring his first goal! Omar was full of energy and enthusiasm, which he always used in the game – sometimes not in the right position, or getting into someone else’s way, but also to score goals, which he loved doing! Omar grew in his ability and teamwork, and had some shining moments, including scoring a great hat-trick! Patrick was an enthusiastic, energetic, and strong player, and had a great season. He improved all-round but especially with dribbling, attacking and shooting, teamwork and passing. Some great highlights for Patrick, besides scoring goals, was a few hat-tricks, and a great cross leading to a goal! Talitha grew and improved overall as a player – in skill, ability, strength and confidence. She was particularly strong on reading the play and moving with it, which meant she often intercepted and defended well, and then dribbled and kicked our team back into attack. Wek is one of the strongest, all-round players of the team; he was always reliable in defence, as well as strong in mid-field and attack. Wek had a great season, scoring goals consistently, playing well in all positions, and overall being a co-operative and supportive team player. Great work Wek! With this great team line-up, we had a strong season, winning almost every game, and almost taking out the Six-a-side championship as well, except that the team was worn out by the final and lost by only one goal. Our team wouldn’t have been what it was, however, without the great work Emma did as manager, keeping everyone informed and up-to-date, and making sure things ran smoothly. Thanks heaps Emma! For me as coach, it was another very enjoyable and rewarding season. Commitment and attendance were positives, with most of our players regularly at training, and many weeks having a full team on Saturday. In particular, all our players ran in the lapathon, which was fantastic! Good commitment guys! And the parents are a great team too, always supporting me and each other, and helping the kids to learn well, play well, and have fun! Overall, it’s been a really encouraging season as we’ve watched our kids learn, grow, win games and have a lot of fun playing good soccer! Andy Chung, Coach.

Guildford McCredie Uniting Soccer Club – 2015 Annual Report

Overall it was a successful season for the 7 Whites, especially considering the season was disrupted by wet weather and the usual winter virus’ hitting the team with force. The team consisted of some pros moving up from the 6s; Ryan, Badih, Andrew and Dut, and new faces playing soccer for he first time; Mark, Laura, Bol, Fateh and Sione. It was amazing to watch this group of kids gel and work together to become a strong team in the competition. The first game of the season was a real eye-opener to how tough the season could have been. 7 Whites had a big loss! This only made the kids determined to work on their skills, strategies and teamwork, and they went on to be successful for the majority of the season, with many wins. Dut was the team’s highest goal scorer of the season. He is an all rounder with his speed, making it difficult for anyone to keep up with him, and as a defender turning the ball around to his team’s advantage. Dut worked especially well with Sione. They depended on each other to get the ball from the opposition, to take it all the way to the goal. Sione, an excellent player within his own right, used his strength and skilful footwork throughout the season. His absence due to illness was felt at the end of the season. Ryan has speed and a good kick on him. Ryan also worked the field in defence, on the attack and scoring for the team. Mark was new to the club but showed dedication and loyalty to his team. He rarely missed training, and this showed in his game. He played especially well in defence, and stepped in as goalie when needed. Badih is another valuable and reliable member of the team. He is small but he was always where the action was taking place. He defended, attacked, scored and was also a successful goal keeper. Andrew had some strength in his kicks helping the team on a number of occasions, creating a good amount of distance between the ball and the opposition’s goal area. To see the growth in confidence in Bol was truly amazing. He went from being unsure about his potential to getting into the action of the game and going into any position that was asked of him. His development in the game was evident in both his commitment to training and playing in the competition. Fateh another new member to the club, worked on developing his skills and gained confidence as the season progressed. Finally there is Laura, the only female of the team. She went from being a little frightened of the ball to being confident enough to get in there for the team in the defence position and as a goal keeper. A big thank you to the team coach Mika. It was through her commitment and guidance that these kids had the opportunity to develop into a strong team. Mika worked on the kid’s individual strengths to maximise skills and confidence. Also, thank you to the parents. It was your commitment and dedication in getting the children to training and to the games that made this all possible. I hope that all team members enjoyed their 2015 season of soccer, and continue to play next season and beyond. Mariella – Manager

Guildford McCredie Uniting Soccer Club – 2015 Annual Report

At the start of the season, the team was made up of players from two under seven sides from the previous year and some new players who had registered with the club this season. The team was comprised of the following players; Abu Huraira Hameed, Ali Saad Ekdawy, Ameera Angoang, Exodus Rees, Fayez Fahme, Gerardo Cavasinni, Isaiah John, Lucy Sultana, Moustafa Ajaj, Rhiannyn Griffiths, Simon Elzain, Solomon Williams, Thomas Elzain and Zain Ali. Although the season did not provide results on game day, we were able to witness the beginning of the soccer careers for Rhiannyn Griffiths, Ameera Angoang, Exodus Rees and Abu Huraira Hameed. Special mention goes to Rhiannyn Griffiths who had an outstanding debut this season. Rhiannyn showed enormous courage on the playing field having been hit in the face by the ball three times. Rhiannyn on game day never shied away from the bigger opposition, tackling and chasing all opponents down while her skills improved through the year. The hardest thing with Rhiannyn was trying to get her rugby moves out of her game. On training days Rhiannyn was always there and showed commitment to training no matter what drills were being performed and never complained. Zain Ali receives the player of the year reward for his outstanding performances throughout the year. Zain played many positions in the backline ensuring that many attacking moves by the opposition were stopped before they caused more angst for the coach, manager and team. Zain was also rewarded for his efforts by being picked in the under 8 zone teams. Exodus Rees was also another player in his debut year that showed that he will become a player to watch in the future. Exodus has a great ability to kick a ball with great force and a great distance while being a player that plays with emotion. The rest of the players tried their best on game day. Injuries and illness to players also played havoc during the season, as well as not having enough players due to parents not bringing their children to the game. As the manager I found it very disappointing that some parents did not bring their children to the game on game day or have the courtesy to inform the manager of their child’s unavailability. Obviously the soccer season would not happen if it were not for the committee members, the coaches, the managers, the parents and most of all the children that play this beautiful game. To Marco Cavasinni, who has provided his time to coach and guide the boys and girls throughout the season, a huge thank you, to you. To the parents that supported the club by turning up every week, I thank you for the support that you showed to your children and to the coach and I. Peter Sultana Manager

It was a long season but we enjoyed every game we played. The under 9 Red was almost an all fresh team, only 3 of our kids played last year, our goalie Yasmin, the defending rock Kareem & the striking fox Elisa. The rest of the players have never been in a team before & that was a big challenge for all but gosh what a team we had by the end of the season. We had players who are as little as 7 years old & they left a big impact on our team. Players like Yusuf, Montel & Benjamin. Some of our players were new to the game but they made learning football look easy, they were the spine of the team like Mujtaba M, Saad, Zacheria, Mujtaba A and Malachi. We were not lucky enough to win this year but we have learnt team work and hard work. A big thank you to all the parents who gave up their Wednesday night for training & Saturday morning for the games. Thank you all for being a part of this wonderful team. A special thank you to our team manager Michelle, she gladly accepted the role when she was asked & made it hers, got involved with the kids & was loved by the kids & their families, always smiling and encouraging the players. This year we started building your football skills, next season you will notice how much you have learnt & you will learn more in the future. I lost my voice many times this year but I am ready to do it again. It was a pleasure & honour to be your coach for season 2015, you kids have taught me what never give up really means, how to keep a head up high and learn from experience. Football is a beautiful game, regardless of the score you still enjoyed running, kicking the ball & playing the game that we all love, so thank you all for the lesson and the beautiful time which I will always remember.

2015 six-a-side champions and competition runners up. Thank you Parents I'd firstly like to start with acknowledging all the parents who have put in the incredible effort this year to help support their children in making it to the Wednesday training sessions (+ some Sunday's) and of course the all important Saturday games. I'm sure our kids will look back at their younger years and remember their soccer fondly because of your efforts. It takes commitment and dedication and I as a parent understand all too well it takes a lot of planning and coordination to keep that commitment, so our kids can enjoy the game ever so much more. As we now wind down on what has been another successful year, it was an absolute pleasure working with such a cooperative and organised group of parents. So thank you for making it that little bit easier. To my little mighty champions I thoroughly enjoyed coaching these 12 amazing kids: Ali Fahme - can play all over the park and has the ability to lift his team mates to play at another level because of his commitment in each and every game as he always gives 110%. It was sad to see Ali and his family move overseas just before the finals. But it was great to have had him in the team until that time and helping the team get to the finals. Anthony Germanos - has improved tremendously through the year and best of all his confidence in himself also improved significantly which was great to see. Anthony was one of those kids who just made it easier for me as a coach. If I asked Anthony to do something he would just get on with the job and do it. No hassle. Keep that wonderful attitude Anthony and keep training to improve your ball handling. Daniel Kvesic - we missed Daniel for a big chunk in the early part of the season due to a broken arm. But he came back and slotted right into the team and giving us that boost in defence and midfield at the back end of the season and this definitely helped us play more strongly all the way to the Grand Final. For the off-season and next year, fitness and improving his speed with the ball are key development areas. Dylan Lu - never missed a game and training session (partly because I take him to both (-:). But you couldn't keep him away even when he didn't feel 100% he would not let his team mates down by giving his all on the field. Dylan loves his soccer, LOVES IT! As a Southpaw that loves to run, he's found his home on the left wing, but needs to get himself into better positions and become more aware of the game play. Fouad Ayoub - definitely has the strikers mentality and gets himself into good positions and opportunities to score and wants to be involved in the action. Has contributed very strongly for the team on the goal sheet and really enjoys the competition on Saturdays. Training days however are struggles for Fouad and his fitness lets him down in the game. Jack Spina - Jack is a lot of fun to have in the team. He's Mr confident and enjoys commentating on most things. His game has improved through the year and is getting better with his ball control and now getting much more involved in the play of the ball. I also think Jacks confidence in his own game has improved and you can see this on the field. Keep practicing those driving kicks and running with the ball at pace and you'll be ready to kick some more balls next year!

Guildford McCredie Uniting Soccer Club – 2015 Annual Report

Joey Farah - one of our top goal scorers, when Joey is on fire nothing can stop him. He has great long running strides and has a knack for getting shots off at goal. He has arguably one of the stronger kicks in the team and is our corners specialist. However his radar accuracy lets him down at times when he rushes his kicks at goal and not looking up. The other aspect is getting back to help his team and continuing to play hard off the ball. All things that can be worked on. Johnathan Chakoush - first year in the team and has fitted right in. Jono trains hard and I can see that he is working hard to improve his game and he is definitely doing that. In the game Jono is running hard after the ball and is not afraid to get involved in the scrimmage. Not bad for being the first year playing competitive soccer. I have no doubt Johnathan's game will keep improving as he continues with his training. Joshua Depares - our little 'pocket rocket'. Wind him up and let him go. On so many occasions when Josh bursts down the sidelines the opposition can't keep up. He's a little ball of energy and has played strongly in defence and midfield for the team through the season and only narrowly missed out on some goal opportunities through the year where he got into some great scoring opportunities to only just narrowly miss the spot. Josh also had a stint on the sidelines this year due to injury and I'm confident his game will keep improving next year. Owen Thai - the stand out story this season has been the improvement in Owen's game. In his second season with the club, Owen has taken to soccer with drive and dedication to improving his game which has been easily evidenced in both training and on game day. Playing as a right wing and central defender Owen is tenacious and always gives his all. He has a self drive that is not seen often in children at this age and this has served him well. Owen is a pleasure to coach as he too is a no fuss kind of kid and gets on with the task you ask of him. Keep up the effort and passion for the game. Robert Sorojevic - like Jono, this is Roberts first year in soccer and what greater way to start than to be part of a Grand final team. I think Robert has taken a lot of enjoyment out of being part of this fun group of kids who just like playing soccer. Robert's game has also improved after a slow start to the season, he's getting more involved in the plays and he possess a powerful driving right boot which he should take maximum advantage of. Robert will develop greater confidence in himself and his game with more practice and continued game time. Something he'll get an opportunity to continue to do next year. Sebastian Kerr - easily our top goalie and one of the better goalies in the competition. Sebastian is not afraid of throwing his body at the ball and he has easily the best drop kick I've seen from any of the goalies this year. Bazzie's kick gives the team a massive advantage as they more often than not clear the half way mark allowing the team to push forward. In our conversations through the season Sebastian knows what areas of his game and team work I wanted him to improve on and to his credit he has with better passing to his team mates not just when he's in trouble and the positive attitude to playing in goals. Especially with the grand final. Well done Sebastian. Our Season It was a wonderful start to the season. At the half way mark through the season our kids didn't lose a single game. Then the competition got harder and teams stepped up and so our kids had to as well and stepped up they did. Taking it all the way to the Grand Final. Our semi against Hills Green was a nail biter as we managed to narrowly sneak past our opposition in a game that could have gone either way. But credit to our kids who gave it their all which was enough to get them to the big dance. The Grand final was no exception. After jumping to an early lead and holding on, at one stage I thought we might be able to get there. But the Lidcombe Blues to their credit (who were the unbeaten side during the whole regular season) poured on the attack after attack until we couldn't hold them out any longer with 5 minutes to full time, as they levelled the score 1-1. It was heading for overtime until within the final minute remaining, a loose ball manages to pop out in the middle of a scrimmage and finds its way into the back of the net. Although going down 1-2 in another nail biter finish. Our little champions can hold their heads up high and be super proud of their wonderful achievements through the year in getting to the Grand Final. I'm most proud of the team spirit the kids have shown and demonstrated in training and on game day. As I always say to the kids, that's TEAMWORK!!! And finally and most importantly, seeing our kids’ enjoyment of each other's company in the game and the fun they have is what makes this wonderful to be a part of, as a coach and of course as a parent. Let’s hope 2016 is just as successful. Mathew Lu

Guildford McCredie Uniting Soccer Club – 2015 Annual Report

We had an amazing season, fantastic games, constant improvement and displays of talent and efforts. We won so many games we also won the GRAND FINAL!! At the start of the season, we welcomed few new players who soon became crucial for our team. And as the season progressed, the players did too, learning how to play together as a team. We were officially considered one of the most challenging teams in our grade. Hearing that from other component teams’ coaches was truly a delight. Over the season, the players developed in their understanding of the game on many levels. Positioning, defending and attacking. It was a must for our players to learn how to read the flow of the game and predict the opponent’s moves. We were playing on a bigger field which required a higher level of fitness and endurance. A point that we still need to work on. The skill and effort of the players individually was also a delight to watch. The talent of some of the players was very clear from the start and their personal styles and strengths was shining more and more. Baran Tas - Only managed to join us once for the game. Unfortunately Baran is feeling unwell but he is truly missed by all the team members. We wish him a fast recovery. Anthony Chiha - even though he had to leave half way through the season it was great to have him with us. He showed good energy and effort when he was there. Abuk Yaac - our only girl, our little pocket rocket. Abuk’s self-confidence was shown from the very first day. She might look a bit shy but no one can mess with her on the field. She gave her best at every game. She completely fulfilled her position as centre defensive midfielder Austin Spears was a great and solid player and soon into the season he proved particularly strong in defence and goal keeping. He was a fierce goalkeeper whenever we needed one and the Grand final game was Austin’s glory moment with his outstanding performance along the game. Austin proudly deserves “The Coach’s Award” for his admirable effort in protecting our goal. Armin Dupovac - a very reliable player. Playing mainly in midfield, Armin’s understanding of the game improved so much as well as his skills. It is always great to have him with us. Baris Ozkartal - was never scared to get involved and showed great effort at any position he tried. Left wing, defender or goal keeper, Baris trusted his strong figure more and used it. Unfortunately he got injured and missed the Grand Final but we’re sure we will have him with us next year. Charbel Chehab - was keen to get in to the game, as a write wing he started off quiet unsure until he scored his first goal. His kicks got stronger and he showed more confidence in his skills Fraz Maqsoudi - was a new player with us this year. He played mainly as a midfielder. His kicking and ball skills improved as the season progressed and was a vital cog in our team Matthew Youssef is back! After a full year of recovery Matthew came back with more consistency and determination. He’s an effective goal scorer, his ability to dispossess an opponent and get the ball forward again often shut-down opposition raids. Makuac Kuol - first year ever playing soccer. Makuac is a very good boy and a silent achiever. He lined up the majority of the goals this year. It was a pleasure having Makuac in our team. Keep it up. Mohammed Mattar - a genuine goal scorer. He has been developing his passing /crossing skills this year which along with his foot speed made him a handful in attack. Mustafa Elbizri - Great foot speed enabled him to chase down many opposition breaks and snuff them out. The same foot speed was also useful bringing the ball up field to a forward position and attack. Samuel Kidane - another quiet achiever putting in a good solid effort throughout the season. Samuel is very alert and keen to create chances for other team mates as well as himself to score. Victor Doueihi - played as central defender. The leader of our back line. He shut-down many opposition raids and with his strong kick returns he gets us going forward again. A good solid reliable defender. Woody Tannous - played mainly as defender and also a goal keeper. His kicks and ball skills improved as the season progressed. Came back just on time to enjoy the win of the Grand Final.

Youssef Maldini - showed plenty of skills on the field with improved skills in working with the whole team. Youssef had a good year of soccer. Great effort by each and every player. They are real soccer stars. Not only they made it to the finals, they also enjoyed every single moment of the season and that’s the true win. Thank you Coach Bilal, Thank you parents for your commitment to the team. I am sure that everyone will be returning again next year with more to give, Vera Manager

The Under 11’s enjoyed a very successful year. We welcomed many new faces to the team, some who have never played the

game before. The more experienced players provided guidance to the newcomers, allowing them to easily settle in and be

comfortable in what they were doing. As a team, we had some great results during the regular season including several

convincing wins. However, we did have a few lapses in concentration throughout the year which led to draws or losses which we

did not deserve. The finals series is when we stepped up our game and played as a team making it all the way to the grand final.

The grand final itself ended in heartbreak but still proud of everyone for their efforts. Losing in a penalty shootout is cruel. Once

again, great season. I hope to see you all next year where we can take our games to the next level.

Anthony - had a great year, always putting in 110% every week. Anthony’s reliable left foot really helped the team especially on the left hand side of the midfield. He was able to create many chances for his team via his crossing and passing skills. He was also able to help out in defense when needed. In the Final, Anthony had a brilliant game helping his team both in attack and defense. His great communication skills really helped the team when came to organisation and understanding your position. Mikalya would have to be the most improved player in the team, especially as the season progressed. She understood her position and knew what her job was to do for the team. As a manager and coach, it makes your life a lot easier if a player sticks to their position. She was able to make many crucial tackles and interceptions which helped the overall teams performances. She is always switched on at training, willing to learn and this is evident in the improvements she made throughout the year. Ali was another versatile player who was able to play in different key roles in the team when needed. He was always at training wanting to improve his game, which is all a coach can ask for. He is extremely committed to the team and wanting the team to succeed. A great example of this is Ali showing up to grand final, even though he was wearing an arm sling. A great effort to support his team highlighting his character. Kuach was a very solid centre back who saved the team on many occasions. Kuach built a great paring with Adam in the heart of defense resulting in one of the best records defensively in the league. His best asset was his massive kick, which would turn defence into offense very quickly. Not many people enjoy defending every week, but Kuach would have no complaints and stuck to his role perfectly. Watching him progress throughout the year was great. Adam - This is a player who knows his role in the team, and puts in 110% effort every week. On numerous occasions, Adam’s covering defense and reliability to act as the last man in defence helped ensure opponents found it very difficult to score. His

famous slide tackle and non-stop engine frustrated many oppositions. This also gave him the freedom to be able to push up forward on the field and help create chances for his team. However, what impressed me the most about Adam this year was not his excellent technical skills, but his ability to communicate with his team. Adam was able to motivate the team. This was extremely important for us this year as we had so many new faces who are still learning the game. This guy is a machine. Yacub is a very versatile player who generally played in the middle of the park, but was able to help out in defense and also attack. Yacub's tremendous fitness allowed him to be everywhere on a pitch. His positive energy boosted the team when we were tired and at times got us over the line. A tremendous performance playing the final while he was sick really sums up what a team player Yacub is. Really well played. Izabella is another player who understands her role in the team and her position. Izabella was a monster in defense, not letting anything get through her. Her physical nature intimidated most players and she is never afraid to go into a tackle. Izabella is always committed, coming to all training sessions and willing to improve her game. It was unfortunate that she did have to go overseas for the final few games and she was definitely missed in the grand final. But the team would not have achieved what they did without her performances at the beginning of the year. Well done. Achai A fun and educational season for Achai who came into the team never having played before. She was also much younger than the majority of the team. She did manage to show that she was still a willing and capable team member who was ready to commit into a challenge and help the team push for a position higher up the table. Her progress throughout the season was evident through her growing knowledge of her position in the back being able to stand in the places she needed to be standing in whilst also listening to the advice from the sideline. Well done, Achai. Gregory is an important member of our team for the last couple of season. Greg is such a funny kid and helps the team on the field just as much as off it. He scored a couple vital goals and saved a few down the other end in what proved to be a very versatile season for him. He, being one of the more experienced members of the team, showed the other children that soccer is a game where experience is important and helped ease the others into the squad. His willingness to jump into the tackle like a rugby player and his excellent dribbling skills were important in our run towards the grand final. Well done Greg. Abdul - What a joy it is to have a player like Abdul in your team. At times the opposition and they could only stand there and scratch their heads watching him dazzle with his on the ball dribbling. A real talent packed with a great attitude to learn and always willing to listen. At times throughout the season Abdul’s head dropped when he missed a goal or messed up a dribble. It was amazing to see how much expectation he put on himself sometimes. But he always, within minutes, picked himself up and delivered the goods. Abdul was a joy to watch and at his best was the best in the league no doubt. Aaran - Aaran was consistently dominant, and pivotal to our team’s success this season. When Aaran played well, the entire team fed off his positivity and banged in goals. The best thing about Aaran though isn’t his ball skills, which are great, or his shots, which are awesome, or his fitness, which is unrivalled, but his amazingly unselfish attitude. Aaran is a coach’s dream player as he not only is a great player, but is also a great kid and easy to teach. He listened to instructions and followed them to the best of his ability which is all a coach can ask for. Love your work, Aaran. Duan - This kid knows how to razzle. Constantly asking me for number 11 as he wanted to share the same number as his hero, Neymar. You could tell that Duan had been watching him as the tricks he would pull out in training, and even in games, were blowing peoples minds. He was definitely a solid centre back or defensive mid and really helped dominate teams through his massive kicks and cool dribbling skills from the back. I’m glad to have seen such improvement as that’s what coaches enjoy most. Great work, Duan. Mary - What’s to say about this girl? She’s faster than most, she’s silkier than most, she’s better than most. I would constantly hear teams telling their best players to mark Mary as she was such a threat . Astounding work by Mary in a position she’d never played which was centre back. She was always first to the ball. If the ball went by her she easily caught up to the striker and cleared the danger. It was good to have someone so sure at the back and never giving anyone any second thoughts. Keep the great work up! Khan - What an interesting season Khan had! Wow, he came from not knowing the rules of the games. Isn’t that weird to say now? He constantly worked each week to achieve the knowledge, the fitness and the love of the game I’m sure he has now. Khan was our goalkeeper this season and had many exciting moments in which he sometimes singlehandedly saved games for us. He even had moments where he ran onto the field and chased the ball down like a pit bull. Khan was definitely one of my favourite kids this season due to his willingness to learn, he’s an amazing kid! In the grand final where he even saved us the game and made it to penalty shootouts. I’m really proud of you, Khan. Always remember to love the game. Coach- Adem Stevens Manager- Amarvir Batth

A great bunch of boys consumed with a great season. Most of the team made the representatives team as well with 7 of our players on the under 12s and two on the under 11s. Now that's awesome and proves we have a great team. We also won the grand final with a game so worth cheering for. Each player contributed to the season equally with enthusiasm for soccer and learning all year round with a great coach . Hamid always had the boys under control and he put in an enormous effort into teaching the boys excellent soccer skills. They improved week after week. We were by far they were the fittest boys in the competition and were never too tired to play a full game . Christian Frangie is an excellent soccer player who never ceased to amaze us with awesome goals every week. Thyson Huynh is a new player who brought with him a great effort for the team . He is a strong player who played his midfield position very well. Joel Carter has improved so much especially in goalkeeping. He is never scared to throw himself at the ball to stop it from going in the net. He can also play many other positions such as defender and midfield. Krish is a new player and our other goalkeeper. He is very feisty and could stop any ball coming at him. Only a handful of balls went through against him the whole season. He's also fantastic on the field and showed great soccer skills whether in defence or attack. JohnLuke El-Rahi loves playing soccer and never gets tired of playing . He plays midfield most of the time and hardly lets a ball go past him . He also put in many brilliant goals throughout the season sometimes using his left foot, he scored a brilliant goal in the semifinals to get us through to the grandfinal. Deng has been playing for the club for three years . He comes ready every week to play the position given but always seems to end up at the fron. He has improved so much and we love having him part of the team. Ryan mainly plays defender . He has massive kicks and can send the ball to the front effortlessly. He knows his position and the team so well . He's a strong player who contributed so much this season. Aakrist was a new player who seems to love the game. He got along very well with his teammates and either played defender or midfield he held his position very well and ran tirelessly all over the field with obvious improvement every week. Jude had a fun time confusing us with his twin Angus . I gave them special names according to their shoes but we still seemed to mistake them. But it's no mistake they're both fantastic players with great enthusiasm. Jude (Orange boots) and Angus (Bad Ass) mainly played midfield ,their kicks as well as their attacking were as strong as each other . They equally played very well and contributed a lot of effort to the team and of course got along with everyone. Mustapha is our youngest player . He's been playing for the club about four years. He played midfield and also scored many awesome goals throughout the season unfortunately he had to leave us to start a new life overseas and we wish him all the best. Mounir has been playing for about five years and is one of our fastest players. He either played midfield or striker and always

amazed us especially on the grandfinal , he scored our winning goal to make us the champions . He is very fast on the field and contributes 100% every week. He too scored some awesome goals throughout the season. Elias is one of our cheekiest players, he too plays his position so well and showed enormous improvement throughout the season . He mainly played midfield which he held very well. He also scored some fantastic goals during the season. Yilmaz has improved so much, he loves his soccer and contributed great team work throughout the Season . He mainly played midfield and also loves being involved in the game. On behalf of all the parents we had a fantastic season. Thank you boys, well done for an awesome season ,you are truly champions.

Hope to see you all next year.

There were two under 12 teams this year. Some of the players had been playing together for the last three years but this year they were split into two teams. The under 12 white team was coached by Stephen Durbidge.

Stephen is a very easy-going, respectful coach who had lots of patients with the under 12 white players. He was very fair to all the players making sure they all had a go playing different positions. He taught the players how to play different positions and how to defend in those positions. He made sure everyone had enough playing time on the field. All the players felt comfortable with him. He was a good coach to them.

The under 12 white players were Peter, Christopher, Jayden, Geetansh, Daniel, Andre, Glen, William, Ruban, James, Garang, Guy, Malou and Hamza. They were a good team of players who enjoyed playing soccer. They were always eager at training and during the games. They gained fitness as well as how to play the game. They listened to Stephen at training and were happy to absorb his instructions and techniques of how to play the game. When they played the game matches they played with all their heart and gave everything they know about soccer. They never gave up whether they won a game or lost a game. They learnt to play and respect each other's difference. They were very respectful on the field and off. The players built a special bond between each other both on the field and off the field.

I would like to thank the parents for their patience and support. The parents are the best supporters to their children first and then the club. Thank you to the parents for helping out and for encouraging your children to be good sportsman. Hope to see you all next year.

It was another great season for the under 13s. The team were runners up in the grand final and also runners up in the six a side. Throughout the whole season we struggled to have a full team, most game’s we had no reserves and we never had more than 11 players. However, the team showed that they were more than capable of playing and winning without a full team .Overall we finished 2nd on the ladder. Well done team!! Firstly, I would like to thank the parents for bringing the boys to training and every Saturday game. Without your support we wouldn’t have a team. I would also like to thank the parents for washing the team’s jerseys every week. Players Andrew ibraheem- Andrew is one of our best defenders and is one of the reasons points are not scored against us. He frequently attends training sessions and puts in 100% effort in all matches played. As the team captain, he is always leading the boys on and off the field. One of the highlights of Andrew’s performance would be when we were up 6 nil at one of the games and Andrew wanted to play striker after begging the coach, he finally decided get the defenders upfront. This allowed Andrew to prove he was not just a defender, after many attempts he finally scored. Qais- Qais is one of the best players I’ve seen, he is very skilful and athletic that has helped his performance within the team. He plays striker and at times, mid fielder. He also, plays his role as a leader. Qais was injured towards the end of the season and was therefore unable to participate during the semi and grand finale. However, he was cheering on the side line supporting his teammates. Charles- Which ever position you would give Charles he always played at his best. His passing and control of the ball has improved, as well as his confidence in the game. He attended every game with his mother to support him and the team. Antoinette (our cheerleader and our number one fan) made sure Charles and the team were wide awake every Saturday with her chanting Nedim- Nedim is one of our main goal scorers with a goal scored at every game. He played striker and at times mid fielder. He came to every game and put in 100% and never let us down with his incredible talent. Even on our grand final day he had tonsillitis and still managed to play and play the full game. Christopher- Chris has become such an incredible player; his position throughout the season was either mid fielder or defence and just never disappointed us with his performance. He had so much control of the ball throughout the season and was able to score a goal this year.

Joey- Joey was also our goal scorer, as soon as joey had the ball we knew something special would come out of it. He was always willing to take on the defenders by himself. He was one the best players in the team. Ferdi- With his dad has his biggest supporter, every week ferdi just brought more to the table, his speed and contribution to the game has improved so much more than it was last year. He as well, was at every game and every training session. Also just like to add- ferdis mum was more than happy taking the jerseys almost ever week- would like to say thank you for your contribution. Jeffrey- His second year of soccer and Jeffrey has improved so much with his control of the ball and his passing. Jeffrey either played right, left or centre mid, either way, played where he was supposed to. And played well. Jayden-Jayden also played right, left or centre mid. It was his first year playing for the club and playing soccer. He was always eager to play and was willing to play any position you would give him. We also gave Jayden an opportunity to play striker at one of our games; he had many attempts but just never got it through. However, like I said he was always eager and happy to play Andrew- Andrew has come a long way; he is also plays in defence. Andrew has improved his soccer skills so much. He is always the one to the ball and never gives up. Might I add, most talkative in our team, he always had a story or just had something to say. But we wouldn’t have Andrew any other way Salvator- Salvator played our goalie for most of the games. At the beginning, he was so terrified, he said to me I don’t want to play goalie because I will let all the goals in and we would lose. What he didn’t know is how good of a goalie he was. He hardly let any in which definitely contributed towards the team success. Rosemary Farah Manager

What an amazing year! Undefeated Champions! I don’t know soccer all that well, but numbers are easy: 10 wins, 2 draws, 54 Goals scored and a tiny tally of 5 goals against. I’m especially proud of the boys in that the 54 goals scored are from 12 of the 13 players. (We are cheering you on for next season, Mika!) Our under 13’s team from 2014 of Ahmad, Alex Jasper, Mika, Nicholas, Peter & Ryan were joined this year as under 14s with Ashley, Bilal, Fred, Jakob, Samuel & William. We now had a team that ranged in age of 12 -14 years and varying skills and heights, a new coach in Darren Warren, and it worked. Not every week, but as a team, the boys became fitter, better at playing together and listening to Darren as the season progressed. Our newer players brought so much to the team: William was not only our exceptional goal keeper for the year, but made his presence felt whenever he was given a run. Samuel and Ashley scored and ran everywhere required of them; Fred and Bilal – we could not have worked as a team without you. Jakob was strong in the backs and as a striker, and not much got past him at all. For the boys who I’ve known for a few years now; what a pleasure to see you maturing in your game, skills and into the young men you are becoming. Ahmad & Ryan – our main goal scorers. We loved to see you run and pursue a goal. Ryan your goal header will be my favourite forever! Alex Nicholas and Peter : the skills you are developing and your determination on the field. Jasper, our Captain – those big strong kicks of yours that cleared the ball everytime, leading the team and your sportsmanship . And to Mika, who had a terrific grand final game – you listened to your coach and never complained when you were subbed, you have made your parents so very proud of you both. (yes, I can say that!) A personal thank you to the parents, siblings, friends and cousins of the team who turned up every week. There was never a match where the boys weren’t supported by a troupe of people. Rides to and from games were negotiated and delivered. Text messages were responded to! Calls were always answered. A big thank you to the weekly volunteers for washing the team jerseys. As a manager, I never felt burdened as I was always helped out by others week after week. Special attention must be given to the boys’ coach, Darren Warren. He totally got them. The team responded so well to his instruction at training and on and off the field. Darren coached them with good humour, channelled his inner commando (drop and give me 20), with patience (there are 13 teenage boys!) and encouraged them to try for Reps and Nationals. Under his coaching 5 of the team made it to Reps (Ahmad, Jakob, Jasper, Nicholas & Sam) and three made the Nationals Under 14 team (Ahmad, Jakob

and Jasper). Darren didn’t just teach them how to win, but how to win graciously. Thank you for teaching the boys your “mercy rule.” Win well, but not crush your opposition and remember to thank those around you. As a parent, it was impressive to see Darren instruct this in words and actions. Our boys are at an impressionable age and you have taught them a lesson they can carry outside the game. Guildford McCredie Uniting Soccer Club – 2015 Annual Report

We started the year with 4 boys new to soccer, 3 players returning to the team after some time away, 1 new player from another club and 7 players who have played at McCredie for years. After two years of making semi finals in Division 2, we were going to be tested this season. No one was more surprised and delighted than myself when we started like a train winning games each week and dominating our opponents. The season was a bit stop start though, with rain, Sunday and night catchups, washed out trainings and a couple of injuries. As the season sputtered on, a couple of the stronger sides tested us and we had some off days but overall we were as good as any team in the comp and hit the semis with confidence. Our success was built around the solid foundation that the regular players provided and particularly our strength in defence. Daniel, Joel, Aiden and Jesse are rock solid full backs and Salem in goal was a revelation. The more saves he pulled off, the more cheers he got, the more he wanted to be in goals the next week. Rusheel had his best season ever, and when attacking he created real problems for all defences. Thomas shared the central midfield duties. Thomas’ passing game and defensive work rate was a very fortuitous discovery at the midpoint of the season. Up front Ali and Jake made a mess of most teams. Some of Ali’s goals bordered on the freakish and his ability to finish the 1:1 was the difference in many games as our opponents squandered opportunities and Ali rarely did. Matty, Mahdi, Tai, Serge and Beshoye ensured that we maintained our strength right to the edges of the park. A special mention to Tai, Aiden, Mahdi and Beshoye in their first year of football- well done. It’s a tough gig entering a team who has played together for years into a very competitive 2nd division competition. But you all did your best, didn’t grumble and developed your games. We hit the semi against Greystanes, a side who had never beaten us and who we had trounced 7 – 0 in round 1. In the second match they were 1-0 up but we hit back with three goals (1 the strike of the year) but they had sent a warning signal. Unfortunately we were not at our best in the semi and for a team that scored most of their chances – in the semi we missed 4 in the last 15 minutes. The game was there for the taking, but the better team won on the day, and unfortunately it wasn’t us. Thanks to Tim for his team management and to the loyal parents who are at the games each week. See you all next year. Greg

These girls are pioneers in our game. A few played summer competition last year and wanted to play in a winter competition. For various reasons they couldn’t play in the regular Girls’ competition, which is played on Sundays. A little bit of thinking outside of the square, and with a huge thank-you to Greg Wark and the NSWCFA, an all-girl team was given the go-ahead to be entered into the regular U14s competition, playing against mostly boys. We just needed to get a full team. And then the fun would begin. For the first training session we just tried a little bit of a kick around. OMG!!! What had I gotten myself into? It was horrible. It was so bad, I was crying so much I had to laugh. We even had one girl who never came back. Does anyone remember Hasti? Oh well, she missed out on a great year. You know, as a coach, when you ask your players what position do you want to play, and everyone says ‘striker’? What do you do when the answer is ‘what are the positions’? I should have run for the hills at this point. Anyway, we trained. We did laps, we laughed. We ran, we laughed. We practiced throw-ins, we laughed, we practiced our touch, we laughed, and we practiced kicking, we laughed. I think you get the picture. We spent a lot of time laughing. With no real trial matches to learn positions and teamwork, let alone the basic skills of kicking a ball, the first few competition games were tough. In our first 4 games we conceded 33 goals!! Can you imagine, 15 teenage girls in a bad mood? There was swearing, there was crying, there was accusations. We had a revolt on our hands, and there was talk from a number of players of not wanting to play anymore. But, true to the character of this team, they re-grouped and showed they would not give up. The team realised that the rest of year was going to be tough, but they all had decided to give it their best while having as much fun as they could. And didn’t they impress! After conceding 33 goals in the first 4 games, we ‘only’ conceded 26 in the next 10 games. And we scored 5!!! I look back on our year and smile. These girls have improved so much from the first day that they ran on the field, it is hard to believe. They now look like a team of soccer players. They play like a team of soccer players. They support each other like a team of soccer players. And they are passionate like a team of soccer players. But much more than that, through their understanding and acceptance of what it takes to be part of a team, they have each shown amazing personal growth. And what did this team do for others? Their fighting spirit was contagious. This was the best supported team in the competition. Wherever they played, this team earned the respect of anybody that was watching. We would like to thank all of the parents and friends that came along to support us (we even had opposition parents’ supporting us!). A huge thank-you to the parent’s that offered transport. To Mary, our Manager, thank-you for organising game day for us. Not only were most of the girls new to this, Fatmeh was also thrown in to the lions’ den this year as our Co-Coach. Fatmeh showed amazing leadership skills and character to help form and mould these girls into not only a team, but a group of young women with the confidence to give their best in all situations. Fatmeh earned the respect of the team, and was an integral part of their success. To all of the team, wow, what a blast of a season! You are all awesome. I truly thank each and every one of you for the hugely rewarding season and I hope that you will all play again next year. Darren McGuire

It doesn’t matter where this team finishes, I cannot be disappointed in their performances. I cannot say that they lack heart , or dedication, or take the wrong attitude into the game. What I can say, is that I coach 15 amazing young men that make me proud to be associated with them. I feel very lucky to have been involved with this team, individually they show maturity, and as a team they show respect, both towards me as their coach and towards each other as equal parts of our team. How did we go during the year? At the beginning of the year, I believed we were a competitive team, would make it into the final series and would have a good chance at taking out the grand final. Even throughout the year, I believed that we were one of the best teams in the competition. What happened? Obvious. We didn’t win enough games. We finished equal 5th. Sort of ok, but not when 5th is on 18 points and 4th is on 31. 6 drawn games in a season is too many. And losing against sides below you on the ladder is a coach killer. Unfortunately quantity of possession didn’t give us a win in our games. Without a regular goalkeeper or striker, we built our game plan on team support. As a team we defended, as a team we attacked. As the year rolled on, we looked better and better as a team each game. Usually, we worked hard to support each other, we controlled possession, and the flow of the game was in our favour. At times, we played a very attractive game of soccer, we just didn’t have the knockout punches in the attacking 3rd of the field. This is where it hurt, we defended well enough, as a team we supported and played well enough, we just didn’t convert the possession and opportunities into enough goals. Parents, thank-you for giving your kids the chance to play the game they love. I know it means a lot to them, not just playing the game, but interacting with a good bunch of guys. Unfortunately, we don’t get a lot of support, so a big thank-you to the parents that helped out with transport, we couldn’t make it to the games without you. To Anita, thank-you, thank-you, thank-you. On game day, I am all over the place, always running team combinations and playing scenarios through my head, and seeming a little unaware of what needs to be done. I am very fortunate that Anita is there to manage the team and make sure I am doing my job properly. Thank-you again. I’ve said it before, and I will say it again. This is a great bunch of guys. I love the way you approached your soccer, I love the way you played the game, and I loved the way you supported each other as a team. You have taken me on a great journey over the last few years and I have learnt many things from each one of you. It is a pleasure be your coach. Darren McGuire Coach

In 2015 we were able to enter teams in Premier League, Premier Reserves, Challenge Cup and Challenge 35s (Over 35s) Despite a lack of silverware it was still a good year for the All Age men’s teams. Due to last year’s success we were promoted to Premier League. From previous experience we knew it was going to be a difficult season as there is a significant jump in the quality of the opposition. In order for us to be competitive we needed to have a second all age squad. In the pre-season we had a major push to setup a second squad and we were fortunate that this was well received. We got in a number of new faces but we also managed to recruit a large number of ex-players. This enabled us to establish the basis for two all age men’s squads which we hope to continue for future years. The Premier League squad's 1st grade team were competitive but faded for the second half of the season due to injuries, suspensions, format change from interchange to substitution and due to some results which didn't go our way. This was also true of the Premier Leagues reserve grade team who finished equal first on points but were unfortunate to finish second on goal difference. This was quite an achievement as we were struggling for numbers throughout the season. The Challenge Cup 1st grade team managed to finish 4th and only lost their semi-final in extra time. The effort and determination they showed in that match will see them successful next year. The Challenge Cup reserve grade team competed in the over 35 competition. There are a number of very competitive over 35 teams and despite the challenges the team was still in the running to make semis right up to the end of the season. Both squads owe their success to a large number of players who committed their time to not only their team but to also helping out the other team in their squad. We do not specify a player to just one team within a squad. We are a squad and each team’s success is dependent on everyone in the squad helping out where needed. We even had a few players who played in both squads when required and were very grateful for their efforts. Special thanks to Moises and Christian for their dedication, time and efforts throughout the season. There is a lot that goes on behind the scenes and without their commitment we would struggle. Finally, we would like to thank everyone involved for an enjoyable season and hope that they can come back next year so we can grow on what we established this year.

The season started with some nerves, after a triumphant premiership last year and a promotion to Division 3 for this season. We welcomed back Megan who was a McCredie junior and Sarah R from her mat leave, and two new players – Natasha and Laura H. who fitted in really well. Unfortunately we did lose four players, but congratulate Mika on her selection to play NSW Premier League with Parramatta Melita. Unlike last year we certainly weren’t dominating games from the start of the year, but neither were we losing, and when we did lose, the game was invariably close. In the second half of the year we certainly did dominate some games as we powered towards the semi finals and some teams faded. The top side belted us one afternoon when everybody was away or injured but that certainly didn’t dampen our enthusiasm (after all – half our team wasn’t there to see it!) Despite injuries and players being overseas we seemingly continued unaffected which was an awesome effort from the team. Natasha’s injury was very unfortunate but it was Taufa’s in the major semifinal which turned the difficult into the virtually impossible. Despite numerous interruptions Genell and Laura Herbert combined well up front in what is a developing partnership. We did keep winning games when they weren’t both there though which was very pleasing for the coach. In midfield Nyanut and Taufa dominated and had Natasha and T not been cruelly injured, this combination may well have taken us all the way. It was fantastic having Sarah Rebenko back with us and her feistiness never fails to have effect. Sarah Dubois, Rana and Megan round out the midfield, with Megan bagging some great goals. Both Benks and Megan had a go at some different positions in 2015 from what they had been used to which I hope they enjoyed. Our backs changed a bit this year but they remained very solid with Laura Burden, Elise and Sarah Irving having outstanding seasons. Mo and Ania provide the experienced heads in defence but to be honest nobody is tougher than Sarah ‘Cement’ Irving. Hendrika kept really well again this season. In a good side, keepers can go a while not being involved but when things slip up in front Hendrika invariably pulls off something brilliant (and is just as tough as Irving). Again it was a delight to be involved with the team this season. To see how far the team has come from 2012 in such a short time is indeed a privilege. Thanks girls and our loyal supporters. See you next year. Greg
