Outline of University of Fukui Student Exchange Program University of Fukui Student Exchange Program (the name has changed from AY 2017) accepts international students (hereafter students or applicants, where appropriate) for a period of 6 months or 12 months while they are registered as regular students at one of the universities that have student exchange agreements with the University of Fukui. At the University of Fukui, the students will study and earn credits or will receive instruction and guidance on research in order to pursue their specialized fields and to deepen their understanding about Japan. The students will not earn degrees in this program and will not be able to graduate or earn a degree from the home university while they are enrolled in the program. The particular recruitment accepts applications for the following programs:

Program A Program B Program Outline

This one-year program is for students who do not have Japanese proficiency and who will take courses or receive research instruction in English. Undergraduate students Take Common Courses (Japanese language and Japanese Affairs), and Specialized Courses in the following six fields: 1) culture and society; 2) mechanical and system engineering; 3) electrical, electronic and computer engineering; 4) architecture and civil engineering; 5) materials science and biotechnology; and 6) applied physics. Graduate students Receive research instruction in the fields of education or engineering in English. No credit given.

Admission time: October 2017

Duration: 6 months (1 semester) or 12 months (2 semesters)

Language requirement: TOEFL PBT 500 / iBT 61 or its equivalent

Program Outline Program B is for students who already have high proficiency in Japanese. Undergraduate and graduate students | For Auditing Take regular courses with Japanese students and register 10-class hour/week per semester. Graduate students | For Research Enroll as Research Students and conduct research without taking courses. Research Students cannot earn credit.

Admission time: October 2017

Duration: 6 months (1 semester) or 12 months (2 semesters)

Language requirement: Level N2 or above of Japanese Language Proficiency Test

3. Scholarship from the Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO) Scholarships under the Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO) Student Exchange Support Program for the above programs are not available this year. We will inform you when there is any additional information about this matter.

4. Tuition Students from partner universities will be exempted from paying both a matriculation fee and tuition at the University of Fukui under the student exchange agreement. The exemption is, however, limited to the number of students stated in the agreement. Students who are accepted outside of the agreement will be exempted from paying a matriculation fee, but must pay tuition as follows:

5. Accommodations The University of Fukui has two student dormitories, as below. Since the number of dormitory rooms is limited, there is no guarantee that a room will be provided for all students wishing to reside in a dormitory. The applicants will be notified whether they will be provided with a dormitory room or not at the same time as the notification of acceptance. If students wish to use the Internet in their own room, either in a dormitory or a private apartment, they must complete a contract by themselves.

3) Personal Accident Insurance for Students Pursuing Education and Research (PAS) [Mandatory]

This simulation, calculated based on the minimum expenses provided above, shows that the total cost for enrollment duration of 12 months requires at least 1,100,000JPY when included with overseas travel insurance. If a student resides in a private apartment or needs to pay tuitions, the total cost would be much higher. Please understand that this simulation is just an example, since living expenses vary according to each individual’s lifestyle. <Amount of money to bring when coming to Japan (from arrival to the 10th day)> There are many cases in Japan when you cannot use your credit card in daily life, including fees you pay for UF. Please bring a sufficient amount of cash when coming to Japan. Below is a list of estimated expenses you may need to pay until you open your bank account to receive money transfers from your home country. Please use this estimate for your calculation:

University of Fukui Student Exchange Program A is a one-year program to accept students from universities that have a student exchange agreement with UF. 指導体制

Each student will have an academic supervisor. These supervisors and instructors at the International Center will give the students guidance on their college life. Students will also have a student tutor who will support their academic as well as personal life in Fukui. それぞれの学生に指導教員が付きます。これらの指導教員と国際センターの教員が、履修科目の選択指導を行います。また、留学生には学生チューターが一人付き、福井大学での勉学や生活についてサポートします。

EVALUATION, CREDITS & DIPLOMA

成績評価・単位互換・修了証書

For Special Auditing Student with Credit, one copy (two or more, if a student requests in advance) of a student’s

transcript will be sent directly to the office in his/her home institution which is responsible for student exchange programs at the beginning of April for students enrolled for 1 semester and at the beginning of October 2018 for students enrolled for 2 semesters. A Certificate of Completion will also be issued for students who have been enrolled for 2 semesters and earned the required number of credits or more according to the curriculum. 特別聴講学生には単位修得証明書が発行され、留学期間が 1 学期間であれば 2018 年 4 月上旬に、留学期間が 2 学期間であれば

2018 年 10 月上旬に在籍大学宛てに 1 通（事前の申込みにより 2 通以上可）送付されます。また 1 年間福井大学に在学し、カリキ

ュラムに準じて修了要件単位数以上取得した者には、交換留学プログラム（A コース）修了書が授与されます。 Special Research Students will be provided with a Report of Research Supervision issued by the dean of a graduate

school after they complete the one-year program. 特別研究学生においては、本学の当該研究科長から「Report of Research Supervision」を発行します。

Students’ home institution has responsibility for recognizing and transferring credits that students earn at UF.

このプログラムで取得した単位の認定および互換については、派遣元大学の判断に委ねられています。

CURRICULUM FOR SPECIAL AUDITING STUDENT WITH CREDIT

特別聴講学生向けカリキュラム

Special Auditing Students with Credit take courses from both common and specialized course groups. Those who

enroll at the University of Fukui for 2 semesters and earn the required number of credits in each group at the minimum will receive the Certificate of Completion upon completion of the program. 特別聴講学生は、共通科目群と専門科目群両方の科目を受講します。2学期間在籍しそれぞれ所定の修了要件単位数を取得した特

別聴講学生にはプログラム修了時にプログラム修了証書が発行されます。

Student’s academic performance will be evaluated in each course. Credits will be given if he/she passes the course. 受講した科目ごとに成績評価が行われ、合格すると単位が認定されます。

Students must register 10-class hour worth of courses per semester to maintain the College Student visa status. 留学の在留資格を満たすため、各学期とも授業の聴講時間が合計 10 時間以上になるように科目を受講してください。

Students may also take regular courses that are offered for degree students of the University of Fukui. Those courses are taught in Japanese language and a student needs to have a sufficient level of Japanese language proficiency. The credits earned by taking UF regular courses will be counted in the Specialized Course Group. 十分な日本語能力があれば、福井大学正規課程の学生向けに開講している日本語による科目を受講することもできます。この科目

で取得した単位は、専門科目の単位とすることができます。

If a student’s supervisor permits, credits of one or more courses in Common Course Group that the student earned beyond the below requirement may be counted in the culture and society (CS) field in the Specialized Course Group. 指導教員が認めた場合、必修単位を超えて取得した共通科目群の科目の単位を、文化・社会系の専門科目の単位とすることができます。

Japanese 4, or Japanese 5. At the beginning of the program, students will take a placement test. According to the score, they will be placed in one of the five classes. These classes will be held 2 to 4 times every week and students will earn 2 to 4 credits by taking the class for one semester.

Special research students conduct their research on a specific topic under the English guidance of their supervisor.

The topic of the research is decided based on their Plan for Research in the Form 1A. 特別研究学生は指導教員の英語による指導のもとで研究を行い、研究成果をまとめます。研究分野や内容は、応募書類『Form 1A』の「Plan for Research」をもとに決定されます。

They can also take Japanese language courses*7. 日本語の授業

*7を受けることも可能です。

Special research students cannot earn credits. 単位の取得は出来ません。

Only students who will be enrolled at the UF for 2 semesters can apply for the program for special research students. 2 学期間在籍する学生のみ特別研究学生向けプログラムに応募できます。
