FLEXIBLE LEARNING

THAT FITS YOUR BUSY LIFE

UWM ONLINE Maybe you have an unpredictable work schedule. Maybe you don’t have time to take classes until after your kids are in bed. Or maybe you just prefer to save on gas money and knock out your college credits from the convenience of your kitchen table. Whatever your situation, you can take advantage of UWM’s robust — and growing — online education program. You’ll learn from the same high-quality faculty who teach our in-person classes, and you’ll graduate with the same respected UWM degree. Many of our

majors, minors and certificates can be completed entirely online.

Highly rated online programs, a degree from a reputable university, more than 700 online courses to choose from, and 29 online degrees and certificates from undergraduate to doctoral levels. But that’s not all. As part of UWM Online, you’ll have access to:

• Convenient learning built around your busy schedule

• Frequent, personalized faculty feedback on your academic performance

WE’RE NOT JUST A 9-TO-5 KIND OF PLACE. NO MATTER WHAT YOUR SCHEDULE, WE’VE GOT OPTIONS:

Page 5: Guidebook

FLEXIBLE LEARNING• Academic advising services that can

help you choose the best online courses based on your career interests and previous academic experience

• A dedicated, call-in help center; online tutoring and writing support; and outstanding electronic library resources (including specialized support for online students)

Think you’d prefer getting to know your classmates and professor face to face? We offer hybrid classes, too, which allow you to blend online and in-person instruction.

For more information visit online.uwm.edu.

EVENING DEGREE PROGRAM UWM offers many degree programs that can be completed entirely in the evening. eveningdegree.uwm.edu

SARAH, Middleton, Wis. History, OnlineCurrently: Las Tumbas, Costa Rica

“I attended a different UW school until after my junior year, when I got an offer to work in Costa Rica. After a few years living abroad, I decided I wanted to finish my degree but I wasn’t ready to move back to the United States. I love Costa Rica. I have a job, friends and a home here. So, I started looking for a program that would allow me to do my last year online and I found UW Milwaukee. UWM offered the whole history degree online. Going back to school online was one of the best choices I have ever made. Professors have made lessons accessible by providing Powerpoints, lectures, video clips and discussion forums, which make me feel like I am sitting in the classroom with classmates again. The program is great, and it turns out that online learning is fun and interactive.”

“You have to get involved in college, no matter what type of student you are. The more engaged you are there the more engaged you will be with the people and the community. I became a Peer Mentor and a student senator, because I love being socially engaged and representing my school. It can be harder for nontraditional students; I have two part-time jobs on and off campus, and I am a caregiver, but finding time to be immersed in the college culture is very important to me also. When you look at the end goal, you know it is worth it.”

PANTHER TRACKS PROGRAMOur partnership with Milwaukee Area Technical College allows you to complete your liberal arts and sciences courses at a lower price point and then transfer to UWM to finish up your bachelor’s degree — if you meet the program’s requirements, your admission to UWM is guaranteed.

We even have a full-time staff member dedicated to facilitating a successful transfer from MATC to UWM who holds regular office hours at UWM and MATC’s main campus. matc.edu/student/currentstudent/credittransfer/panther_tracks.cfm

LIBERAL TRANSFER CREDIT ACCEPTANCE POLICIESThe following programs have especially generous transfer credit policies, meaning

more of your former credits or professional experience could count toward a UWM degree.

• Information Science and Technology: ist.uwm.edu

• Community Engagement & Education (awards academic credit for previous professional experience): ceed.uwm.edu

MENTORS FOR TRANSFER STUDENTSYou’ll have your own peer mentor, a current UWM student employee who can answer any questions related to your transition to UWM. “ When I separated from the Navy, I knew I wanted to go to school to become an Obstetric Sonographer. UWM’s program was more affordable than others and offered several resources geared toward the success of veterans. UWM takes pride in taking care of their military and veteran students, and the Military and Veterans Resource Center (MAVRC) has been especially helpful, they go above and beyond. Even though it was all a little overwhelming at first, I’ve been able to get answers to all my questions and I’ve taken advantage of the many resources available such as the PASS office for tutoring, and the Writing Center for help with papers and reports. My experience here has really influenced my life for the better by providing me all I need to achieve my goals.”

2015-16 ESTIMATED ANNUAL TUITION & FEES:

UWM: A GOOD VALUE AND AN EVEN BETTER INVESTMENT We realize that the cost of college is the No. 1 concern for many adult students. If you’re wondering whether a four-year university is still worth the investment, consider this:

A worker with a bachelor’s degree can expect to earn about $1 million more than a high school graduate over a 40-year career, according to a report by the U.S. Census Bureau. And now is the perfect time to join UWM.

Wisconsin residents: $9,452Minnesota residents: $13,082MSEP states1: $13,498

Non-Resident: $19,626Estimated Room & Meals: $10,030

There are a number of room and meal plans. The amount listed reflects an average on-campus double room and the Level 2 meal plan.

Estimated books & other class materials: $800

*Online courses typically carry an online course fee; see uwm.edu/academics/online.cfm **Students taking courses entirely online pay the off-campus tuition rate.

It is vitally important that students know that there is a great deal of money available in scholarships. A number of free scholarship websites can be found at scholarships.uwm.edu.

Financial aid and scholarships can make the UWM experience even more affordable, and nearly 80 percent of our students receive aid. UWM also offers a variety of scholarships, including the Life Impact Program for students with dependent children and scholarships just for transfer students.

1 UWM participates in Midwest Student Exchange Program (MSEP). Students from Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Michigan, Missouri, Nebraska and North Dakota may qualify for reduced nonresident tuition. Minnesota is also a participant, however, students from this state are required to apply for the Minnesota reciprocity program. www.ohe.state.mn.us
