ALUMNI INTERFACE
The session on advertising was addressed by Mr. Manish Arora. It started
on a very interactive note where Mr. Arora asked all the participants what
advertising is. Many volunteered to frame a good definition and with the
help of Mr. Arora students did come up with an interesting and easy one,
which was “Advertisement is just communication,” and “creating an
image of a product in the minds of consumers through various channels”.
He then introduced the students to the Media of Advertisements through
the participation of the audience the students discussed some common
media such as television, radio , hoardings, Facebook, newspapers,
cinema hall etc. and then the students were introduced to a technical
term of advertising called ambient advertising which is advertisement on
the floor mostly seen in shopping malls. He also helped the students
understand that advertisements are not restricted to commercial
advertisements people see it from the products displayed on shelves of
stores to radio spots. He highlighted that when we listen to RJ’s on radio,
talking about brands those are called radio spots. It was very interesting
to know how strategically newspapers display print advertisements. In
the end, the students understood what the theory of Integrated Marketing
Communication is in a nutshell.
The session wouldn’t have ended on a better note, with Mr. Arora
sharing his experiences with advertising industry, “It is amazing to work
with an industry where you get a chance to work with different people and
understand consumer behaviour and frame an advertisement which
people best connect to.”
