Junior School Playground Upgrade The long-awaited upgrade to the asphalt play area on Guardian Angels’ Campus is scheduled to be undertaken in the next two weeks. There will be some disruption to eating and playing areas whilst the work is being completed, but the final product should be well worth the wait. Graphic Lines, the company undertaking the work, estimate the job will take approximately four days. When finished, the playground will be a much more engaging space for students. Exciting times! Year Level Planning Over the next couple of weeks all class teachers will be released from class with other members of year level teams to enter student progress data and to plan for ongoing teaching and learning for Term 4. This is a vital opportunity for teachers to collaborate with colleagues to provide engaging learning opportunities for all students to maximize learning progress. Father’s Day Stalls Our P&F will once again be holding a Father’s Day Stall next week on each campus to allow students to purchase something special for Dad for Father’s Day. All gifts are $6. The stall will operate on Guardian Angels’ Campus for students in Prep – Year 2, and Year 4 on Thursday 31 August, and on Mt Carmel Campus for students in Years 3, 5 and 6 on Friday 1 September. (The Year 4 classes will be on an excursion on Friday 1 September, hence the change in their date. See attachment for more information. Dance Cart Concert The Dance Cart concert for students in Years 3-6 will take place on Friday 15 September, commencing at 1:40pm in the shed. A list of costume requirements for each year level is attached to this week’s newsletter. Parents are warmly invited to join in the celebrations. Have a great week everyone. Dawn Morrissey

Virtue The virtue of the week is prayerfulness. Prayerfulness can be practised in many ways.
Prayer is talking to God in silence or out loud. Prayerfulness is living in a way which shows that you are in the presence of God. It is listening and receiving God’s guidance. We are practising prayerfulness, when we: Take time every day to pray and reflect Talk to God as we would to a really good friend Share our thoughts, hopes, needs and fears in
prayer Trust, listen and watch for God’s answer Take action with trust and Have an attitude of gratitude Reconciliation
Next Wednesday 30 August at 6pm many children at Guardian Angels’ School will receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation from Father John Spiteri and many other priests for the first time. These children have been
preparing to receive this Sacrament for many weeks. Please keep these children and their families in your prayers. Prayer
Blessings for the coming week, Kind regards Debbie Young

Instrumental Music Programme 2018 We have a wonderful opportunity available to us at Guardian Angels’, to establish an Instrumental Music Programme involving weekly small group lessons and a concert band. This is for students who are currently in Years 3, 4 and 5. Initially the instruments available to learn and help foster a concert band are flute, clarinet, alto saxophone, trumpet, trombone and percussion. When the programme grows in the coming years, there will be opportunity for students to advance to larger instruments such as the bass clarinet, tenor saxophone, euphonium and bass guitar. Benefits of Instrumental Music Band Programmes Participation in Instrumental Music Programmes and Band, gives children an opportunity for positive growth and development of the mind, body and spirit. Music learning supports all other learning by being a very stimulating, integrated activity. There is some very good neuroscience research that shows children involved in instrumental music programmes have larger growth in neural activity, as more of the brain is used through the cognitive processes of sound discrimination, fine motor skills, language skills and spatial-temporal skills (Dr Eric Rassmusen, 2017). In addition to the academic benefits, music instruction through band allows children opportunities for self-expression, engagement with art and the world, and making music for pleasure. Participating in band develops strong discipline and work ethic, understanding quality (not quantity), respecting authority, the value of achievement and what is learned along the way, and inner peace and security from making music to personal satisfaction (Dr Tim Lautzenheiser, 2015). Expression of Interest forms have been sent home for your perusal. If your child is interested in participating, please return the form to the office by Friday September 1. Yours in music, Cassandra Muir Music Specialist
