GSL Class Advanced Offshore Patrol Vessel successor of saryu class for indian coast guard

introductionThe GSL Class Advanced Offshore Patrol Vessel is a series of Six ships being built by Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL), Vasco for the Indian Coast Guard.The length of the GSL class vessels is 105m and have maximum beam of 13 meters with a displacement of 2,400 tonnes. It is armed with a 30 mm CRN 91 Naval Gun and have a helicopter deck. The Contract to Build Six Vessels for Indian Coast Guard was signed on 9 May 2012.The first steel cutting of the series construction was done on 14 May 2012. Thereafter keel-laying of the first of the GSL class offshore patrol vessels was commendced on 28 September 2012.

detailsGoa Shipyard Ltd (GSL) will achieve yet another milestone in its quest for self-reliance in sophisticated shipbuilding with the launch of the largest new generation offshore patrol vessel (OPV) on November 26 at Goa. Designed in-house and built by GSL for the Indian Coast Guard, the vessel will be launched by Rachna Thapliyal, president Tatrakshika, in company of Vice Admiral Anurag G Thapliyal, DGICG, GSL's chairman and managing director Rear Admiral Shekhar Mital, and other senior dignitaries from government, Navy and Coast Guard.

featuresThis 105m state-of-the-art OPV is first of the series of six OPVs being built by GSL for ICG. The OPV will help meet ICG's increasing requirement for undertaking policing and patrolling of the Indian exclusive economic zone. The vessel is also capable of other functions like search and escue operations, pollution control and external fire-fighting. This Vessel will also be deployed for ocean surveillance and for monitoring sea lanes of communication. The ship is capable of supporting embarkation and operation of the indigenously designed advanced light helicopter.
