ThisComprehensiveMonitoringReportdocumentstheimplementationactivity,monitoring,andemissionsreductionsofGS1321StoveCapitalGuatemalaImprovedStoveandWaterPurificationProject(“theProject”)duringtheIssuance3MonitoringPeriodofApril1st,2015toMarch31,2016,includingallsalesofEcofiltrowaterfiltersandEkoEstufaefficientcookstovestoruralhouseholdsinGuatemalafromtheProject’sinceptionthroughtheendofthecurrentmonitoringperiod.ItisdesignedtodeliveralloftherelevantdataanddescriptionsrequiredforcompletereviewandverificationoftheProjectandincludesthefollowingreportsintheirentirety:

• KitchenPerformanceTestReport

• WaterConsumptionFieldTestReport

• WaterQualityTestReport

• NRBLeakageReport

• MonitoringandUsageReport

Ratherthanproducingseparatereportsforeachofthemajorareasofmonitoringandthensummarizingthosereportsinthisdocument,thePPhaselectedtoincludefullreportcontentforallmonitoredparametersinonedocument,therebyreducingunnecessaryduplicationofinformationacrossvariousreportsanddecreasingthelikelihoodoferrorscausedbyreportingdatathatissubjecttochangeduringtheauditprocessandwhichmustbetrackedandeditedacrossmultipledocumentsthrougheachsuccessiveroundofreview.

Similarly,thecollectionandanalysisofdatafromfieldmonitoringhasbeensimplifiedbycombiningrawandanalyzeddataintoaselectfewMicrosoftExcelspreadsheets.Ratherthanpresentingseparatespreadsheetsforeachoftheabovementionedreports(manyofwhichusedatafromtheothersincalculatingkeyparameters)allrequireddataforreviewandverificationhasbeenincludedin2keyspreadsheets:

AswiththeintentoftheComprehensiveMonitoringReport,thisreductionofsourcedocumentssimplifiesthereviewprocessandreducespossibleerrorsbydrawingallrawdataintooneplaceandpullingallanalysisdirectlyfromrawdatasourcesratherthanmanuallytransferringkeydatapointsfromonespreadsheettoanotherwhentheoutputsfromoneanalysisareneededtocompleteanother.

Whereindividualreferencedocumentsorspreadsheetsfromoutsidesourcesorfrompriorissuanceperiodsarerequiredtosupportoutcomespresentedinthisissuance,thosedocumentsarepresentedintheiroriginalform,typicallyasdistinctdocumentsprovidedalongwiththisreportandtheabovekeycurrentissuancespreadsheets.

CONTINUOUSMONITORING

BeginningwithIssuance3,TheParadigmProjectimplementedanewmonitoringprocesscalledContinuousMonitoring.InFebruaryof2015,Paradigmcreatedaconcepttomonitorhouseholdactivitieswithineachofitsprogramscontinuouslythroughouttheyearratherthaninaconcentratedperiodofweekseachyear.AlthoughtheGoldStandard(“GS”)Methodology-TechnologiesandPracticestoDisplaceDecentralizedThermalEnergyConsumption(“TPDDTEC”)-11/04/2011doesnotspecifythemodeofcollectingmonitoringdata(annual,periodicorcontinuous),forthesakeofclarity,ParadigmrequestedanopinionfromGSonthecontinuousmonitoringconceptandreceivedclarificationthatitwasindeedallowedbythemethodologyinanemaildated11Feb2015andsubsequentlyinanfacetofacemeetingbetweenVikashTalyanandNeilBellefeuilleonFriday,June5thinMinneapolis,Minnesota.ContinuousMonitoringfollowstheTPDDTECmethodologyexactly,butseekstomonitorhouseholdsoverthecourseofanentireyear,capturingdatathatismorerepresentativeofactualusagepatternsratherthanrelyingonrespondentstorecallactivitiesthatmayhavehappenedfarinthepast.

ContinuousMonitoringoffersthefollowingbenefits:

• Greaterdepthofconsumerinsight.

• Improveddataaccuracyandconsistency.

• Reduceddisruptionofongoingfieldactivities.

• Reducedriskviareal-timerefinementofactivitiesderivedthroughcontinuousfieldinput.

Specifically,ContinuousMonitoringoffersimproveddataaccuracyandconsistencyovertraditional,short-termmonitoringbyreplacingquestionsthatpreviouslyreliedontherespondent’smemoryofpasteventswithactualobservationandcollectionofthatdatainrealtime.Forinstance,theTPDDTECmethodologyseekstoascertainthenumberofpeopleeachhouseholdcooksforthroughaMonitoringSurvey.GShashistoricallyrequiredthattheProjectProponentincludequestionswithinthemonitoringsurveytodeterminewhetherthenumberofmealscookedorthenumberofpeoplecookedforfluctuatesbetweentheharvest,rainyanddryseasons.Thislogicclearlyassumesmonitoringthatisconductedinaconcentratedperiodoftimeannually(forinstancewithina4-weekperiodthatmayfallinanyoneseason,butisunlikelytoextendoverseveralseasons)asitrequiresthesurveyortoasktherespondenttorecallwhetherthosenumbershavefluctuatedhistorically.Withinthismodeofworking,surveyoutcomesrelyontherespondent’srecollectionofthenumberofpeoplecookedforinseasonsandattimesthatcouldbe6ormoremonthsremoved.Self-reporteddatarelyingontheaccuracyofhumanmemoryisdubiousatbestandthusParadigmsoughtamoreaccuratewaytomonitoritsprograms.

ContinuousMonitoringreducesthepossibilityoferrorbyeliminatingsuchquestionsinfavorofmonitoringhouseholdsacrossallseasonsandallconditions,collectingdatainrealtimethataccuratelyreflectstheactivitiesofthehouseholdinthoseseasons.Assuch,someofthetraditionalseasonally-comparativedatapointsareeliminatedinfavorofdatathathasbeencollectedandaveragedoverthecompleterangeofseasons,circumstancesandhouseholdsrepresentedintheproject.Wheresuchchangeshavebeenimplemented,thedataisnotedasbeingContinuousMonitoringdatathatincorporatesseasonality.

Additionally,surveyssuchasKPTsandWCFTswhicharerequiredtobeconductedbienniallyareincorporatedintotheflowofthecontinuous,annualmonitoringprogram.Doingsoprovidesseveralbenefits:

1. ItincreasesthefrequencyandthereforeaccuracyofthedatabyincorporatingrecentchangesintokeyparametersandcalculationsusedtodetermineVERvolumes.

2. Itdoublesthesamplingframebyachievingtheminimumrequiredsampleannuallyinsteadofbiennially.Hereagain,webelievethisincreasesaccuracyandrobustnessofthedata.

AsContinuousMonitoringwasinitiatedinMonitoringPeriod3,thePPwasnotabletocoverafull12monthsofprojectactivity.However,monitoringtookplaceoverbothdryandwetseasons,aswellasduringharvestandnon-harvestseasons.Whileseasonalrepresentationwasnotfullybalancedwith9%ofsurveysbeingdoneduringharvestand16%duringrainyseason,asreportedbysurveyrespondentsinanswertothequestions,“Isit

TheProjectpromotestheuseofimprovedstovesandwatertreatmenttechnologies,andinturngeneratescarboncreditsinthevoluntarymarketbasedonthegreenhousegasemissionsreduc7onsofthesetechnologies.TheProjectworksthroughlocalorganiza7ons,NGOsanddistributorstoprovidehealthyandefficientcookingtechnologiesandgreateraccesstosafedrinkingwater.Therevenuesfromcarbonfinanceareinvestedintosubsidies,socialmarke7ng,andthedevelopmentofrobustdistribu7onchannelstofurthersupportthegrowthandimpactoftheProject.

PROJECTPARTNERS

• TheParadigmProject(Paradigm)isaninterna7onalsocialenterprisespecializinginthedevelopmentofcleancookstovesprojectsthatleveragecarbonfinanceforscaleandsustainablesupplychaindevelopment.TheParadigmProjecthaspartneredwithStoveCapitalLLCtofinancethedevelopmentofacarbonprograminGuatemalaandtofacilitateprocessesfortrackingandmonitoringoftheproject.

• SocorroMaya(SM)isanon-profitGuatemalanorganiza7onwiththegoalofservingthehumanitarianneedsofthepoor.SocorroMayafocusesonhelpingthe“livingMaya”withtheirgreatestneedsforhealthandwell-being,includingreplacingopencookingfireswithhighlyefficientcookingstovesandintroducingwatertreatmenttechnologiesthatsignificantlyreducewaterbornedisease.SocorroMayadistributestheEkoEstufaandEcofiltrotoGuatemalancommuni7esandprovidestrainingandfollow-uptoensuretechnologiesareusedcorrectly.SocorroMayadistributesprimarilyunderProjectScenario2,whereineveryhouseholdreceivesbothanefficientstoveandawaterfilteraspartofapackage,butwilloccasionallysellfilterswithoutanaccompanyingstoveunderProjectScenario1.

• Ecofiltro(EF)isaGuatemalanbusinesscreatedtomanufactureandmarketthelocallydesignedEcofiltrowaterpurifica7ondevice.Ecofiltrobelievesthatbusinessprac7cesandsustainablemarketscaneffec7velyaddressthelackofaccesstocleandrinkingwaterinGuatemala.EcofiltromanufacturesanddistributestheEcofiltrotechnologyunderProjectScenario1whereinhouseholdsreceiveonlyawaterfilter.EcoFiltroconductsbothbulksalestonon-profitandotherorganiza7onsworkingintargetcommuni7es,anddirectsalestohouseholdsandprovidestrainingandfollow-upthroughbothchannels.

PROJECTTECHNOLOGIES

TheProjectdisseminatescleancookingandsafewatertreatmenttechnologiesthroughoutGuatemala.TheProjectDesignDocument(“PDD”)includesdescrip7onsofthetwotechnologiesincludedintheprojectac7vity,eachofwhichissummarizedbelow.

EkoestufaCleanCookstoveTheEkoEstufawasdesignedbyengineersatCEMEXwiththesupportoflocalpartnerSocorroMayaandinterna7onalimprovedstovedesignexpert,PeterScorfromBurnDesignLab.Thestoveisalargeplancha-stylestovemadeupofcinderblocksandbothtradi7onalandcellularlightweightconcrete.Thethermalefficiencyofthestoveis15.4%andthestovehasapoweroutputof8.95kW.ThestoveislocallyappropriateforallGuatemalancookingneeds,providingbeneficiariesamplespacetocooktor7llasandlargemeals.Thestovehasanes7matedlife7meof10years.

EcofiltroWaterFilterTheEcofiltroismanufacturedlocallybyEcofiltroS.A.Thefilterpurifiesthroughagravity-fedceramicfiltra7onelement.Theceramicelementhasaporoussurfacesizeof0.6to0.3micronsandislinedwithcolloidalsilvertoremovepar7clesanddisinfectthefilteredwater.Thefilterhasaflowrateof1-2litersperhour,amaximumcapacityof20liters,andmeetsdrinkingwaterstandardssetbytheWorldHealthOrganiza7onandCoguanorofGuatemala.Theceramicelementhasalifespanof2to3years.

ThePDDstatesthatthebaselinescenarioincludes“householdbiomassusers”astakeholdergroupthatconsistsofusersofunimprovedstovesoropenfiresfueledwithbiomassandusedfordomes7cpurposes.

PROJECTSCENARIO1(hh-wt):WaterTreatmentOnlyProjectScenario1includesallfilterdistribu7onsthatarenotdisseminatedalongwithanimprovedstovetechnology.Thisprojectscenarioconsistsofhouseholdwatertreatmenttechnologiesthatdisplacetheuseofbiomassforwaterpurifica7on.
